I had to hire another plumber to fix what was not done with this repair. I.e install proper stubouts and shutoff valves. The other plumber will not only install proper stubouts, he wil also fix the drywall good as new, and will do it all for about 1/2 of what Mr Chalmers charged for just doing a quick snake-out of the drain. read more

Called Chalmers plumbing for our backed-up downstairs toilet and sink. Chalmer's Plumbing came out promptly the next day. The plumber rodded out the main pipe in our basement and stated that he couldn't get through to our septic tank; We paid for the rodding. Chalmer's plumber stated that the problem was with the sewer pipe between the house and the septic tank, and quoted us $2,200 to dig up and replace the pipe; I felt a bit off about how the plumber was a acting towards us, and instead we got a second opinion, as well as a video inspection from a reputable septic service company. Turns out we just needed one vent pipe replaced and a system blow-out, which including the video inspection cost us a total of $1,700. I got the sense that Chalmer's Plumbing was taking us for a ride. I will not be calling Chalmer's Plumbing ever again. read more

This guy gave me the best prices quote for my washer box replacement and valve replacement. Easy communication! We've had a lot of contractors here after purchasing a new home. He was the first to clean up after himself. I was impressed. I followed him out to close the garage door. It's been having issues refusing to close. We called Chalmers on a Friday morning for a little leak under our sink we had just noticed. We have only been in our place for a little over a month. Left a voicemail. Since moving into "This Old House" 2 1/2 years ago we've found issues left and right that needed fixing. For almost that entire length of time, our upstairs toilet was out of commission. The downstairs one always had to have the handle held to flush completely. Also we discovered a leak in the basement everytime we flushed it. The kitchen faucet was constantly leaking. The basement laundry basin was nonfunctional and in recent months the upstairs sink kept getting clogged. In short it was a mess. Of course we had to prioritize that against old gutters, inefficient windows, an old radiator, and general maintenance. To top it off I was laid off last September. So money of course was as Simply Red would sing.."too tight to mention". Yep showing my age. Things thankfully turned around for the time being and we finally were able to tackle the plumbing this summer. I searched Yelp and Chalmers was among the three I reached out to. One I didn't hear back from and Chalmers and another company reached back saying to contact for more details. I read the Yelp reviews of the remaining contender and those scared me off. I saw Chalmers had all positive (albeit only a few). I took a chance and am glad I did. David was courteous on phone as I detailed all that needed to be done. I scheduled a free estimate and he came by promptly as D showed him our situation. The price he came back with seemed pretty fair so I agreed to have him do the work. He finished everything on my laundry list within 2 hours. It ended up for the toilets that both had shoddy work on the wax ring which caused the leaking. Replacing the toilets and putting the wax ring properly solved the leaking issue. He was very professional and through during the whole visit. And I was very pleased with the results. Today was the first time I used Chalmers Plumbing. I needed a clogged line cleared that was causing alot of backup inside the home in the tub and sinks. He is the 2nd plumber I hired in a 2 month period for the same job. The first company was dishonest in their pricing and did not fix the problem. They basically removed the cleanout lid and let the sewage flow out and claimed they weren't able to get their 4" auger into the cleanout and thought the problem was taken care of by the amount of sewage that came out. Dave was just the opposite! For starters, he was HONEST and FAIR with pricing. He was punctual, professional, and clean. Most importantly, he cleared a bunch of roots that were blocking the lines into the home and to the city service line. It's difficult to find a qualified, honest plumber. But, now that has changed! We had a slow running laundry tub drain. After getting to response from the big rooting companies, we found Chalmers with good Yelp reviews. I submitted a quote request and heard back within minutes. So far, so good! He indicated he could come out at anytime without any overtime fees. Since this was not an emergency, we agreed on a mid afternoon appointment, which was the same day of the request. He arrived and immediately tackled the problem. Routed the slow moving drain. Fixed it with no issues. We had him then look at a couple of other minor things. Fixed those and provided good recommendations on what to do with an intermittent dripping kitchen faucet. Now, here's the main thing that differentiates Chalmers from other plumbers I have used. His estimate was fair and he stuck to it. And, he charged a nominal amount to look at the other things we asked him to resolve. Chalmers has earned us as a loyal customer. He was quick to respond to my request for an estimate and scheduling an appointment to look at the issues (two dripping faucets & a slow filling toilet tank). He gave me a fair price and scheduled an appointment to do the actual work in a reasonable time-frame. Both faucets hadn't been worked on in ages, so they gave him a considerable fight, but he was tenacious & got them both replaced - even with my dog sticking her nose into the middle of the process repeatedly to 'help' him. The plumber I last used was very good, but he does not work on Saturday. I did not want to wait until Monday because the drain I had a problem with was the laundry tub drain that my water softener and iron filter also use. I already pulled the tub out and when my hand snake could not clear the drain I called Chalmers after I saw the very good reviews on Yelp. He gave me an estimate for rooting the drain over the phone and I told him to do the job. He came out within a few hours, cleared the drain and charged exactly what was quoted. The 60 day free rooting service warranty for the same drain was a nice warranty they offer. I would highly recommend Chalmers for 24 hour or any regular plumbing service. I can tell you who not to call. You have probably seen their yellow billboards all over advertising 24 hour plumbing service. If you do not mind giving someone all your money call them. You will probably end up paying the monthly rent for one of their billboards after you pay the bill! read more

My mom's toilet was leaking and I called several plumbers for estimates. Chalmers was about half the price of several of them, and Dave said he could come out that day. He fixed the toilet and checked the sewer to make sure it was clear. Then he went down in the crawl space which is scary and gross to check out a wet area that I was concerned about. I was really worried that a recent bathtub renovation was causing extensive water damage, but he immediately identified a leak from the other toilet and replaced the seal. The total charge for two toilets was the price for one from other estimates. Where do I begin?? We had a drip in the bathroom shower faucet that needed to be fixed. Turns out we had a bad 'cartridge'. Of course I had no idea what that meant but thought it was an easy fix. Called our usual plumbing company and they agreed to come look at it for $79, okay no problem. Let me first say that prior to calling them someone unskilled tried to help us and well let's just say, it didn't work. So once the original plumber got here, he said that because whoever initially tried to take the handle off broke the screw off in it, the job was now more complicated. We also wanted the trim kit and shower head replaced. After taking some pics and calling his boss we were given an estimate of between $810-$1100 which includes cutting a hole in the living room wall to get to the plumbing and they made it clear that they don't repair the drywall. The reason for the hole is that 'it's the only way to get to the area where he needs to work in order to get the handle off'. I felt sick, to say the least but what was I to do with no plumbing knowledge...so I made the appointment and waited for them to come back. To shorten the story they didn't come at the scheduled time so I called and they said they were 'just about to call me' because it turns out they couldn't get me in that day because they didn't realize it was a two man job...I decided to get another professional opinion and here's where Chalmers Plumbing came in. I called Dave after reading Yelp reviews and he said he could come take a look at the situation right then FOR FREE and would be at the house in 15 minutes, he was here in 10. He said there was NO reason to put a hole in the wall and since I wasn't keeping the old parts the job was no problem. His calm demeanor really put us at ease because just thinking of calling a plumber can be intimidating. He was extremely professional, cleaned up after himself and only did what was necessary so at no time did we feel taken advantage of. By the way, easily saved us OVER $800. We have found a new plumber for as long as he is in business. Can't say how thankful we are to know that good, honest businesses still exist. read more
