Having done a lot of our own research as to the different types of flooring available to us, our next step was whether retailers would have what we liked. We found many did not have the selection to give us more choice. We needed to find a good retailer who has good customer service and has staff who do excellent installation because we were not going to do it ourselves. At one big box retailer we were not too impressed by their impersonal sales staff, because they provided us with limited information on what would be involved to have the existing carpet removed and have the underlay and the new floor installed. A good friend had used Metrotown Floors and Interiors before and had referred us to contact them with our flooring project. So we made some time to contact them and to go visit their showroom. The showroom had a very good selection of all types of good to high quality flooring. The customer service representative Al Eris welcomed us as we came through the door. He asked us what was our plan and what needed to be done. Then, he made a home visit to measure the work space and bring up any concerns that needed to be addressed. For example, what baseboards could be used that would go best with the current door frames, trimming of the doors, and to consider that we may need to level the underground floor before installing the underlay and the new flooring. We were impressed by Al's professionalism and his attention to detail. So impressed that we chose to go with Metrotown Floors. Once we chose the underlay and flooring we wanted Al was quick to give us samples of the product, and he advised us of the cost estimate within a reasonable amount of time. He put the time and effort into understanding our needs and he was there for us before, during, and even after our job was completed. Reaching out to us to see if we had any concerns with the installation and if we are satisfied with his customer service and the hard working staff who did the installation. We had our floors redone in August of 2011. Let me start by saying that our floors look really good. Murray really warned us away from staying at home during the process but where would we go for 2 weeks? So we stayed in the basement for most of it. The smell wasn't that bad but maybe that was (1) because it was water based (2) the fumes might be different for different people? In either case I'd recommend sticking around so you can check in on the house and stuff like that. We had some complaints originally about some miscommunications and things other than the actual floors themselves, but when Murray and I discussed it, Restoration Hardwood put customer service first and came back more than a year later to repair some cracks and redo some of the quarter rounds. Thanks Restoration Hardwood! BTW Justin who came to do this last round is a total star. He even DAP-ed the 1/4 rounds after installing them.

The more I got into the reno though, I realized how oddly out of place my floors looked since everything else in the house was updated. I decided to contact some flooring companies to see what the cost and process would be. One of the companies I came across was Restoration Hardwood. I called the number and it was answered by a receptionist who paged an estimator to call me back. The estimator called me within an hour and we scheduled an appointment for him to come by and have a look at my place. After the visit, I was provided with a quote within 1 day. The price was surprisingly reasonable and so far the experience dealing with the estimator was very professional. Their website was informative and much of their past work is displayed on there. I could also tell that there was a big commitment to customer service. I decided to go ahead with them and they started within 2 weeks. Murray (the owner) was on site the first day to help get set up, but it was his crew of Tyler and Devin that did the work. They were very qualified and courteous. They did a great job and always cleaned up after themselves and protected my home from getting damaged and dirty. The process is pretty much dust free as they claim, although I was told that there would be a small amount of dust that would be wiped up by them afterwards (and it was). The job was finished exactly on time and I couldn't be happier with the end result. The stain looks better than I thought it would and the finish is perfect. Murray even emailed me within hours of the job being completed to ask for feedback. I would gladly refer anyone to get their floors refinished by Restoration Hardwood.

About a year after buying installing the wood, we had a renovation done and it required ripping out some of our beautiful flooring. Kevin was able to find the same flooring that matched the shade that was sold to us the previous year. Jordans Flooring (Burnaby) installed flooring in our apartment in 2017. The workmanship was poor,…read moreand even after an attempted fix, issues remained. Transition pieces were not properly glued down, baseboard nails were not set flush, and the caulking was poorly done--problems that are still visible today. I lived with these issues for years because fixing them once was not enough and I did not want to deal with the issue again. The manager at the time did offer me a partial refund so I didn't ask for a 2nd fix. In hindsight I should have. Recently, I re-engaged Jordans because I need to redo my flooring. Engaging with the current store manager I was told in person that we would be "taken care of" and "hooked up" because of the 2017 experience. What followed was a 10¢/sqft price reduction (about $55 total). When I raised this marginal discount, the alternative offered was removing recommended services of leveling and voiding warranty. This process wasted significant time and did not rebuild confidence with Jordan's. We chose another contractor.

The first time, they were the first store we went to and we would dub them later "the expensive flooring store." The second time was to book our floor install because, as it turned out, they were not the most expensive at all. In fact, they had the floor we WANTED at the price we NEEDED. A few general comments: 1. They have a full range of products - so talk to them, they will help you narrow down what is best for your particular conditions. 2. We worked with Garth Burak who was very, very helpful and super responsive to inquiries. 3. THEIR INSTALL TEAM WAS DUCKING AWESOME. Fransico was THE MAN and had more hustle in his baby finger than most people have in their whole body. He busted his but to get the demo done in a day. Huge. KUDOS. Alex was the site forman and he was also awesome, super communicativ. 4. The floors look gorgeous. The team cleaned up after themselves. I can't say enough good things about the experience.
