Gayle and I had arrived at the Pacific Central Station on Via Canadian Train #1. After retrieving our luggage, we walked outside just when Cab was dropping off a fare. We hopped in and asked to go to the Vancouver Hilton. The first odd thing was that after repeating the address several times, it was clear that he didn't know where the Hotel was. He then asked if Gayle would map it out on her phone, which she did. The ride then consisted of the Apple Maps voice (from her phone) guiding the driver to the Hilton. The second thing is that he declined to take our credit card and asked for cash. Leaving a cruise ship at Canada Place, we needed a taxi to the Hilton Burnaby. The 3 of us had 10 suitcases, 4 backpacks and a wheelchair. The porter in the terminal took us to the taxi line, we were assigned to. Vancouver Taxi Van. The driver loaded the luggage and put the wheelchair in the back of the taxi. As we were leaving Canada Place the driver said it was cash only and that the flat fee was $68 US ( which is $94 Canadian). That contradicted the posted signs within the cab. I told the driver I didn't have that amount of cash. The driver said that whether we had Canadian or US currency, it was $68. Given that the exchange rate is $1 US is $1.38 CDN, I knew this was highway robbery. $68 US is $93 Canadian. That's twice the price we paid with a competitor's taxi on the trip from the Hilton to the Canada Place two weeks prior. When I complained about the price the driver said it takes 7 to 8 weeks to get paid when passengers pay with a credit card. He also said that the banks charge fees for currency conversion and they have to pay taxes too. I disagreed with him. There was no further discussion in the taxi. When we reached the hotel the driver unloaded all our bags. I waited by the hotel entrance with the only cash I had, $70 US. As I handed it to the driver I told him I needed a receipt. He looked surprised. He filled in a card with the $68, his first name and his taxi number. I had also taken a photo of the taxi number. In hindsight it was odd that the taxi driver hadn't posted his photo ID on the dash and his dash cam wasn't on. After checking into the hotel I called Vancouver Taxi to share my experience. The person who took my call listened patiently, explained that their policy is that passengers can pay by credit card or cash, it's their choice. He also replied that this was a management problem and he would transfer me to management. The next person on the phone listened patiently, asked me a couple of questions about the driver, then told me she would talk with the driver. She then asked me how much money I'd like refunded to my credit card. This was a pleasant surprise. We agreed on a $ amount for the credit, which was against my credit card same day.While I'll take one of their competitor's taxis in the future, I know I have recourse if another Vancouver taxi driver does this again. read more

I flew into YVR on May 1st, 2023 and took a Vancouver Taxi cab at the airport cab loop for a short ride to my vehicle which was parked 10 minutes away. The fair should have been a flat rate of $22 but the cab driver charged me $30 and insisted on a cash payment with no receipt. I tried calling Vancouver Taxi to report the incident and was unable to reach anyone from management and got no call back after leaving a message. This company is in the business of robbing their customers and I would highly advise against using them. read more

If I can give them ZERO STARS, I would. Let's see where do I start off. A few months ago I called for a pickup and waited almost 30 minutes for a cab. I called a couple times and each time I was told it would be there (10 minutes) and provided me a cab #. The cab finally comes and passes me as I was on a one way street. I called again and said my cab just drove by me. They said they would dispatch another one again. I ended up flagging another taxi. For the amount of time I waited for one I probably could have walked there. Most recently, I grabbed a cab (cab #V7). Wow, I've never been afraid to be in a vehicle until I got into that cab. Thank goodness I wasn't in there too long. The cab stunk and was dirty. In addition, the driver was overly aggressive; honky at vehicles, tailgating vehicles, speeding and weaving in and out of traffic. This cab driver should not have a licence! We called the night before to book a pick up for 8am. That was easy to do no problem. We ended up waking up early so we decided to call them to move our pick up time by an hour. I was on hold for what seemed like forever until someone answered. I asked for an earlier pick up and they sent someone right then. About 5 minutes later they showed up. Our driver was quiet but he drove pretty fast. Which was nice I prefer that then have him running the meter on purpose. Overall it was a good experience no issues other than the long hold time. read more

As others have commented, I would give no stars or minus stars if I could. This past Sunday at 12:30 in the morning, my wife, disabled 91 year old mother-in-law and I had the misfortune of finding ourselves in a Vancouver Taxi cab. The driver made it abundantly clear that he was dissatisfied getting a short fare as we needed to go to the Sandman Hotel to pick up our car. While we gave him the option of taking another fare, he begrudgingly ushered us to his cab/van. He actually wanted my mother-in-law to sit on her walker in the luggage area at the back of the van with no seatbelt! When the van's sliding door didn't close properly, he jumped out of the driver's seat and slammed the door with all the force and indication he could muster. I put our luggage into the vehicle and later took it out. The driver didn't lift a finger. We were very clear about our destination and repeated it to him multiple times. My wife showed him pictures of the hotel and the address on her phone. Yet he ignored us, passing right by the Sandman Hotel entrance with every intention of proceeding to the Sandman Signature Hotel saying: "Most people go to the Sandman Signature." He was, of course, planning to increase the fare by going the greater distance and then coming back again to our desired location (the correct location that he knew about all along). It is exceedingly rare that I would yell at anyone but it was necessary to yell several times before he finally turned back. As he turned into the road leading to the Sandman Hotel he drove right by the parking lot that our car was in with the intention of extending the trip 100 meters or so (again to increase the fare). Again we were abundantly clear where the car was situated but he ignored us. Again I had to yell at him to stop at our car. This driver is a disgrace. He shouldn't be licensed to drive anybody anywhere! Similarly, any company who would employ him is also a disgrace. But there is a silver lining. At long last Uber and Lyft are on the scene in Vancouver and area. read more

That depends, I've witnessed these guys play chicken against oncoming traffic just to avoid one way, I even had one guy focusing so much on his little fare screen he nearly rear ended me and drove into the bike lane on expo Blvd. So, if you are hoping to take a chance that you may not arrive at the destination alive? I called the night before to make a reservation from Mt Pleasant to YVR. I specifically told the dispatcher twice that we had a family of 5. He said "no problem" 15 minutes before our taxi was scheduled to arrive, I called Vancouver Taxi to confirm (Thanks, Yelpers for scaring me enough to do this!). Whoops. "Sorry, we can't take 5. I see that it's listed here on your reservation, but none of our larger vehicles are available". WTF? What's the point of a reservation? People are trying to make plane flights. This is the holiday season. Being late has serious consequences, even more so for those traveling with young children. But again, thanks to all who reviewed (you guys rock!), I scheduled the taxi early enough so that if something flaky happened, and we had to take the bus/train to YVR, we'd have enough time.... which is what we did. If any powers-that-be are reading this - your taxi system is broken. Your reservation system has problems. You appear to have an inventory problem. Booked a wheelchair accessible cab for my dad for Father's Day, didn't show up at the reserved time, called to see where the cab was and the operator was very unhelpful saying he had no cabs available. Called again 15 minutes later and booked a regular after switching wheelchairs to a foldable one. Waited another 15 minutes called again and the operator was very rude, saying he had been calling us and that we weren't answering the phone and he had no more cabs in the area and that we should call Yellow Cabs. All I can say is VERY distrustful. If they could get away with charging someone 3x they would, and this is what one cab driver did. Charged 30 dollars for a 12.50 ride and the person involved was very sick at the time. July 20-23 we travelled to Vancouver, meeting two other couples, to see the town until our cruise ship left for a 7-day Alaska voyage. We had studied several tourist books and maps and visited with the concierge at our hotel, the Marriott Pinnacle, about things to see. He suggested the Gastown Steam Clock and surrounding neighborhood, so we asked for a cab to take us there. We got Vancouver-Taxi V35 driven by Aris. He was a wonderful driver, careful and very knowledgeable about fun places to visit, in addition to the Steam Clock. So we hired him to be our personal guide for the next two hours to take us through Stanley Park. He was most courteous and a safe driver and without him our sight seeing would have been much diminished. We were very fortunate to have lucked out and gotten his cab from the hotel. read more

This driver blew through no fewer than 3 red lights. Nudged his way through a pedestrians crossing. Bitched out loud at someone taking too long to parallel park. 85km/h+ over the Granville Bridge.
