Another Vagabond has opened up shop in North London. This one is on Holloway Road, just a few hundred yards upwards from Highbury Corner. It's a cool place. Just like it's older sibling in Stroud Green, this one is definitely part of the hipster family: minimal and rough design; focus on great coffee, free wifi and cool people. The perfect place for me ;-) I came here on Easter Monday and it was not crowded at all. I recognised the owner from the previous location and given that there were not many customers, we had a quick chat. I didn't check if they offer the same menu as at the other place, but if they do, I recommend the omelets...they were tasty! read more

Live across the street from Vagabond, and I was very happy that they were opening up an artisan coffee shop so nearby. I'm a big fan of Maison d'Etre on Highbury Corner, but sometimes, you just want something that's 30 seconds away, to grab a quick coffee, and read the papers. Nice place, very spartan, making this place really just about the coffee. There is free wifi, but not that many plug outlets... so this is not a place were your'e gonna squat. The hot chocolate is pretty good, especially the extra dark chocolate, which is almost bitter, but not so much so that it'll make you squint. Definitely a recommended alternative to the Seattle crap you get on Upper St, or the usual Costa, etc. Food is more diversified at Maison d'Etre, and that place still holds a special place in my heart, but this version of Vagabond is good. Not a bad little cafe, conveniently located for the lower Holloway/Highbury area, with lots of seating and a pleasant garden area at the back. I visited on a Monday lunchtime, and it was fairly busy, especially as people started coming in for lunch after I had sat down. The WiFi was having problems, which not only caused me to give up and find somewhere else to work, but also caused problems with the card machine at the cafe. However, the food was enjoyable, and I quite liked their can of Dalston soft drinks, which seemed less sugary and chemical than their large brand counterparts - although for £2 a can, they were a bit expensive. Best coffee in the area, bar none. Rustic hipster decor inside, lovely garden in the back. I've not yet tried the food, but it looks pretty good. Fast wifi for coffee shop camper assholes, like myself. It loses a star for two reasons: no power plugs (that I could see, and the barista was too busy to ask), and coffee on the expensive side. Other than that - it's fantastic, and I go out of my way to have a coffee here all the time. read more

One of the best english breakfast you can have in London! This place is just amazing. Great selection of breakfast/brunch with No 1 their Vagabond breakfast. Beans that are properly prepared by themselves (not the usual canned ones from groceries), spicy sausages, crispy bacon, fresh oven-cooked potatoes and tasty black pudding. The vegeterian alternative is full of freshly choped/cooked veggies. The space is a bit tiny and the seats are becoming sometimes unconfortable, but the environment is so cosy. Flat whites as they should be with coffee beans that distinguish from the ones used from other coffee shops. Totally recommended! read more

Very good coffee - actually very very good coffee. Nice tunes, hipster vibe with distressed decor. This could be in Hoxton...not sure how I have not spotted this before. Daughter polished off a rather tasty sarnie - thumbs up from her which is a rarity. The barren lands of Holloway Road and the corporate costas actually has a destination..will be back. I have been looking for a place like this nearby - very good, reasonably priced food, good service and a more 'chill' atmosphere. 'Sunday' nearer to me has a good option but the fact that they are the only good option nearby means lines streaming out the door and I simply do not queue. One miss and its not enough to deduct a star is their banana bread that was so 'unsweet' (normally a positive to me) that it tasted a bit dry and almost pasty. Eh. The salmon toast and eggs with bacon and mushrooms were fantastic and again, all very reasonably priced when you consider the quality. Highly, highly recommend - will be coming back early and often. read more

Now this is what I call a specialty coffee roaster and shop! I ordered a Decaf Latte that was perfection, in my opinion; great aroma and flavor, nice balance of coffee to milk ratio (a bit more on the coffee side than milk, which is how I like it), and the smell and taste of the roast is noticeable even with the decaf (which is not the case everywhere)! To top it off, the latte art was lovely and my drink was served at just the right, warm temperature. My husband enjoyed his Americano, where he could get an even stronger and bare taste for the roast sans steamed milk. Their banana bread is moist and flavorful. Their chocolate chip croissant is a bit scarce on the chocolate chips and not as moist as I prefer, although my hubby thought it was fresh. We enjoyed our coffee on the patio on a lovely, sunny afternoon. There is plenty of room to have a seat and stay awhile in the front or back room indoors or the large, outdoor patio in back. I appreciate that they offer tap water in a bottle, kept chilled in the refrigerator. This is one of the best specialty coffee experiences I've had in London over the past five weeks of our stay! The relaxed, hipster vibe fits in well with the neighborhood as well. read more

Well, Im a regular. If look for proper specialty coffee and baristas, u wont be dissapointed. Dont think there is anything else this quality in the area. I stopped searching - I just come here. This crowd here, they enjoy and know what coffee is about, they set a lovely space here, rustic, bricks, wood, hipster-like tho not pretentuos ir. Coffee is mostly Has bean. I was already a regular at Vagabond N4, this one on holloway road has same vibe, but more spacious. Yes, wifi available, couple plugs. Check out big room in the back with roof windows - more quite, no wifi there tho. Think I jut need to lobby here for milk to be organic. read more

This is a nice little cafe in wonderful Highbury and Islington which serves the best bacon sandwich I've ever had, and for such a reasonable price too. Try the Bacon Bap, best with HP sauce! In addition, the coffee selection is great and tasty, and the ever changing cake selection lets you come back and explore. One of my favourites is the vegan Lemon thyme courgette cake! Can't wait to come back. It is also nice if you want to work a bit, bring your laptop! Staff is very nice and always up for a quick chat too. Great place. :) read more

One of the worst espressos I have ever had...incredibly acidic. I don't understand that the hipster coffee shops that pretend to be knowledgeable about coffee but do not manage to brew a smooth and well balanced espresso. Every train station bar in Italy serves a much better product and is far less pretentious. Some advice for the owner: organize a coffee tasting with you baristas and properly adjust you grinders... read more

I am a fan again... They've changed the menu and you can have coffee either 'black' or 'milky' which is good. How refreshing. No more long list of lattes, cappucinos, flat whites and whatevers, just 'milky' which I can tell you is seriously good coffee with dense and thick warm foamed milk, done just right....and the guy serving was friendly too. read more

Overly pretentious finny Park coffee shop that wants to be in Dalston. I had the flat white which was decent but over priced. I also had two cakes, both of which were also expensive and also undercooked (I would particularly recommend steering clear of the chocolate brownie). All on all, I'd rather have gone to Costa. Decent coffee and good to see decent coffee in the area, other than maison d'etre. Coffee is generally good but bit hit and miss in terms of consistency. Good spacious layout with reliable access to wi-fi. Good selection of fruits, pastries and little snacks. Staff are super friendly. read more

Quite disappointed at the lack of heathy breakfast options on offer, was hoping for something simple perhaps fruit and yoghurt. But after all this is a coffee shop... That said my coffee was bitter and not very well made at all. Ended up going to Upper St which was a shame. On the plus side, staff were friendly and the place looked good. read more

Favourite Holloway based coffee shop. Full of pretentious yuppies but serves a mean aeropress over ice and has wicked garden area. Grab a panini if your hungry as these go down a treat. Expect filter coffee served in old school whiskey bottles and bags of raw beans on display with their roaster!!! read more
