I came here last month and found out I was miscarrying our very wanted child. While here we of course signed an entire books worth of forms while in distress because, you know, I was having a miscarriage. One of these things was a No Surprise Billing form. A billing person explained it to us and told us that we could only be charged a max of $XXX after insurance for our visit because the hospital was transparent with its charges. We signed because the number given was one I could handle, barely. However, today I received a bill for almost 3 times the amount I was given on the No Surprise Billing form. We of course call the hospital confused and were transferred to physicians billing where we were told that the physicians billing is NOT AFFECTED by the No Surprise Billing and can basically charge whatever they want. We expressed our frustration about this because nowhere in the explanation of the No Surprise Billing was it ever told to us that the physicians billing was not part of it. We were told that one of the first forms we signed (among the many) mentioned that physicians billing is separate from facility billing. Ok, but why was it not explained to us that it wasn't included in the No Surprise Billing? Yeah it's a separate bill but so is imaging and that IS included in the No Surprise Billing...so we are now left with a bill 3x the amount we expected, waiting on the bill from the facility that hopefully is the amount expected. That will bring our total to paying 4x the amount we were told. I went to the emergency room because I was losing my baby. And now I have to deal with paying a bill that I feel is incredibly predatory. Basically, the No Surprise Billing form is a cover and the physicians can charge you whatever they want. Whatever amount they tell you at the time of treatment is pennies compared to what you will be charged after the fact. Also, no one answers your calls no matter what time of day you call. The front desk and front of house people are fantastic and answer right away but as soon as you are transferred to anyone else (patient advocate, billing, etc.) be prepared to get sent to voicemail and NEVER get a call back. Overall this has made a devastating experience even worse and I will NEVER go back. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU CAN AVOID IT.
