Fast forward to our local kindergarten enrollment and he is extremely well equipped to tackle kindergarten. When most kids are just learning to put together words, he is already reading and writing. While YMMV, we have been very happy with our son's experience at the Montessori Academy. It is a small school with a low student to faculty ratio. There is a lot of individualized attention that I think is key component to the kids' successful learning experience.

Since August I have not been disappointed with the amount of communication, learning and engagement that I see every single week from Chesterton Montessori. I also know how much my child LOVES going to school and what wonderful teachers there are in the classroom. We have seen so many positive changes at home with language, independence and being helpful. The school also hosts many events outside of normal school hours that we love to participate in. I think all the other parents in this school would echo my sentiments and I'm so happy with my decision to be a part of this school.

I have always believed the Montessori methods and the philosophy of the program; however I was completely unimpressed with this particular location and the head mistress in specific. It turned out to be no more than an intolerant day care facility at best; they should not be allowed to call themselves educators. After three days, they informed my nanny when he went to retrieve my son from school that he wasn't welcome back and it would be his last day. The head mistress made no attempt to contact a parent to discuss with them personally what the particular issues were, what they were doing to attempt to rectify internally, and what we as parents could be doing at home to reinforce. Very disappointing after day three; are you kidding? When asked to make an appointment to speak with her further about the situation my request was denied stating that my check and some of his belongings were in the mail... Let me add that my son attended another pre-school prep program successfully the year prior (his teacher and her aides were disappointed to see him go when we moved) and is in week two of a new program without any issue. If you are looking at educational facilities for your preschooler be certain to research other Montessori facilities in the area and pass this one by!!!

With my oldest daughter graduating from Montessori Kindergarten this year, I can say without hesitation that the curriculum, the teachers and the environment at Montessori have been instrumental in shaping the confident, intelligent, respectful little girl that she is today. I am continually amazed at how much they have learned - my Kindergartner reads at a 3rd grade level and my 4 year old reads at a 2nd grade level. He learns in Spanish for half of the day and also gets to do fun activities like yoga. He's become so much more independent and well-mannered since going there. They believe in purposeful, engaged learning and to that end the children spend half a day every week on a local farm. They have a wonderful faith based component that encourages an individual exploration of faith. And having volunteered on a weekly basis i can say why absolute certainty this school can work wonders on children who struggle in other environments. It's not cheap but it's worth very penny and the school works hard to support families with more need. I would absolutely encourage you to learn more about the method itself but also this school.
