(Which I did not tell her on the call). I KNOW when someone cares or is hurrying one away and on to other things. I was impressed by Carmen's patience, ( which says a lot in a busy firm, her candor, willingness to help me and to explain and her services and their low fees. Wow... After consulting with other firms, Carmen was far and away the best for the money. I was also impressed by the knowledge of another CPA, who also took time to listen, but then asked $400 an hour for his 'listening services'. Carmen did not ask for a fee for our introductory call. Wow...again. Carmen, if this wasn't Minnesota (a joke, folks) I would hug you! Thank you. And my business partner, who is female, thanks you. We are truly impressed. Warmth, candor, honesty, competency. What more could one ask of a CPA Firm? When I joked, 'I should send you a Christmas Card, but I can't say that in MN', she said, 'please do. I am not offended by your asking or sending me a Christmas Card'. WOW, WOW, WOW again.... Carmen, you have won us as customers! I am male, my partner is female. At first Mary Lou was very attentive and responded in a reasonable amount of time. Once the house was emptied and listed for sale, communication all but stopped. When asked if we could get updates, she replied saying she was under no obligation to communicate with us as she represented our mother's estate. That may be true legally, but ethically we had a difficult time with that sudden change. We were not kept informed of timelines or given an accountability of our mother's estate. There was cash found in the house, many items that had value and were not provided with documentation of value. As of June 2023 - after sending emails, leaving voicemails with the attorney she works with and threatening to take legal action - we were finally given an account of expenses and assets without any accountability in between. I would not recommend her services because of the lack of transparency, timely communication and multiple excuses given as reasons for not responding or having the report ready. It's been over 3 years, which is unacceptable for a very small estate. For the record - neither me nor my siblings were looking for a payout from our mother's estate. We wanted to hire someone we could trust, which turned out not to be the case.
