They had a small "consignment" where they sold chips, candy, and THEE cutest themed cookies (wished I would have taken a picture before I devoured one of them!). I bought 3 cookies, two for my kiddos and one for me. We were given a program of the play and we quickly chose our seats. We got aisle seats on the middle left side of the auditorium. Before the play started, (as usual) I had to use the restrooms. Being at a school function I was a bit worried that it would be not up to par, but it was clean and all necessities were well stocked! The play started promptly at 7pm. The students and staff did an amazing job! Was this really a school play? They looked like pros! The costumes were on-point, and the stage looked like it was out of a professional Broadway play. Great job everybody! Now, I had to take a star because of the sound. Although you can tell the kids knew their songs and had angelic voices, it could not overtake the bad speaker sound. At many times it was hard to understand what they were saying while singing. Other than that, the play was great!

When walking in you are greeted by a gate monitor and the campus is always clean. You head right to the front office and the office stands are nice and seem to be always busy. We are new to this school and their special needs program but so far so good. The pick is easy just sign them out show id your kid is walked out. I was only able to get pictures of the outside.

I am a current attending 8th grader, I will graduate in less than a week. I have had nothing but…read morestraight A's this year, and A's and B's last year, yet this school treats me worse than kids that tend to fight or get detention. This school REQUIRES you to buy either the P.E clothes or a gray shirt or blue shorts for 20$. If not, your grade drops or you get detention, in my opinion, this is dumb, dressing out does not determine you participation in sports or your efforts, this should not be such a problem to the school, if it isn't harmful, why do students get detention or even after school detention. This goes on records! "Student didn't wear a grey shirt and blue shorts, so they go after school detention" make that make sense. Teachers here are either kind or rude, most do not care of your learning. They will leave you behind if you cannot grasp the subject within a week rather than ensuring all kids are able to learn. They will get angry if you ask questions as if it isn't their responsibility to answer these questions for students. While there is tutoring, it shouldn't be needed if teachers are able to teach properly, and many students do not join tutoring in fear they will be bullied for being "stupid" which the school does nothing to stop. Bullying is a huge factor to this school, I myself had been bullied for looking "different" I wore band Tees and had a side part, multiple times I've been called names in front of teachers, yet they brush it off, I have been threatened because I was answering questions in class, I've been called nerd and dork. The teachers do nothing and neither will the office. Even if they do, the worse they get is detention. I witnessed a fight before, the kid that started it got a week of In school suspension, while the other walked in the hallways in fear that the friends of the bully will harm him. And while I admire the school's ability to see the "good" in "bad" kids, they refuse to notice that even after months of being a problem, they will not suspend a kid for longer than a week or keep them in separate classes. They refuse to help the victims and only treat them on what they see and not what actually happens behind closed doors. This is why kids are in fear of their bullies. The school will do nothing if they tell. Instead the bullies will only bully more and continue, they might even turn worse for being a 'snitch'. Because the school basically allows this, these kids don't change and continue to make other kids uneasy or feel as if they cannot speak what they feel. Mr. Postiff, he is too strict, he dress codes shirts with bands on them, dress codes shirts with certain font, he dress codes my bracelets for being "spiked" they are rounded, and the spikes do not damage to the skin, a pencil would hurt more than my bracelets, and why would they care? I am a good kid, with good grades, and try hard, while there are kids that do drugs and are horrible people, but they do not care and focus more on harmless bracelets. They don't care about the children and rather dictate how kids act and look. The office ladies are rude, I bought a ticket for a road trip there and they spelled my name wrong, I asked them to change it, they said no. And they speak with attitude as if I am the problem.

My family recently moved to Bakersfield, hoping for a positive school environment and a fresh start…read morefor my daughters. Instead, Highland High School has shown bias, poor judgment, and a complete failure to protect my children during a very serious bullying situation. After my daughters chose to distance themselves from a friendship that became uncomfortable, another student began harassing them, spreading lies, posting threats on social media, and escalating the situation. I provided the school with videos, screenshots, and detailed statements showing clear and ongoing cyberbullying. What makes this situation even more disturbing is that the other student collected multiple students to attack my daughter, resulting in my daughter being bludgeoned, injured, and visibly harmed. This was not a typical school conflict -- it was a coordinated assault, and the school was fully informed. Despite all of the evidence: * The student who made threats, organized the group attack, and continued harassment was allowed to remain on campus with no real consequence. * Her parent was even seen freely walking around campus with her, which was completely inappropriate. * Meanwhile, my daughters were repeatedly told to stay home "for safety," essentially punishing them instead of protecting them. * Staff admitted to having my daughter's earring after the fight, then later acknowledged it may have been thrown away. * Dean Kristen Urquidez communicated inconsistently, dismissively, and left us feeling unheard, unsupported, and minimized throughout this entire process. After fully cooperating and providing everything the school requested, I was informed that my daughters will not be allowed to return to Highland High School for the remainder of the school year. Yet the student who initiated and organized the violence remains on campus without consequence. This is not fairness. This is not safety. This is not how a school should handle bullying, physical violence, or threats. As a parent, it is devastating to see my daughters punished while the aggressor faces no meaningful accountability. Highland High School failed to uphold its own bullying and safety policies and failed to protect my daughters when they needed help the most. I hope sharing our experience pushes the school to take bullying, threats, and student safety seriously -- before another family is forced to go through this.

The staff is so much different than what I remember school office staff to be like as a kid. Absolutely no professionalism whatsoever. There was no greeting, no welcome, no introduction. Just a loud harsh tone that that I found very demeaning. It was just painfully obvious that there was an air of arrogance that was palpable. I was attended to by a young lady who was dressed more like a Halloween witch than a professional in an office. "Do you have your papers" she demanded. I had to ask "who are you?" "I'm the one who's gonna review your papers" she snipped. "What is your name miss?" It was like pulling teeth. Finally she told me that she was meka. Well once the rest of the office staff got wind that there was a parent in the office who wouldn't tolerate disrespect I was marked thee rest of the time I was there as "difficult". There just seems to be a need for a complete overhaul of the entire staff or at least a very rigid re-training. As I was leaving I couldn't help but overhear a new teacher in her car crying on the phone about how the staff was mistreating her. I wish I could have someone from channel 17 down there to observe and report what's going on because I guarantee you it would make for a riveting story.
