You guys. Seriously. You guys. Val is the jam and the peanut butter. Found her through these glowing reviews on Yelp so I wanted to add to the resounding chorus. I am new to the LA area and my brother's wedding events spanned two weekends in mid-October. My sister and Mom were coming in from DC and also wanted their makeup done, so I took to Yelp to find someone who would come to us and who clearly was familiar with working with darker skin tones. Val was the first one I found and after going to her website, I straight up prayed that we would be lucky enough to work with her. And we did! She met us in random locations in Santa Monica and Malibu, made us look and FEEL beautiful, and above all, made us as comfortable as she could. I did 2 trail makeup sessions for my wedding and hated the way the girls did my makeup. I finally decided to go on yelp to hopefully find someone that I would be happy with for my special day. It was running down to the wire so I did not have enough time for another trial but with Valerie's portfolio I took a chance. She did the most amazing job ever. I have Asian eyes, and not every makeup artist can apply makeup properly on me. I wanted the dark smokey eye look and Valerie nailed it on the first try. She ended up doing 3 of my bridesmaids also and everyone was so happy how their makeup turned out. The only thing is that she is a little pricey. Almost double what other artist charge. Valerie Vonprisk did makeup for me and my 2 sisters for my middle sister's wedding day this past Saturday. I've known Valerie for years and used her many times in the past for makeup for fashion photoshoots when I was Fashion Director for a magazine. When it came time for my sister's big day, I knew just who to call to do the makeup. Valerie came to my house and did all 3 of us back-to-back in just 3 hours. I have modeled quite a bit in the past, since the age of 14 (I'm now 32), so I've had my makeup done by more MUAs than I can count. The aesthetic choices Valerie made for each of our unique features, and the application on each of us was absolute PERFECTION! I've never been so pleased with a makeup artist's work. We all looked and felt our best all day. The wedding ceremony was outside on September 1st, which was a very hot and sunny summer day here in San Diego. We went from ceremony under the sun, to a several hour long dinner, followed by another several hours of mingling and dancing during the reception. And through it all our makeup didn't move. By the time we shut things down well after midnight, our faces still looked fresh and flawless, which I've never experienced before from anyone else's makeup application! When I got to her studio no one answered, we waited about 15 min and finally someone anwered and said she accidentally overslept and she would be out in about 10 min. Well, this was about 1yr-1yr 1/2 ago. I called left her a voice mail and didn't hear back so about a week later I gave her another call and still never received any sort of response. Earlier this year I decided to give her another try. I called and left a voice mail simply asking what her pricing was for a makeup consultation and what her scheduling looked like, also that she could just text the answer to me if she was really busy. I NEVER heard back from her. Maybe I got the wrong impression and she only works with celebrities or something (as I have never had a makeup artist for anything before) I don't know. Even if she only works with celebrities etc. I am still a human being and it only takes literally less than a minute to call back or just text and say it wouldn't work for whatever reason so I could just look for someone else instead of waiting on a phone call that never comes.
