The theme is based on the tale of the flying trunk. The cocktails are delicious. We had the salted caramel star and the so flute. I loved the little pretzel star in the salted caramel. They also serve tapas food. They also serve tapas food. We had the pan fried gnocchi with artichokes, and the buffalo mozzarella with tomatoes. Mmm! The prices are pretty reasonable as well. The cocktails are $17 - $20. The tapas is under $15. We also had a lovely conversation with the owner evi about the design of the place. I'd love to come back again on my way home from workies :) Nothing much more I can add to what Karen F had commented, both Adam & Evi are great hosts. I have only been here for a wine and cocktail so far but this place really adds to the quirky little shops, bakeries and cafes that are popping up on KWR! Fast and friendly service, combined with some unique concoctions and names of cocktails means you will spend most of your time there deciding which cocktail you'll get when you next return. The Elephant Espress is on my list to try next time. If you are like my other half though and think cocktail is for cordial drinkers then never fear - the wine and beer list is for quoffers and swirlers alike. These guys take their booze seriously and I am definitely signing up for one of their monthly "tasting flight masterclasses" in the future.

The food was also average, as many of h the meat tapas did not have much meat, but instead was mainly batter. The staff were very inconsiderate, and took away dishes still being eaten because they looked partially empty. In one of the restaurant's specialty tapas, the deep fried fish bites, the layer of batter was about 1 centimetre thick, leaving only about 5 millimeters of meat in the centre. Additionally, later when the food arrived, the manager of the restaurant said that we should have "pre-ordered" our food, while there was no option to do so while over the phone for booking. Additionally, the restaurant's dessert specialty, churros, also took over an hour from when we requested that they be delivered. The churros' texture was slightly hard to chew through, and the chocolate sauce provided was minimal and extremely sweet. Their specialty, paella, was extremely bad compared to other paella, as the rice was extremely wet, contradictory to the conventional state of paella. The portions of the food were slightly below reasonable for the price paid, especially for the mains, as the prices for their special "feed me" were 28.50 per person, much above the price usually paid for this quality of food. In conclusion, the food at this restaurant was very much under expectations, the price was not reasonable, and the service was terrible. Do not go to this restaurant.

I have high expectations for my tapas and some of the dishes were lacking that punch you get from a great tapas dish. We ordered 6 between the 2 of us and they all came out at the same time so half of them were cold by the time we got to eat them. We ended the night on some churros and they were to die for! Crunchy on the outside and fluffy in the middle.

The Coffee section isn't quite ready yet but the rest is in full swing with the rear section due for some more work including a new copper pot still arriving in January. The design business Toolbox is under the same roof, tucked in behind their coffee bar. There is obvious street appeal from its corner location with dark walls, a full glass front with a vertical lift front glass door, minimalist but not cold and kind of starting to get a look of its own. The bath tub above the bar is a great touch. Our visit was part of a North Adelaide Primary School fundraiser, where Adam, co-owner with Wes in this bar enterprise, is a parent. Our group took part in gin flights, with some mixing and experimenting of our own, along with some knowledgable commentary from Adam. Some ordered dinner with options of sliders (x3) and fancy toasties while others enjoyed an antipasto assortment. I will admit I failed to properly peruse their menu options on this occasion and whilst this is a gin focussed bar they have enough to please whomever walks in. The staff were lovely and approachable and I mention this because this can sometimes be a deal breaker for customers. They source their (wine) spirit base from the Barossa and even the tonic water and vermouth they use as mixers are Australian. Our gin offering on the night was their staple small batch 42% craft gin, the shiraz barrel 60% craft gin, and their monster 69% bathtub cut gin which should carry a warning label (great with a splash of tonic). We also got lucky and tasted a 'Christmas release' gin special with a cake like nose and obvious holiday flavours, a perfect gift or something to sip on the actual day (see photos re tasting notes). I didn't eat or drink anything on the night I didn't enjoy and I think PLC will continue to grow and attract new customers and become a regular on the Adelaide scene. I'm hoping their coffee is phenomenal. If you like a gin you need to go and if you don't just come for a look - maybe all the medals and accolades displayed around the bar will be enough for you to get curious :)

While I should probably be more reserved about sharing…read morethis sort of thing in public, I have absolutely no shame in admitting that I very much enjoyed Gemtree's wine. (We just finished our last bottle last week. Sad face). Generally, when people start talking about bio-dynamic growing techniques, organic whatnot, our eyes gloss over because I usually interpret that as compensation for why the wine doesn't taste as good. It's often been the case for me this past decade. Gemtree, however, blew a massive hole in this trend, theory, assumption or whatever. Massive hole. These are bold, character-filled, and pretty damn good wines that dare you to diss them. They are un-dissable! We followed the completely backwards directions of our GPS, which directed us to the administrative offices, not the tasting room. Bad GPS. However, because of this misdirection, we were able to see just how expansive the Gemtree estate was. This is quite a bit of grape-growing land! Which made a lot more sense later, when the floor cut-out in the tasting room showed the different soils across the area and how they relate to the wines. The wines were amazing, the playground came in SUPER handy for the kiddo, I kicked the soccer ball on the grounds, learned some new things about poo, and gained a greater appreciation for all the science and care that goes into making all this very lovely wine. Stop, visit, take in the breathtaking scenery, learn some new things, and buy tons of their wine.

A fantastic start to our wine tour, Gemtree cellar door really was...well...a gem!…read more This was a great location to start our day as the staff were friendly and knowledgable, talking us through their wine selection with plenty of quirky details and gusto! Their thorough knowledge allowed us to start the day with plenty of info ready to take to following venues. The wines were all superb and I certainly didn't leave empty handed! Although it was a chilly summers day when we visitied, I can see this being a fantastic place to soak up the sun with a few drinks in hand - their balcony area has a great view and there's even a playground to keep any children tagging along happy. Check out this gorgeous little winery - well worth a stop in!

The service has never been 5 star and sometimes it takes a while to be served. Staff always seem friendly though and I try to relax into the beach vibe instead of worrying that things aren't perfect. I like the atmosphere and it varies delaying on day and time of day. Sunday evenings is always busy and there is live music, plus an enthusiastic dancing crowd. Quite an older crowd the later it gets on Sundays. I have had a few meetings here in the day and it's a great spot to chill out and pretend to work ;-) I agree with Chloe about the food being a bit overly deep fried. I have had some tasty food here, and it does always look fresh and nicely presented, but some lighter options would be welcome. The cocktails look amazing, but somehow I just about always order sparkling wine! I'd recommend keeping an eye on their Facebook page as they put up great photos and details of their specials and new offerings. They put up some enviable sunset photos too. All in all, a fun place in a brilliant location!

Bacchus is one of the better locations because of their good wine menu and well made cocktail and drinks list. They would get 5 stars in my books for location and the fact you can drink on the foreshore alone. Unfortunately though they have an incredibly ordinary food and tapas menu and no matter how many times I give that place a try I am always disappointed by their unoriginal, over fried, pre-packaged food. It's weird, because their menu and photos of food from Facebook always look so enticing, so maybe I'm just ordering wrong? That said, I won't say no to a nice vino on the deck as the sun sets in winter or summer, enjoying the 25+ eye candy and imagining I own my own apartment on the beach in Adelaide!
