A permanent record was made of the Committee's determination after careful consideration of my complaint was issued after all the facts pertaining to my complaint were considered by the Committee. Folks this is a very serious issue and it's cost me of $50K in damages plus his legal fees which he never returned and the other legal fees that ensued from his neglect to file a response to a case i had pending in Rockland County and I had to hire another lawyer to handle this proceeding. Another person I know of paid him a retainer of $5k and he never even filed a motion on her behalf and she ended up losing that money and hiring another lawyer after waiting months for him to file a proceeding on her part. Not sure where the other 5 star reviews came from but I can tell you that to this day I am still paying for a judgment that should have never, ever been ruled against me but without representation, the judge set the judgement again me and not my ex-husband. The only thing super about him is how he collects money and does little for it. Consider my case carefully prior to hiring this lawyer.

My first interaction with Mr. Ripps was at the Suffern Court in Rockland County two years ago. I…read morenoticed how he interacted with his clients and I was a taken aback on how professional, kind and friendly he was towards them. His friendly demeanor gave me the confidence to approach him and introduce myself at the Court. I explained to him the predicament that I was in (which was not a good one). I was facing up to "15 years" of incarceration. Once I finished my explanation, with a big smile, he said not to worry and gave me his contact details and asked that I set up time with him at his office. Per his instructions, I reached out to his office the following day and quickly got an appointment with him. When I met him, he thoroughly listened to me. He was so reassuring, caring, understanding, explained everything thoroughly (so that I could understand) and was non-judgmental towards me. I immediately hired him as my attorney. Prior to me hiring Mr. Ripps, I had to appear in court every month. It was difficult for me as the court appearances were late in the evening and I had to ensure that my home health aide could stay and look after my husband, Rafael, who is non-verbal and bed-ridden. I am his sole and primary caretaker. Mr. Ripps immediately wrote a letter to the court, in which I signed to waive my court appearances and he would show up on my behalf. This was a very big burden lifted of me. The District Attorney also wanted me to appear at a Grand Jury. Which he also made go away. Whenever I wanted to get an update on my case, I would email Mr. Ripps and he would immediately get back to me with a full report of what was going on. He always asked how my husband and were doing. His positivity and reassurance always made me feel at ease. After TWO VERY long years, and after many meetings between Mr. Ripps and the District Attorney, a verdict was finally made. To my great surprise and with much happiness, he was able to clear me from a Felony to a Misdemeanor, then again to simple Disorderly Conduct - which is a NON CRIMINAL OFFENSE. I was no longer facing "15 years" in a prison and all that I had to pay was $250.00 fine. Additionally, my matter will be sealed. I had never had any issues with the law in the 60 years of age. I was scared and nervous that as a Gay and Hispanic man, I would be discriminated again. Mr. Ripps always treated me with the up most respect. I never felt any discrimination, or any judgement being passed over me. I will forever be grateful for how I was treated and what Mr. Ripps did for me and my husband. This could have been a not so favorable situation for not only me but for my husband. If I were to go to prison, who would take care of my husband? From 4 stars to 2 - an EVICTION "process"…read more We had okay dealings with this firm some four years ago buying two properties. The cases advanced well and there were few problems with communications. Services we got dealing with troubling tenant mostly last year were on the contrary were often sub-standard. What was supposed to be some 2-3 months process was a mess of over 7 months(!) too much of it linked to lack of proper follow through and procedures by this firm. Some things to consider (as with any law firm): RETAINERS: You may want to try to resolve issues with a lawyer that does less packaging and more acting as advocate to solve your problems more quickly and lightly. Be sure a retainer serves your purposes and benefit. COMMUNICATION (plus DELAYS): We were not communicated in detail about the case nor was first notice served to tenant for well over a month..(!) Communicating with civil servants can't always be easy but a highly paid attorney must be on top of it. The law firm must be proactive to shorten the case where possible. PROFESSIONALISM: Most real estate lawyers probably know the standard procedures pretty well, but an eviction is tricky and mistakes can make it even longer, costlier and more nerve wrecking. A good lawyer accepts responsibility for your case and its timely and expert execution. DOCUMENTS: Your lawyer must provide you and other parties with proper kind (and quantity) of documents. Almost a year into this we are still waiting for one to start debt collecting efforts. Alas, in this torturous "process" we lost most of our regular income, nearly $10,000 in lawyer's fees and peace of mind - at the worst possible time with severe illness in family. MY ADVISE: Know exactly what you need (try to solve issues without a lawyer - negotiate with you tenant directly and openly, and if unsuccessful learn how to SERVE notice of missed rent in NY before bringing any lawyer to the scene - really try to get to an agreement with tenant yourself). If needed choose your lawyer vary carefully and still remain on top of your case at all times. And good luck.
