Great store to have in Little Rock! They are well known for their fountain pens, they have thousands of ink color, and love their variety of paper. The lady and the young man are very knowledgeable and so helpful! Also they do engravings, I went to go get my husband's watch engraved for Christmas. They were fast! I dropped it off on Thursday and Friday they called me it was ready! The engraving was beautiful! read more

I was on a long road trip to Kansas to visit a friend in hospice when I stopped in Little Rock for the night. I arrived at the store only thirty minutes before closing time. Lisa and Ryan were warm and welcoming, encouraging me to take my time. They went out of their way to make me feel comfortable and unhurried. I bought two pens and an inkwell. Sadly, my friend passed away that evening. I found solace in journaling that night in the hotel. It's refreshing to do business with folks that keep their doors open for stragglers/latecomers and treat them like the first customer of the day. While driving cross country, I was excited to make a detour to Van Ness pen store, as I had made numerous purchases from them, in the past. The owner, Mike Van Ness, came out to where I was looking at inks. I said, "Hi! I came from California and wanted to stop here!" He looked at me, said nothing, turned around, and went to the back of the store. A few minutes later, a woman led me to the back of the store to see some glass ink bottles. Mike sat at a desk and again, I went up to him, stating how I was from California and excited to be at his store! He didn't say a single word, to me. I was so shocked at how rude Mike Van Ness was to me. There's no excuse to be rude like this, to paying customers. Bottom line? There are many other pen stores where Owners / Management are polite and take an interest in customers. For starters, I'd suggest Anderson's Pens, Goulet Pens, and Nibs.com. read more

I ordered ink from here and never received it. The tracking number for USPS says delivered but I never received. Vanness will do nothing to help retrieve it, they will not file a claim with USPS and will not resend. Very poor customer service. I am out $70 that I will never see. read more

I purchased a hard-to-find item through their website. I was delighted that they had an option for Apple Pay through their site- it made the transaction quick and easy. Terrific selection online, and a well-designed website. Shipping was very reasonable and kept me from scooting over to amazon where I would have been gambling that I would get the correct item, and a genuine one. The planner I ordered shipped quickly and arrived before the initial delivery estimate, and was packed carefully with a personal handwritten thank you from the store owner. This will be my first stop for stationery and related purchases in the future. The level of service is fabulous and they have a terrific selection. I live far from Little Rock, so I may never make it in person, but Vanness is where I'll take my business and I imagine the brick-and-mortar store is a delight if I was made to have a great shopping experience after just a couple of clicks on my iPhone. read more

Lisa Vanness just recently connected me to a quality pen knowing that My husband. take lots of notes in his line of work and it has changed his note taking for the better. I've been doing business with Mike and Lisa Vanness for a few years now. I have not had the pleasure of visiting their store in person as all of my purchases have been online. If I am ever in the area, I fully plan to stop in and visit. Mike and Lisa are both very pleasant to deal with. I've also visited with their staff at the Dallas Pen Show. They are lovely folks. Service is top notch. The selection of products that they offer are second to none. Shipping is super quick, accurate, and arrives safely as they do an excellent job at packing my purchases. Well it all started when I first walked in (my first time in the store in order to buy something for someone else) and wasn't even acknowledged or asked if I needed help...even though there were about 4 employees in the front of the store! Then when I approached the counter in order to request the ink I wanted I was meet with a snarky response, I asked for a certain color of ink in a certain brand and the woman replied with a rude comment that went along the lines of "they don't even make those colors...*eye roll*" so I then asked for something comparable to that brand and she then interrupted me to say "well do they want ink or cartridge..." I replied with "well I'm not sure I'm texting them right now and I will see!" She then just turned around/walked away and ignored me. While we were waiting me and my friend proceded to walk around the store, which I may say is a cluttered mess, and when we figured out what the person wanted we approached the counter and we were once again met with a snarky comment about did they finally tell us what we wanted. I replied and said again the colors we wanted and in a bottle she replied saying they had over 1300 colors so she didn't know how she could help us, she said and I quote, "We have people come from all over the country for our ink so I don't know why this person would send you with out knowing what they are talking about, surely they have been here before." I definitely didn't enjoy being talked down upon or her degrading the person I am getting ink for who I might add is an avid fountain pen enthusiast! She also replied with saying us not fully knowing what exact shade of green out of 500 shades was, "Thats just not fair to me." So when we finally decieded on the colors we wanted (without their help) when she went in the back to get our colors we could hear her complaining/talking about us very loudly in the back. She says something along the lines of us not knowing what we want and how rude it was for this person the send us without knowing what they wanted. Then finally I was able to escape this nightmare store and leave me and my friend just sat in the car shocked by the truly terrible way we had just been treated. I understand it can be frustrating to deal with someone who doesn't know what they want but it would have been nice to had the help of a "nationally" renowned store who should be experts in what they sell. Instead of talking down to me or talking bad about a costumer at least wait until they are out of the store. Overall my experience was truly terrible and left me with a bad taste in my mouth about fountain pen ink. read more
