On a 6-hour walking/hiking tour of the beaches of Trindade my guide stopped at this open-air, beachfront restaurant and suggested I look at the menu and select something for lunch that we'd have as we returned from our hike and dip in the natural swimming hole. He pointed at the many seafood dishes, mentioned that all basically served 2 people, and noted that everything was very good.
Hours later we returned, cleaned up briefly at the showers in back, then took a seat overlooking the ocean. Caipirinhas were ordered as was a side of beans. Then the plates started arriving.
In this gorgeous setting, after the experience I'd just had, having this sort of food and drink was the whipped cream atop the sundae. There was nothing not to love; it was the most blissfully joyful dining experience imaginable.
I'd ordered the Fish Filet in Passion Fruit Sauce (BRL $80, about $23 US, serves 2 amply) because anything with passion fruit is immediately improved by 100%. Perfectly prepared seafood - a lot of it - was topped with a deliciously unique sauce, the tangy passion fruit seeds in ample abundance. Served with rice and salad, with the gentle waves crashing below us, Brazilian children running back and forth, tired legs, sandy feet. Well, it was my idea of perfection.
If your tour leader suggests stopping here you've obviously found yourself a high quality guide who cares about your best interests and enjoyment. If not, get here on your own and order just as I did. I can't imagine that I'll ever be back but I'm hopeful that my memory of lunch here will stay with me for the rest of my life. read more
