This doctor may be great, I couldn't tell you. In an attempt to avoid leaving the area for cosmetic dermatology services, I called today to ask about the cosmetic services offered (as noted on their website) and the very rude and incredibly short receptionist said, "yeah he does cancer stuff so he can do that too." What kind of answer is that? Why would you have a person answering the phone who does not know which services are offered? Pathetic. I asked for someone else who might be able to answer my specific question and was met with the same dismissive response. If I can't even get a simple yes or no answer regarding whether or not this doctor performs a procedure that I intend to make an appointment to receive, then why would I make an appointment? The receptionist sets the tone for the level of professionalism of an office and this person is deeply lacking the skills necessary to represent a professional office. After reading the other reviews about the customer service, one dating back to 2012, I can only infer that the entire business is equally as unprofessional. We love Dr. K! He literally saved my life. I was in his office while he was removing a melanoma (the deadly kind of skin cancer) from my husband. I was wearing a skirt and he noticed a mole on my leg, told me to come back for an exam. It was positive for melanoma, and a bit more serious than my husband's. Had he not noticed it and removed it, I'd be dead. Really. We both still see dr k at least a couple of times per year - he's a good guy! I looked at some of the other reviews and am wondering why you go to the dermatologist, to chat with the office staff or to receive medical attention? I see him to deal with a life threatening cancer. He answers every question I ask, tells me what all of the medical terminology means, and always spends a lot of time with me, reviewing every mole. I've been on the end of his scalpel many times, and I trust him absolutely. Oh, I've been in the office probably at least a dozen times, I've never met a male PA, so I'm wondering if that review is even for this office (our billing is fine, they send a bill, I pay it). After all of these times, I don't know the office staff's names (shame on me, I guess), but I find it surprising that people are mentioning a receptionist of a doctor they saw once...? So - pros: caring, intelligent, good listener, solo practitioner, you go there, you see Dr Kamath. He calls me when test results come in, and explains everything really well and has been known to nag me when I get behind on my regular visits. Cons, the robo dialer that confirms your appointment mangles his name, I hate the paper gowns, has been known to nag me when I get behind on my regular visits. (Ok, the nagging is a pro, but it cab be a pain when busy - oh wait, it's a melanoma check, guess I need to stay on that) Unfortunately, during the time I've been treated for melanoma, I have lost three people I knew to this horrible cancer. Go somewhere else... I had a skin rash on my face that I was concern about and dermatologist barely looked at my rash and he didn't really make any recommendations besides give me any ointment. (sigh) I thought he would exam it a little closer and ask the basic questions, like what kind of makeup or soaps I use... Nothing!? The entire time he had 3 assistants there (1 to type the notes and two just to be there) I decided to drop him and go to Fairfield Derm, which they treated the rash by discontinuing the recommended ointment and asked the basic questions. I just had my first appointment with Dr. K and I really liked him! I'm anxiously awaiting results from a biopsy that might be melanoma, but he definitely made me feel more at ease about it. He did a fairly thorough examination of my whole body, and found another suspicious looking mole on my upper lip are which he will biopsy as well. He took time to discuss possible results of my skin lesion, the biopsy didn't hurt at all and I also found his staff to be very friendly. read more

Doctor K. was friendly and professional. I cannot review his ability because the front staff suck. Needed meds badly, front desk, despite telling me of confirmations etc. were unable to use a FAX machine. My Primary Dr., pharmacy non-fomrulary drug purchasing staff, TriWest insurance group waited all Friday, October 27, for prescription to be FAXed. Doctor called at end of day stating that staff had lost FAX number! Yes? VA Northern California Health Care does not have copy of prescription. No meds and a long, nasty weekend approaching. Doctor stated I should go to the emergency room. From 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM a one page FAX was beyond the ability of this office read more

I too, am very pleased with my experience with Dr.K. I have been going to him for a few years now, and he is very professional! When I first went to him I had psoriasis which was getting worse everyday. With-in a year and different topical meds, it was cleared up. I still have occasional breakouts, but the last medication we tried was the answer for stopping it from getting worse. He has also done biopsies on some spots that look suspicious just to be cautious. In the beginning, his staff of young ladies didn't seem overly professional, but I chocked it up to students doing their internship. Referred here by another physician, the staff and the dermatologists at Vacaville Dermatology are both friendly and efficient. I was given the proper instructions when I made an appointment over the phone to come early for paperwork that was easy to follow and was roomed at the time of my appointment instead of waiting forever. The MD came in immediately and spent a good 15-20 minutes with me rather than taking a look, saying something to an MA and then leaving. He introduced himself and was polite, offered explanations and consistently asked if I had any questions throughout. Booking my follow-up was a breeze as well. Super staff, great service. read more

Dr. K is one of the best doctors I've ever been to. He is always thorough, smart, knowledgeable yet kind and communicative at the same time! Hard to find that combo with doctors. Everyone has always been super helpful here! I had to come back for monthly appts and it got confusing to me, but the receptionists ladies were very patient and understanding. My PA was so sweet as well. He is a Texan with a little accent...one of the nicest PA's i've ever had. Don't go to this place.. The girls that work at the front desk are not friendly.. The dermatologist also is not very friendly. He seemed like he just wanted to get me in and out as quick as possible. What really irritated me was that he gave me a shot in a cyst pimple I had but never told me that I would be billed for it afterwards so that was an extra 42 after the 35 dollar copay I already had. I understand he may not have known if my insurance would cover it or not but he should've atleast said I may or may not get an extra bill for the shot based on my coverage. Also I was not given any reminder of my upcoming appointment. I believe one of the girls at the front desk may have called me but no one left any voicemails and then just kept calling over and over again without leaving a message which I thought was unprofessional and rude. I like alot of people do not answer my phone when I do not recognize the number but I figure if it is someone I know they will leave a voicemail with a number to call back. No such luck. They just sent me a letter in the mail saying I would have a 35 dollar fee for a no show but they will waive it since it was the first time.. Which is a good thing I saw waive in the next sentence or I would've raised hell. And yes I should have been responsible for my own appointment but I had my purse stolen and lost everything a couple weeks before including my phone with all my calendar events and on top of calling everyone else about fixing everything associated with getting your purse/phone/wallet stolen calling them to see when I had an appointment was obviously far from my mind so a reminder would've been nice or just a voicemail and maybe not a rude letter in the mail. We highly recommend Vacaville Dermatology. It is rare to find a doctor who is technically skilled and knowledgeable and in addition has great interpersonal skills. Dr Kamath is one of those rare and special doctors. When my husband suspected he had melanoma the Vacaville Dermatology office recognized the urgency of the matter and made sure my husband promptly got an appointment. The skin cancer diagnosis was very scary and my husband and I had many questions. Dr Kamath was very patient and made sure our questions got answered and all our concerns were addressed in detail. Dr Kamath was never rushed and he was always very kind and understanding. The medical treatment my husband received to remove the melanoma was very professional and most importantly successful !! All subsequent check-ups were very thorough as well. We fully trust Dr Kamath and feel very confidant in his care. We feel blessed that we found such a great dermatologist when we needed it most. read more

What a great Dr to go to. He is thorough and explains what could be done. As I have had a few spots that needed to be biopsied his skill with a scalpel was more than adequate. My scars have been minimal, even 1 on my lip. In a world that is making it harder for private Drs to stay in business I am thankful that I have found a kind and compassionate dermatologist right here in our city. Only five stars to give out. Seems so little for Dr. K who saved my life. I was referred by my doctor due to a patch of discolored skin on my left forearm. Dr. K performed a quick body screen and noticed another discolored patch warranting bioptsey on my back. The patch on my arm was carsanoma and the one Dr. K found was melanoma. After six months my scars are paper thin and getting thinner by the day. Thank you Dr. K ! I have had ten procedures done now. No return of melanoma as yet. Edward smith, vacaville. read more
