I was a lifelong skeptic of Chiropractic work (mostly based on hearsay). Yes, we have all heard the stories. They are all quacks, they screw you up worse, they want to see you 3 times a week...forever.
My experience at Dr. Brian's office completely debunked those myths. Dr. Brian's goal is to get you functional again and quickly get you to the point where at most you see him quarterly, i.e. appts. scheduled as maintenance just like most people do dental cleanings. And the method he employs, the Gonstead Method, which is described in detail in your first visit, is the least jarring and most gentle of chiropractic methods.
For my situation, 40-some year old male, thin, always active in sports. Just from shifting in bed on morning, I did something to my lower back, and it unleashed horrible sciatic pain that radiated down my left leg (and numbness/tingling down to my heel), that, not matter what I tried (which had worked in the past), ibuprofen, stretching, exercise, ice, rest.....it would not go away. Generally, within 5 minutes of sitting the pain had increased to the point of distraction. After 7 weeks of near constant pain when sitting (and if you work on computer at work, its alot of sitting), I called Dr. Brians office on a Friday and he got me in the very next day.
Suffice it to say, from the minute he adjusted my lower back, whatever was poking my nerve..stopped poking it and my pain diminished by the hour. Within 4-7 days...pain free. I did see him 3-5 times in my first 2 weeks (to ensure body gets used to or in the habit of the new alignment), but stretched it out to 5 weeks within 2 months, and now, I go once every 8-9 weeks for at least the past 2 years. If I did activities that pushed my back (lower/upper/middle back or neck) too hard, I am conveniently able to move up appointment...or conversely, if I am feeling good, I can push off appt for a week or two if not more.
Dr. Brian is professional, attentive, devotes time and provides insights into your specific situation, patiently explains the reasoning behind the spine adjustments, and is always available on an emergency short notice. And I cannot emphasize this enough, his goal is to get you back to feeling good quickly and seeing him only on "as needed" basis or ideally quarterly (in a maintenance type way), NOT to see you multiple times a week or month...perpetually.
These days with my back (or neck), I sense when its time to see him for an adjustment (and you hardly ever wait long, adjustment takes 15 mins), and I know my back is feeling good...you just learn to be able to tell.
I am so glad I went in to see him and that "safety net" of being able to get in to see him on short notice is there. For those of you who suffer back pain, you know how awful it is. I'd give this a chance before considering anything close to invasive surgery or heavy meds like muscle relaxants, pain killers).
