I will start off by saying I am new to church so maybe I am not an expert on these things. There…read moreare a lot of great and unique aspects to this church that are way better than average. The members are exceedingly nice and embody many of the values that represent a Christian mindset. I have been hugged, prayed for, welcomed and guided during my first few months here. The band rocks and the environment is very low pressure. I also like the variety of speakers they get. Most of which are very good. The mediocre parts come in the fact that about 1/3 or 1/2 of the time the speakers are not very good. I like that they break their messages into multi-week programs that focus on a particular aspect, but that means they maybe shoehorn a guest or have a sermon put together that seems quite disjointed to fit the timeframe for the program. As some have noted, the Sunday message is not terribly scripture based nor is it thought provoking a lot of the time. I attend weekly for the sense of community, but have come to the realization that I will not learn much or be walked through a particular theme or idea from the bible. I do not feel closer to God or like I know his word any better than I did three months ago, but I feel less alone as I try to explore it myself. Lastly, I find the main pastor to be kind of a goober and what I would classify as a weak link to the Sunday service. He is entertaining, but not thought provoking in any way. I find he pops up for a second, says some random thing and goes to doodle on his paper the rest of the service and disappears immediately afterwards. I am sure he contributes a lot to the administration of the church, but as a shepherd to the proverbial flock of the congregation he is pretty weak.

I was welcomed when I walked in and people looked excited to be there. It's a large church so there were a lot of seating options but it did fill up right as the service I went to started at 9. Worship was so good! Everyone was passionate. It was just the right amount to prepare your heart and then they dove into the Word. They are a Bible teaching church which I love. They stuck to the Word then taught how it applied in today's world. It was convicting with love. After service I looked around and they offer tons of resources and groups for people. I loved their bookstore area. The gal that checked me out even gave me a first time gift. Way to make me feel special and included. I visit this area somewhat regularly and look forward to returning!

I stayed home and watched the children so my then wife could attend. My last real attendance was at a Congregational church in Southern California, where at age 35 I was asked to be on the board of elders. I attended from 1980-1990, I tried a couple of others but the same lack of welcoming for disabled children. I have been watching the services at Peace UCC online and am impressed with the mission, music, sense of true Christianity, acceptance of diversity, and humor. I am very nervous about walking into a church again after all of these years, but hope I can get up the nerve to walk in alone. I always get overwhelmed at the initial barrage of introductions and my terrible ability to recall names, finding is very embarrassing. I moved to Aptos in 2005 and have thought about attending again ever since. My older son passed away in 2014 and my younger son (23) lives out of the home.
