We found Pac Lu during the middle of a transition from overseas due to a family medical crisis…read more Pac Lu was absolutely a gift from God for my teenage daughters as a safe harbor during a very tough time in life. The staff were supportive all around - for academic and spiritual needs. They provided well-organized academic instruction, good moral and character development, positive adult mentors, and Biblical Christian instruction. Both daughters found good friends and enjoyed the family atmosphere of Pac Lu. As a family with cross-cultural experience, we really appreciated the diversity of Pac Lu within a small student and faculty. Across the board, the admin and teaching staff were dedicated and caring. They daily went above and beyond their work hours in their efforts to support students and provide in-classroom opportunities as well as extracurricular activities. We were with PacLu during the pandemic and PacLu was ahead of the curve in figuring out how to transition to online teaching as well as prepare for a safe return to in-person instruction. When my girls and I talked to friends at other schools, we realized that Pac Lu was more organized and efficient than most other schools at that time. True, the school is small. The positive side of that is that parents are able to easily keep in touch with the school and student progress through open communication with admin and staff as well as an excellent online grading and report system. The downside is that activities are limited with a small student body. However, they have a spacious enough campus with lots of outdoor recreation areas as well as cool resources such as a 3D printer, maker/tinker space, a large computer lab and art classroom. Their tuition is very affordable (compared to the other South Bay private Christian schools) and we were happy to fulfill more than the requested amount of parent volunteer hours to support the school. Pac Lu's goal is to mentor students from 6th-12th grade and they love when families will stay for the long run. Even though our family couldn't stay for the long run, but we still hold Pac Lu and the people we met there very dear in our hearts.

The teachers are extremely nice in the program and fun. My main issue was 2 teachers who where very inappropriate with students either on purpose or on accident. One (by first name bases) Mr. R touched a kid slightly inappropriately and the other (also by first name bases) Mr.T has been reported for being weird with younger girls. Overall the experience was nice but the situation with mr.B was really out of pocket he was just trying to do a concert, something nice for students. A little too strict on rules honestly would tone it down a bit (crocs aren't much of an issue, Would suggest to lighten up on that rule). Getting rid of lockers would give so much needed space. Would recommend kids in the same Pe periods to be more separate during changing. And finally Rest in peace Mr. Williams.

The teachers there don't teach anything, everything students "learn" from are the learning platforms like IReady and IXL. IReady does not teach anything. IXL is an okay platform, otherwise it sucks.

Something we had never experienced before. It ended up being one of the best decisions we could have made. At ECMSG, the Dean and his team did an incredible job holding my son accountable for his negative behavior while also recognizing and reinforcing his positive efforts. That balance truly helped him get back on track. Because the school is smaller, there is much more individual attention and staff really pay attention to the details. The supervision staff genuinely care about the students and build healthy, supportive relationships with them. On days when my son wasn't feeling his best, he could easily request a check-in with the counseling team, which made a huge difference. The office staff is always warm and welcoming. They consistently go above and beyond their job descriptions. The school also provides strong support for parents by clearly explaining the grading system and offering tutoring to help students stay on top of missing assignments. The Special Education department is patient, accommodating, and incredibly supportive. The Principal is highly involved not only with the students, but with the surrounding community as well. He builds meaningful relationships with the kids and truly listens to parents. He has an open-door policy and never makes you feel like your concerns aren't important, which was very different from our previous experience. Their outdoor education program is another highlight. The students learn hands-on skills and how to solve real-world problems in meaningful ways and we get invited to come hear the kids present on their learning. I am extremely pleased with our experience and highly recommend ECMSG to any family looking for a smaller, supportive school environment where students are truly seen and supported.

I especially appreciate how involved the principal is in everything happening on campus. What stands out the most to me is the strong support system and the clear communication the school provides to both students and parents. We are very grateful to be part of this community.

However, for many reading this have probably watched (let alone heard of) the hit FOX TV drama "Beverly Hills 90210" that aired from 1990-2000. This takes me to "Torrance High School"; you heard that right, the school grounds were actually filmed in Torrance and not in Beverly Hills. And for those wondering, this was also the filming location of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" amongst other various TV shows and movies due to its close proximity to Hollywood. Since I was in this area for a private family event, this was not out of the way for my lady and I. The actual location of this school is at 2200 W. Carson St. in Torrance that happens to be in a relatively quiet and less congested area. It is tucked in between Crenshaw Blvd. and Western Ave. while the major freeways (the 405 and 110) are about a 5-7 minute drive away. Since we visited the school campus in the summer (on Friday 7/26/2024) as well as after hours (at around 6:30pm), there were no classes in session. I must confess, after watching the show, the campus has not changed much over the years and am guessing that the entire structure of the buildings have remain intact ever since being constructed back in the mid-late 1940's. I also had the opportunity to peek through the windows of some of the classrooms and I can tell they've kept a lot of the same desks intact for several decades. Finally, the outside courtyard area looks exactly the same as where the kids from 90210 once stood during their recess. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised with checking out "Torrance High School". The layout of the entire campus is quite large as the school can accommodate an average of 2,000 students during a normal school year (grades 9-12). And to all of you Gen-X'ers that were obsessed with this show, you will definitely not be disappointed. Just don't visit during when school is in session. Otherwise, I highly recommend checking this place out. My rating, an above average four stars.
