When Art Nook started offering evening adult classes, I was the first person to sign up! Taking art to the next level, students are guided through learning a variety of methodologies: acrylic, pastels, colored pencil, watercolor... Classes are again designed for all experience levels, with specific projects in mind and 2-4 week timeframes, depending on the project. Learning how to "art" at Art Nook is amazing. It can be a fun night out, or you can make it completely immersive by joining the ongoing classes. The staff is great with all age groups and ability levels. There are plenty of options for walk ins. Canvas, ceramics, wood items. Since it was not an instructor led project we were given detailed instructions that were very easy to follow. The staff set up our area with the canvases we selected and one ceramic project. All the supplies were laid out as well. We had plenty of room to work and chat. My kids joined me: ages 15 and 11 Our artwork did not turn out like the sample, but made for some great laughs and excellent memories. Somehow my beach scene took on the resemblance of a frog or some creature. who knew making a shadow on the water would be so hard. I look forward to visiting again. The class was pretty full. We painted a beach scene with the artist painting the pic being viewable via TV. That was different but welcomed. You can bring your own wine and snacks. We had wine, cheese and crackers. It was really fun! They selected a few folks from a gameplay and they won pictures. Those celebrating were brought on the stage and were given gifts! Every style, medium, and vantage point you can think of (or not know about) is here. It welcomes you via the front windows and swaddles you as you walk further in. And the team here are some of the friendlist folks you will meet downtown. And recommendations? They have plenty. They've been there for over two decades so they know a thing or two. Of course they can give you background information on each of the artists' whose work is in the shop and sometimes even some insight on the piece itself. But I also want to highlight a aspect of AOB that I constantly make use of; framing. Once you make it to the back (after joyful hours of looking at everything while en route), you will see a workshop area. There one or two team members will always be hard at work (though never too busy to answer questions). I have brought quite a number of posters, prints, and paintings over the years in search of their guidance in what frame to choose, how to frame it (matte/no matte/thickness of-color-etc.), and even the optimum glass. And every time they have come through. When I ask them to push me out of my comfort zone (aka, solid color frames), they did and my piece was the better for it. Their presence and their services are invaluable to downtown and our community. If you haven't been, or if it's been more than a week, I recommend you stop in soon. You can thank me later.
