I will start off by saying I am new to church so maybe I am not an expert on these things. There…read moreare a lot of great and unique aspects to this church that are way better than average. The members are exceedingly nice and embody many of the values that represent a Christian mindset. I have been hugged, prayed for, welcomed and guided during my first few months here. The band rocks and the environment is very low pressure. I also like the variety of speakers they get. Most of which are very good. The mediocre parts come in the fact that about 1/3 or 1/2 of the time the speakers are not very good. I like that they break their messages into multi-week programs that focus on a particular aspect, but that means they maybe shoehorn a guest or have a sermon put together that seems quite disjointed to fit the timeframe for the program. As some have noted, the Sunday message is not terribly scripture based nor is it thought provoking a lot of the time. I attend weekly for the sense of community, but have come to the realization that I will not learn much or be walked through a particular theme or idea from the bible. I do not feel closer to God or like I know his word any better than I did three months ago, but I feel less alone as I try to explore it myself. Lastly, I find the main pastor to be kind of a goober and what I would classify as a weak link to the Sunday service. He is entertaining, but not thought provoking in any way. I find he pops up for a second, says some random thing and goes to doodle on his paper the rest of the service and disappears immediately afterwards. I am sure he contributes a lot to the administration of the church, but as a shepherd to the proverbial flock of the congregation he is pretty weak.

My first experience here was terrible…read more My best friend and I went to a Sunday morning mass here back in 2009 or 2010 when our families were camping at Seacliff State Beach. We wanted to go to mass, but were unprepared since we hadn't planned to, so we only had "beach clothes," shorts and t-shirts. I felt bad, but was always told not to let anything keep you in the way of you and Jesus. After all, John the Baptist wore rags and other great Biblical figures never had nice clothes. And the church is just half a mile from the beach, so I figured they would be more relaxed and understanding. However, when we went we felt completely uncomfortable. Everyone was really dressed up and gave us dirty looks in our shorts and t-shirts. They had greeters, but nobody even greeted us or talked to us. Everyone seemed to know everyone, but not a single person talked to us or made us feel welcome. I've been to many masses at many Catholic churches all over the country and that was honestly the most unwelcome I have EVER felt in a church. Recently, when my family was staying on Seacliff Beach again I decided to give it a second shot since I wanted a Sunday mass. This time, I made sure to wear long pants and went by myself. This time, was a lot better. I was greeted and talked to several times. The priest was great and the whole church seemed like it had a nice parish community. There were a lot of high schoolers involved in the mass, which was great and the homily was very down-to-earth. Totally different experience. The people still seemed a little stuck up and exclusive, obviously everyone knows everybody, and being by myself I definitely felt like an outsider. But there were several older ladies who were really sweet and talked to me, which made it better. Overall, from my two experiences here, Resurrection is a beautiful church in a beautiful location. The parishioners could definitely work on being more welcoming and inclusive. After all, the church is GOD'S HOUSE for ALL PEOPLE, regardless of how they're dressed or how they look. Maybe next time I'm in Aptos on a Sunday, I will try again and hopefully this will have changed.

Excellent Church! They have children's ministry, a loving…read moreStaff, sound messages, and great preaching. We are really very blessed to have this church in our community. My family and I go on a regular basis. They have regular community dinners on ever so often on Sundays are incredible and I love getting to meet new people!! Coming has totally changed my life. They were welcoming at the service, focusing on being light in others' lives daily, which is totally what I'm about too. I never thought of church as a building, but the people who support others in their personal relationship with God. I've been to lots of churches, but this one just had a sense of openness I have been longing for. They love to worship, clap their hands, and praise God as the bible declares. Love the openness of worship here. If I could say one thing that stands out about this church, it would be that they love people. Open heart, open hand, open mind--Just like Jesus taught.

Pastor Mike is phenomenal..He has been so blessed with the ability to lead the people and speak the message in a way that can bring laughter and a real sense of application to daily life for everyone.
