My Moms dog was mauled by the neighbors dog and needed 2 hernias repaired. She took him to Sentinal Emergency in Missoula and they quoted her 6000 dollars for the repairs. She brought him here and they repaired him for 450$ for his 2 hernias. The doctors were very kind and stayed late to complete the surgery and remembered to give him a neck collar so he wouldn't rip out his stitches! read more

I went in for a simple teeth cleaning for my dog. First they have to do a blood test and you need to make another appointment and pay for another office call. (The last Vet, East Valley Veterinary in Mesa, AZ did not require a blood test) Now, there is something a little off on his blood test, let's do x-rays. Over $300 later, we'll we don't see anything definitive, let's do ultrasound. NO ! NOT ever going there again. My poor pup never did get the dental cleaning. read more

Everyone demands that they see Dr. Joe! I get it, I interned him in high school and every single one of my pets have gone to him since. He's amazing and is the best vet I've ever encountered!!! Think 'House' for pet ;) I recently came back for a second opinion on my cat and got scheduled with his new hire Dr. Maddy and she was amazing. Sad to see her leave. He brought on a new guy and this was my experience with Dr. Tarplee. Four yo. female dog with acute kidney failure. I sat in there for 8 hours while my pup went through IV's, Xrays, and blood tests! Everything came through not showing up with nothing wrong. I'm sure he was slightly irritated by a crazy helicopter mom but he worked hard not to show it lol. By dumb luck I requested to have an ATCH test(due to crowd sourcing) He returned the call within 20 minutes and we had her scheduled for the next day. She had a positive for such a rare disease called Addisons a few hours later. (Very commonly misdiagnosed) Yes, I did some of the work but the point is that they listened and responded appropriately. The point is, you don't have to just request Dr. Joe. You can request that he oversees the results, but he won't hire anyone that is not on your pets team! Zora recently is stabilizing on her new meds and is eating and drinking normally again. I have her singing and dancing in true husky fashion with a disease that could of easily been misdiagnosed if we weren't on the same team. I rarely like vets, buts I will stand by this one along with anyone he hires! His vet techs were very nice, and tolerant of me lingering during Zora's stay too. Not to mention he maintains a clean clinic which is very important. I really don't have anything negative to say about this clinic. read more

They called multiple times a day after he left the clinic and came home to check on him - they saved my dog's life and I am forever grateful for that. read more

I'm new to the area, so wasn't sure where to go for vet services. My friend recommended these guys. My first experience was with one of my elderly cats, which I sadly had to put down. Most of the staff were very nice, helpful & understanding. The dr. is great & explains things clearly. I went back with my 3 dogs for checkups & vaccines. Again, most of the staff is great & the dr. is awesome. I'm glad they give me the same dr. each time. There is one staff member there, however, who really shouldn't be there. She's really a terrible person. She's rude, makes you wait & doesn't seem to be very educated. She's also a mean person outside of work. The horrible thing she is doing to her own father cause me to question whether I want any of my animals near her. I'm thinking about looking elsewhere for my 4 pets medical care because of her. If she were gone, I would highly recommend this place. With her there, I would not. Her name is Heather & she's covered in tattoos. Even her facebook page shows a history of guns & problems with most everyone she associates with. It's really too bad, because the rest of the staff are fantastic! Their prices are very reasonable, appointments are easy to get and you don't have to wait forever to get in. read more

Valley Pet Clinic is topnotch -Dr Melnarik & Staff are the best & took fantastic care of my animals when I lived in the Valley. They saw us through several traumas beside routine visits & shots. They believe in keeping animal care affordable esp when it comes to medication. Even though I am in WA state, I still refer my MT friends to Dr. Joe & Dr. Emily. FYI: Doublecheck your bills from VALLEY PET CLINIC, especially if you recently had a new pet vaccinated and/or fixed. I've gone to Valley on and off for quite a few years, to see Dr. Joe, who is a great vet. Unfortunately, the office staff are very much not great, and my last transaction with them turned into an over a month long nightmare. I recently took a rescue kitten in to be brought current on vaccines and to be fixed. When I paid for the first round of vaccines, the lady at the register said that they now charge for the first round and the booster together, when I questioned why the price was so steep. I HAD to pay for the next round the first time around, and COULD NOT opt to pay for the booster when it was given. Okay, fine. I paid. That left only the fixing to be paid for. The booster shots and fixing were done at the same time, several weeks after the first shots. I dropped the cat off and had to get to work. My fiance picked him up and paid for the proceedure. When I called to see how things were at home with the groggy cat, I asked about the bill and was shocked at the total. They'd charged for the fixing, and the shots, AGAIN! I called to politely enquire about what happened and the person I talked to had an immediate foul attitude and began somewhat loudly insisting that the bill had been correct. Eventually I had to firmly insist she look up the first time I'd paid, and when she did, she then sheepishly admitted that, yes, I'd already paid for the shots, and the second charge was in error. After agreeing that I'd been charged twice, she quickly stated that there was absolutely nothing she could do to make it right. Excuse me? You charged me twice and now that you have the money, too bad for me, huh? When I mentioned that was somewhat... illegal..., she finally said she'd credit my NEXT visit for the amount I overpaid. Considering this was a rescue cat I wasn't sure I was even going to keep at that time, and my next visit wouldn't be for another 6 months, for a significantly cheaper rabies booster shot, if I even had the cat that long, I told her that was unacceptable. By this time it was 20 after 4 in the afternoon. She finally said that if I could get back to the office before they closed at 5, she would refund the erroneous charge back onto my fiance's card, but if I couldn't get back that evening, WITH HIS CARD, she wouldn't be doing anything about the situation. This meant I had to leave work. I did, because the amount they were tying up was over a days' wage for me, which is pretty substantial to my budget. Got to Valley at 4:30, and waited half an hour while three different people tried to figure out how to refund the erroneous charge. Eventually, they said they'd just have to cancel the entire amount charged to the card and I'd have to pay in cash for the fixing. Fine. I handed over the cash for the neuter operation. Except, they never cancelled the original charge to the debit card at all. I ended up paying for both the shots and the neuter TWICE. We waited a month to make sure the charge was never refunded. When my fiance called their office to mention that the refund had never shown after a month, the person got an attitude, said that their system showed that I had paid for the neuter only that day, and insinuated we were trying to get one over on them. We ended up having to turn the receipts, all of which we kept, over to my fiance's bank to dispute the charge as a fraudulent transaction. There was plenty of evidence for the bank to go after and recover the full amount from the first charge to his debit card, and they did. Thing is, there is absolutely no reason the entire thing had to be such a fiasco, and there was no excuse for the foul attitude I had to deal with in trying to politely deal with the situation. I love Dr. Joe, but I'm not going to be doing business with Valley again. I caution others to be vigilent in checking what they get charged for when going there. read more

I have been to a handful of Vets with my dogs over the years, in both Missoula and Hamilton, and VPC is the best. My dogs usually see Dr. Joe or Dr. Emily, and they are both always very kind and respectful to both myself and my dogs. They have cared for my dogs for everything from basic check ups and minor issues, to complex surgery. What I love most about them is how they take the time to explain things, are patient with my dogs, and I never feel rushed. I highly recommend VPC! read more
