I am 35 years old and have struggled with lower back pain throughout my entire adult life. Despite…read moremy best efforts (yoga, chiro, massage) it continued to get worse. I have broken my wrist, my leg, and my clavicle. I know pain well, but nothing is quite as debilitating as lower back pain. It would interfere with my desire to go out, be social, go on a walk, go to a concert, go on vacation and at times not even get out of bed. Desperate for a solution, I went to google and discovered The Disc Institute right here in Pittsburgh. I am a skeptical, but hopeful person so I went into this with an open mind and low expectations. It's been about 9 months since I completed the program and my back has never felt better. I am extraordinarily thankful that they are located right here in Pittsburgh and that I happened to find them through google. Otherwise I probably would have eventually found myself getting injections, surgery and never getting any better. The best investment I have ever made for my health and happiness. Bonus: Their staff is incredibly kind and patient.

It was getting so bad I found it difficult to sit down, I could not drive my car for more than 5 minutes without feeling pain. The Disc Institute came highly recommended to me but I was not sure what to expect. It has been a little over 1 year since completing my last treatment and I still remain pain free!!!! Thanks to Dr.Rafferty and his highly professional staff that always went above and beyond for all their patients. I am truly grateful for everyones help and to be pain free again!!! I highly recommend The Disc Institute. Thank you all

The staff are professional, deeply compassionate, and take the time to listen, ensuring you receive the highest quality care. The clinic itself is aesthetically pleasing and, most importantly, immediately affirming of all people. Finding Central Outreach was essential for my well-being. This is a team I trust implicitly.

The atmosphere is ok - there's a lot of work that needs to be corrected specifically on the walk in side, there's no reason why staff should be talking about patients out in the open specially registration - UNPROFESSIONAL and a HIPPA VIOLATION. Under no circumstances should any staff member of central outreach be discussing about patients and or their personal healthcare especially if the patient is not present to defend themselves..... The average 20 - 30 min should not be that long especially if your the first patient of the day on the walk in side there's no reason why I should have waited 35min at 9am got seen by 10am was out the doors by 1045am that's unacceptable. When a specific provider is being asked for and called for ---- STOP SENDING SOMEONE WHO WE DIDNT ASK FOR The waiting rooms need to be more expanded it gets way to crowded by 1115am and most people have to start standing or they go outside back to their cars.....

My experience here started out great but kept going downhill after I was diagnosed with cancer and…read morethe hematologist I'd been seeing there turned into my oncologist. I ended up leaving AHN and switching to UPMC Hillman Cancer Center because I just couldn't handle the oncologist's attitude any longer. Everything about my treatment was her way or no way. I had no say in my healthcare at all. She also seemed to get annoyed if asked a question. When first diagnosed, I asked her what the prognosis was for stomach cancer. I got a lecture on how she's had a lot of patients older than me that got through it just fine. That wasn't what I asked, though. I had to go home and Google. FYI, stomach cancer has a 30% survival rate because it's usually caught too late. Luckily, that wasn't the case with me. When I was first diagnosed, my gastroenterologist told me I needed to see an oncology surgeon, so I made an appointment with one. When I saw my oncologist, she told me to see some doctor she's apparently friends with. When I told her I already had an appointment with an oncology surgeon, she got mad and literally made me sit there and wait while she texted her doctor friend to tell him I wouldn't be seeing him! How rude! I'm glad I switched, though, because it seems as though the Hillman Cancer Center is a lot more up to date than the AHN Cancer Institute at Forbes. My oncologist there did a (can't remember the name of the test) DNA test. The tumor was tested for its DNA, then my blood sample was tested to see if there was any of the tumor's DNA in the blood. Negative is good & means the cancer most likely won't return. Positive is bad and means it will. They don't do that at AHN Forbes. I gave two stars instead of one because the rest of the staff are really nice.

After over 14 years in the same pain without resolution I was sent to see these folks. Right away…read morethe front of house staff blew me away. As it happens on my first appt there was an upset patient they were dealing with and an irate lady who wanted to be seen right away and her first appt had been made for a week from that day. The staff never raised their voice, they never lost their cool. They quickly and efficiently defused both situations and it was business as usual within minutes. Next I met Dr Jen. She is AMAZING. She gets it. She truly has a gift- she is able to understand what you are describing it to her and quickly comes up with a theory as to what is causing it. In my case she suspected a miss dx and set about investigating it. That got me in front of Dr Gandhi. In moments he confirmed that this pain is coming from exactly where she thought it was~ he injected it and after 14+ years - there was ZERO pain. This was huge. Now they have done oodles of testing to narrow it down further - and currently Dr Kinback (AMAZING) is tracing the trigger points and injecting them. My point is - these people are their name. They are not a pill farm. They have strict rules. If you want answers - take your pain here. They will get to the bottom of it. All you have to do is cooperate with them. They have your back - literally.

4 months ago, I would have given this office a 5 star. I love the staff and still do. I've been…read moregoing to this office for over 15 years. My doctor was Dr Jen for a very long time. She was fantastic! I've never had an issue once in all the years that I've been going. I never tested positive for ANYTHING and I've always tested positive for my meds (unless I couldn't get them from pharmacy). I got a new doctor, Doctor Mike about 3 months ago as Dr Jen left. I liked him as well. Still do! However, for the past 3 mths, I've tested negative for my meds. Literally, 13-15 hours later and the meds could NOT be detected in a urine screen. How is this possible? I begged and pleaded for the dr to help me figure out why this is happening. I researched on my own. I'm going through menopause BAD. It could be the way I'm metabolizing the medication. Also my PCP prescribed me antidepressants to help with hot flashes. I was on this for awhile but they increased the dosage by like a lot 3 months prior; the same time I started testing negative. There has to be a connection to one of these reasons. I spoke with my doctor and he said he will discuss with Dr. Rao. I received papers in the mail less than a week later discharging me from the practice. I was devastated. They think I'm selling the meds. First of all that's illegal! I also have a good job and I NEED the medication. I called the office immediately... I was very nice (I love those girls over there). I was immediately hung up on. That crushed my heart. I've built a relationship with those people I thought. I emailed the office and I asked if I could come there both in the morning and in the afternoon the day before my next appointment so that I could take the meds in front of someone. I could then take the drug test the following morning at my appointment. That way they could see I'm really taking the medication but the test says otherwise. Would I do this if I were lying? I'm a good person who always does the right thing... or tries like hell to. The paper I received also stated that I could start on Suboxone to help get me weened off my meds, and to call the office for additional details. No one will call me back. When I'm out of meds I will go in withdrawal. I take my meds daily because the pain is that bad. It's truly is debilitating. I'm terrified to face my reality without meds for the pain. I may have to resign from my job over this as I work long hours. I was beyond grateful for their help and I would have never done anything to risk losing them. And to think I would do something criminal is offensive and hurtful. Doctor's are supposed to take an oath to help patient's but they just dumped me for something I'm not doing. Before writing me off, I would love to prove to them that something is off with my testing. Let's figure this out together! I don't blame them for thinking the worst. I'm sure they see tons of deceit hourly. I mean it's my word against a test. The odds are stacked against me. But again, I've been their patient for over 15 years and I've never been a problem. My pain is legit and chronic. I wish they would have worked with me on this so we can determine why this is happening. What if this happens to another innocent person? What if they're discharged without cause? Just be mindful of this. It's a freak thing but clearly this does happen and it's super frustrating. I will find out why my tests are coming back negative, I'm going the distance on this because I'll probably be blocked from all other pain clinics because this is now on my record. When my meds run out and I'm stuck with all this pain, I may even call Channel 4 news. People experiencing chronic pain need to know this can happen to them. I'll be so miserable that I just won't care anymore. Also, from what I've learned, withdrawal can be dangerous without the care, guidance and supervision from a doctor. They instructed me to call their office for the medication (suboxone), which will help with withdrawal symptoms. I called and no one will return my call; therefore abandoning me when this time comes in a few weeks, and I'm terrified. I need to be clear, Pain and Spine aren't falsifying my results. I firmly believe they're really reading negative results for meds on my drug screen. It's either due to menopause, other medication I'm taking OR Quest (company who does the drug screen). The only thing Pain and Spine is responsible for is not allowing me to prove myself, which I could have done very easily. Being right is that important to them and they didn't want me to prove them wrong, which I would have done. It's heartbreaking!
