Our daughter was about 18 months at the time, and I would say that overall, she really liked it! It's a bit on the pricey side, honestly, but if your kiddo isn't normally exposed to live music or musical instruments, I would definitely check it out. Bill is a true musician/artist, through and through, and opens up the rest of the rooms after the class for your kiddos to explore. you don't have to worry about "oh no, what if my kid touches something??" Bill welcomes kids to explore and play --- incredibly inviting environment. Julie did a wonderful job creating a sense of community in the class. she has an amazing voice, and engaged us in some fun songs. After some songs, my daughter would say "more!". The only part that made it a little tough was that the sound was quite loud and so was Julie's voice, so it actually made my daughter cry a couple of times (she is a bit sensitive to noise, though!) My husband is a musician of sorts, so our daughter has been exposed to several instruments already, but this place has quite a few more :)

Took me a while to get this review up but I thought I might as well since I've been active today on Yelp! This academy goes above and beyond. The teachers are kind and my kids love it here. Super nice academy and when I sit in on their lessons, my kids are so so happy! I have a little on at home and want them to be more involved since they're not all about sports at the moment. Honestly 10/10. We chose here instead of a local place because of some concerning rumors and we couldn't be happier!

I've been a student at Studio Shanks since 2018, when I was fresh out of college and looking for a voice teacher who could earnestly teach me how to sing. At the time, there were flashy online ads for folks that could "make you a superstar" and all of it felt so loud and nothing seemed to fit. At one point Patricia returned my call. Immediately I knew that she was the right teacher for me. It was obvious that she is not just naturally fun and easygoing, but also a true technician when it comes to the craft of singing. It's been a few years since we began working together. I've discovered that singing is something that can be learned at any age. It requires hard work, but it can be done. Luckily, Patricia is entirely dedicated to the growth and success of her students. Knowing this makes it much easier to bring my own effort during and between classes. I am honestly amazed at how, despite having worked with many respected luminaries in the field, Patricia remains humble and always with a sense of humor that puts me at ease. She's been teaching adults, teens, and children how to sing or play piano for over 15 years now, in addition to currently being a "working musician" herself as well as a worship leader and has over 30 years' professional performance experience. I decided to take piano lessons and in my hunt for a teacher, I found her on the Thumbtack site. Other students gave her great reviews, her prices were average and I liked that she didn't live 30 miles away for me (although she will come to you if you want). She's very easy to talk with and I can tell she's very intelligent with lots of information in her head that she's eager to teach me. There's a great 3 in on book she likes to use and recommends buying, where each lesson builds on the next one nicely. This is going to be a great learning experience and just what I was looking for to start playing the piano, BUT nothing is going to happen unless I practice. You get out what you put in.
