This practice is great -- from the two chiropractors to the front staff -- except for Rani. From my initial exam to the X-ray discovery, she spent not 5mins me, both times rude abrasive and just overall rushing through both meetings like she has somewhere more important to be -- on her phone, not with her patients. As soon as she walked into the room even before my X-ray evaluation began, she started with: I won't have time to answer a lot of questions. Then she spent maybe 3mins rushing over the two X-ray images, refused to go back to compare my old images, and actually said to me: "I don't have time to go over that." To be fair, I was 5mins late to the appt. But then not five minutes later I saw her at the front on her phone looking bored. Wtf? So you don't have time to actually oh I don't know take care of paying patients - you call yourself doctor after all - but have time to be on your phone looking bored at the front desk rather than actually use your degree and helping real people. My treatment recommendation didn't include electrical stimulation, which I really liked and helped a lot, and when I asked her for it she said that's not our recommendation. She tried instead to sell me acupuncture which is apparently what she does so of course given the "care" I saw from her so far, immediately declined. Unfortunate, bc I would like acupuncture as part of treatment just no way in hell I'm letting such a person "treat me" let alone bring sharp objects near me. You couldn't PAY me to let such an uncaring unprofessional clearly disinterested in patients "doctor" to poke me with needles, no thank you. Kind of actually hilarious you had the gall to ask that after your attitude. Dr. Parkin did my adjustment and when I asked for electrical stimulation of course immediately arranged it for me -- bc I don't know, maybe when a patient in pain says something helps with the pain, you should do something crazy, like listen? Their M-F schedule is also quite limited and doesnt align well with mine so btwn Rani and such restrictive schedule, looking for a good chiropractor who can do it all: adjustment acupuncture electrical stimulation and massage without any bad apples souring the whole treatment. read more

I chose Van Ness Chiropractic because they offered acupuncture. This was my third chiropractor since March, and the first to give me any relief from arthritis in my spine and joints. Dr. Parkin did the chiropractic adjustment and my back and neck were much better after the first visit. Dr. Sabri is the acupuncturist and gave me almost complete relief from the pain in my wrist. I'm new patient to Van Ness. I needed immediate access and help due to a severely misaligned SI joint that was causing severe lower back pain, tightness, lack of mobility, as well as an inability to live my normal daily life. I was grateful that they were able to get me into the office for my fist visit immediately. I appreciate that the consult began with X-rays to rule out any serious issues with my discs, etc. which out my mind at ease. The first adjustment along with electrical massage brought some immediate to my pain and tightness. The chiropractor used specific techniques for my specific issues to help ease my problem areas into the adjustment, and he had great success for all 3 visits! I bought a Groupon for a 60 minute massage here. When I called for an appointment one of the massage therapists was out on maternity leave and the other was booked for a few weeks. The receptionist was very patient and thorough and found a time that would work for me. I took this as a good sign that this massage therapist was really good. I wasn't wrong. Janice took time to figure out which areas where bothersome for me and focused on those areas during the session. She was thorough in her questions before the massage began on what I was looking for in this massage and if I had any health issues that would affect my massage, etc. The room was nice and quiet with some soft music playing. I couldn't hear other voices in the office (which is a big annoyance of mine) and so I was able to zone out and relax. Janis has magic hands and that's all you need to know. I am a serial Groupon massage addict. It is the only way I can justify spending money on an unneeded luxury. However, every since I came to Van Ness via Groupon, no other massage, whether stress or chiropractic compares to what I receive from Janis. Though the regular price for a 1 hour massage, $80 is pricey, she is completely amazing. Janis is the only professional who focuses on relieving all the knots in my back and neck. I have been going to chiropractors since I was a child and this office is by far the best! I called and left a message over the weekend requesting a new patient appointment for some time this week and I was surprised to get a call back on a Sunday from Dr Jason. I appreciated that he took the time to call me back ASAP and schedule me Monday morning to be seen since I was in so much discomfort from a car accident. I have never had a Dr reach out on a Sunday and accommodate getting me in so quickly! WOW. Was I happy to find these Dudes. I am slightly disassembled, following a collision where I was stopped in the left-turn, red-arrow, left-turn lane when I got plowed in the rear by someone doing 45. The first thing I heard and felt simultaneously was the BOOM. Then heard the brakes screech. Pretty bad. Anyway. I've been there only twice, but I plan on going there however long my heart is pumping. (The Brain is in awful shape. Not reliable for much other than listening to Frank sing, "Fly Me To The Moon." Yeah. It's pretty bad. Yesterday, following my first appointment (Need someone who understands Chronic Pain? These Dudes are damn good at that! I'm still pumping lots of Adrenalin (That's because my life is SO interesting.) and yesterday, I went on to do everything I had to do, which is a lot! I didn't stop until 10 PM. I was SO tempted to cancel my appointment, but I kind of swung the other way, and decided to go with the flow. I made it. I was 2 million minutes late. The heels of my sneakers are crushed because I cannot function during the Day. Boo! I am a Sorceress. I am an Owl. I am a Vampire! Or I am a something made of other things. But I DID put on a pair of clean socks, just especially, because. Too tired to go to into the rest. Suffice it to say: Not long after my treatment ended - felt really good - when an hour had passed, I discovered I had now turned to Jelly. I became Jelly Betty for the rest of the day. I was TOTALLY wiped out. My system stepped on the brakes with the help of these Dudes. The Healers. Homeopathically inclined, there are ways to manipulate the body to heal, using minimally invasive techniques, and the body itself to heal itself. I'm not going to knock other businesses down, but how I got to Van Ness Chiro was simply out of necessity for an immediate appointment and the lines of communication with the staff at Van Ness Chiro is exceptional which isn't too common these days. Through yelp!, I used the "Request an Appointment" button at FOUR separate nearby chiro offices then waited anxiously AND patiently for the first available one. Van Ness contacted me and gave me a few different options for a first time consult visit. When I called to make the appointment, there was a live voice answering the phone and from that moment, I was so relieved. The admin staff are very kind and upbeat which makes the office visits bearable and fun. I've had very successful outcomes with each visit and each doctor. My consult visit was mind blowing because Dr Rani (who is absolutely amazing w her great humor and polite mannerisms) made sure to explain everything that she was doing before she did it. The medical equipment and technology they have is all in-house which provides convenience. They took xrays of the area that was bothering me to see (in real time!!) what and where needed to be adjusted or worked on versus just laying me on a table and manipulating everything .. which unfortunately happens sometimes at chiro offices. Dr Parkin took the time to go over in full detail what was happening in my xrays and it helped me make sense of the pains I've been feeling. Dr Van Ness makes sure to address your symptoms at each visit and takes the time to properly work on them. All the doctors are very patient and I highly recommend them! He was not attentive to my concerns when I shared them with him (in person and over the phone). He was in fact very rude to me. I am happy that now, over one year after I reviewed his business with my experience, he is very dedicated to addressing patient concerns, his yelp standing, and improving his practice (not necessarily in that order). Dr. Jason and Jeff are kind, compassionate doctors who helped me tremendously when I was experiencing severe back and neck pain after going thru an uncomfortable pregnancy. I sent the office staff an email at 2am in desperation to get in to see the doctor the next day and I had a response 6 hours later that I could come in first thing in morning. Jeff was so patient - especially when my newborn had a meltdown in the office and I nearly did too. He eliminated my back pain. We have talked about everything from being a new mother and breastfeeding to teething and vaccinations. What a wealth of knowledge he has! He has also gently adjusted my son, which has helped him during colds and times of illness. I went for my first appointment today and left before I was seen. This practice claims to be following CDC guidelines, but that's not what I witnessed. The waiting room is small. It only fits four chairs. At one point there were six people waiting and very close together. There was a patient that refused to cover her nose with a mask she reluctantly put on about five minutes after she got there. She completely removed it to chat on her phone. I waited 20 minutes beyond my scheduled appointment time, then decided to wait outside. 10 minutes later I cancelled and left. If the reception area is this casual during a pandemic, I question safety and sanitation procedures in clinical areas. I have no doubt that the doctors are great. They are highly reviewed and I like their approach based on their website. I have to say I didn't feel safe. My veterinarian does a better job managing through covid. It's a shame. read more

Misleading establishment. I went to Van Ness based on the positive reviews. My experience was anything but. I was rushed every time I had an appointment. The exercise guy seems over-worked or under-staffed, and I was supposed to see him weekly, but often was never seen by him. He gave me only very basic stretches. The billing department is a joke. They do not disclose pricing. They wait at least one month to file with insurance. They do not inform you of pricing, deductible, eligibility, and other vital details until after one month of service. They seem to be masters of being able to utilize insurance companies and customers for payment. Service is unpersonable and not clear and transparent. Especially in regards to billing. read more

After weeks of pain in my calf and complete inability to stand on my tip toes in my right leg, I decided to have Dr. Van Ness evaluate my situation and get his feedback. I was very concerned after reading about how many people were suffering similar circumstances on websites related to this injury, only to have surgery and no positive results. After 6 visits to Dr Van Ness, his treatment plan was successful and I now have full range of motion and ability in my right leg to run, bicycle and do all the exercise I previously enjoyed. I've been meaning to write this review for ten years. Seriously. I first went to Van Ness Chiro 10 years ago when I was in my 20's, living downtown and avidly running long distance races such as marathons. One evening I bent down to pick something up that I dropped and as I stood up was in excruciating pain. I couldn't move. I crawled into bed, called out of work and did what most 20 year olds would do. I called my Mom. She lives in the Barrington area. She offered to come pick me up downtown (I couldn't drive. I crawled out of my condo in my pajamas) and took me to Van Ness because she had heard good things about the place. They got me in that next morning and after one treatment They took x-rays and quickly diagnosed that I had slipped a disc and it went into my sciatic nerve. I was functional and walking again after the first visit and after two I was back to normal. Since that first visit, I have moved out of the city and have had four kids. Pregnancy is hard on your body and my propensity to slip discs always seems to happen when I am pregnant. When this happened during each pregnancy I was able to become functional again after 1-2 visits. My most recent episode, which prompted me to write this review, was last week over Thanksgiving. I woke up the day before Thanksgiving, bent down to pick something up and again slipped a disc. I was in more pain than usual and could not walk again. Dr. Van Ness and Dr. Parkin treated me together for two hours that day to get me to a point where I could walk and the pain was tolerable. They both gave me their cell numbers and asked that I text them in case anything got worse. Both doctors agreed that I needed an additional treatment the following day in order to make progress so Thanksgiving morning Dr. Parkin opened the office just to treat me. He then texted me in the days following to check on my pain level. This practice truly cares about their patients and their well-being. They never try to sell you more appointments like the chiropractors at other practices do. They teach you abut your body, what went wrong and what you can do to avoid this happening again. Finally, I have always been able to get in that day which is great when you are in a lot of pain. read more
