While in Berlin, we really clocked in some tourist steps and it was late, the soup place we wanted had closed, but we were hungry. We saw Vapiano's all over the place, a chain pizza pasta spot. It was bright and bustling, so we picked one to eat at. The place was clean, inviting and a bright spot on a very cold night. We read over the menu (they had english ones), went to the counter to order our salad and pizza. Next, we went to the bar to order the wine and my eye landed on that tiny little passionfruit panna cotta (two favorite foods put together for a heavenly flavor). I loved the decor, the kitchen is open and you can watch as they make your pasta or pizza. My husband and I both ordered a pizza, thin crispy crust, light on the sauce and toppings and just the way I like it, though my husband would have preferred more cheese. A lightly balsamic dressed salad and 2 delicious wines (chianti and malbec) from the well stocked wine list. We enjoyed our evening at Vapiano! read more

This restaurant is in the heart of Berlin. I went here with a friend for the first time. We have heard about this place. When I first arrived through the door, it looks like a really nice, clean Italian restaurant. We went to the host and they provided us with cards which we would use to scan the meal items that we want. There were several stations such as pasta, pizza, dessert, etc. My friend and I went to the pasta station which seemed like the most popular station. It had a pretty long line for a Sunday afternoon. I ordered a beef risotto. The staff cooks the meal right in front of you and use premium ingredients such as homemade pasta. My meal was completed in about 10 minutes. You scan your card and then the meal becomes an expense on your card. After that, I took my tray and ate one of the best risottos I've ever had! I like this place because it is nontraditional, the food seems pretty authentic, and it has a nice Italian atmosphere. The food is also really tasty and well prepared. The only reason I give it 4 stars is because of the wait. It was about 20 minutes in line before we ordered our food. I still highly recommend this place if you're searching for Italian cuisine. read more

One thing I've noticed with Vapiano on my trip to Berlin is that the branches are either excellent or terrible which is a rather big divide in-between the two, to the point I've only been able to hand out either a one or four-star rating to the branches I've visited, sadly this branch is one I'd class as terrible. Vapiano is a rather interesting concept where you get a plastic card, and go to different counters to get your food and pay as you leave. This branch is located on Mittlestr and has two main entrances, one of which is through a slight bridge or tunnel and is rather nice with outdoor seating, the other is the typical street way in, which isn't anything spectacular. When I came into the store, I was told to expect long waits as it was busy, I reluctantly accepted this due to struggling to find gluten free food in Berlin and having walked a good distance with the main purpose of that to find this branch. Having enjoyed a pizza at another Vapiano branch for lunch, I decided to order something different so I ordered a Gluten-Free Spaghetti Bolognese, I was angered to find the format for pasta working out like this: - 2 members of staff working - You order your food - They cook it - You get your food - They serve the next person etc Unlike with pizza, they do not use a pager or anything of that sort meaning one has to stand up to wait instead and hold your place in the queue, meaning you'd then have to join a separate queue for drinks and then possibly any additional food, meaning it could get cold, and due to having to wait in a queue, its frustrating as you can't sit back and relax as one would expect, and by the time you have your food, you might not even get a table. When my food was served, I was angered to find I was served Penne pasta, instead of Spaghetti marked on the menu, as I really don't like penne pasta, and I was under the impression I would have spaghetti, after trying the pasta it tasted awful, it didn't taste fresh it was frozen and the same poor quality was also given to me from the sauce. I tried to return my dish to the kitchen, but the language barrier was hard, the woman didn't seem to believe me or understand and made me bring my full plate of awful food to her to prove I hadn't eaten it, before still refusing to knock it off my bill, I refused to pay and had to fight my ground and spoke to a manager who seemed also a little rude but did reluctantly waive this off my bill, and I left, as I didn't want to waste anymore time with waits as long as I experienced here (half an hour for awful frozen pasta) Quality of food was terrible, and so was service and so was the overall waiting experience, forcing me to stand up and queue and just wait and wait, so I sadly feel this branch is probably the worst branch of Vapiano, of which I visited during my time in Berlin and is indeed worthy of a single one star rating, and with so many branches of Vapiano in Berlin this is probably the worst and becomes Germany's first addition to my "Avoid at all costs" list. read more

Terrible system destroys good food when you enter in cashier had to let exiting customers pay while also giving arriving customers a card to scan. Pure chaos as nobody understands the system. When you make it inside you stand in lines and the cooks explain to each person the card system and everyone complains about the system. When you sit down to eat everyone discussed how awful the card system is. Table to table. Whom ever created the process to order and pay is destroying your business and perception. The decent food is overshadowed by a system that does not function well and your employees detest even more than your customers because they have to explain and apologize to the customers all the work day about it. read more

I happened to arrive in Berlin late and this was one of the few places around my hotel open till later, so I decided to check it out. Having been to the Vapiano in Munich I was expecting a pretty decent experience however, it turned out, not to be so. The saving grace here was the "death by chocolate" dessert at the end and hence, it gets a 3 stars from me. The ambience of this place is really good. High ceilings like many a Berlin restaurants in the Mitte and, nicely decorated interior and good furniture all around. The ambience is intimate and nice. The card and self service concept seems a little out of place, considering the classy interiors. I ordered a Pizza Diavolo and it was ready quickly and, looked fantastic. Unfortunately it lacked flavour and the punch I am used to with this pizza. I had to season it and add chilli oil for it to be ok. The base was soggy and wet and, the edges were chewy and rubbery. Not a good pizza in my opinion. My local pizza delivery in Munich serves better pizza than this. The service was friendly and, the "Death by chocolate" cake slice I had was delicious. I think I would come back here for a drink, cake or coffee. Not sure the food was impressive enough for me to come back for a pizza or other savoury items. read more

This place has a nice vibe. Interior is pretty nice, dimly lit with lights at each table. They also have outside heating in the little interior courtyard. Friendly staff nice place to hang out and grab a bite. When you enter they give you a card then you can grab what you want at each station (they have a station for pizza pasta, salads etc) they also have a full bar. At each station you order you give them the card and then when you exit you give the card to the cashier and pay. Food is really good and made with fresh ingredients. Prices are pretty resonable. Very nice find in a touristy area. read more

I loved this place! We asked a local where we could get the best cheese pizza for our 4 year old and good food for us. The two ladies working behind the counter in the shoppe we were in looked at each other and said in unison, "Vapiano's!" Get the Bruschetta while you decide what else to order. It is totally YUM! My 17 year old ordered the white wine Filet - very, very good. Hubby ordered a shrimp fettuccine Alfredo with spinach - delish!! And I went for the bolognasse pastas with the red sauce with meat - wonderful. My 4 year old adored her pizza. We were all delightfully full. Now, as far as the desserts? Skip those. Wow, where to start......... Ive tried Vapiano Before that time in Stockholm and i cant really understand the Buzz and why these joints seem to get packed with people. We arrived and where told to try to get a table on the top floor. After some browsing we finally landed a table, yehaaaa! I went to the bar to order the Bellini out of the drinklist and where told there where no peaches at that time of the year. Ok so i tried another drink, Hugo that they recomended. While one of the barstaff went to get some Prosecco (they where out of Prosecco in the bar) i asked for a couple of glasses of the Shiraz. Bartender told me they where out so i asked for the Shiraz- Cabernet and he told me they didnt have that one either!? What do you got i asked? He replied "Everything" (maybe we had different idea about the meaning of the word) so i tried again with the Cabarnet Sauvignon wich they actaully had in the bar! Another Yehaaa my friends! After the pre-food drink it was time to go and stand in line (as you do in school). There is one line for appetizers, one for pasta and one for pizza so you better know what you feel like eating before you start queing. We opted for Pasta and where standing in line for a good 25 min or so before ordering. I had the fusilli with basil pesto and added chicken wich was about 4 itsy bitsy tiny pieces of chicken so the dish was still like a vegetarian dish in my book............ When we finally got the food it was "ok" but absolutely nothing more. Prices are not high but i would still consider this place low in value as the food is very simple/basic and nothing special at all. In 4 days in Berlin eating eveything from german food to asian and burgers, this was by far the worst restaurant visit we had. I would not return. read more

This is the only food place that I have ever walked out of without even ordering food. To make my stomach stop growling, I tried ordering a beer, guess how that went. Late at night....looking for some decent food, we found Vapianos. Freshly made Italian food made right in front of you. It does take a little while for them to make it but hey it's fresh, can't complain. They even have the pasta in small bags in a refrigerator right behind the cooks. You order what you want and away the cooks go...making the food to your specifications. read more

Unfriendly service, food was ok but nothing special. My wife asked the cook (in a nice way!) if they have gnocchi because she wanted to eat something made of potatoes, and he told her in a very cynical and condescending way that "if you want potatoes go to a wirtshaus" (the implication being that she is somewhat of an unwashed peasant trying to order that). The funny thing is that you can see the ingredients because of the way the restaurant works and he had a bunch of peeled and sliced potatoes at the other end of the counter. Salats were good but pasta merely ok. Prices are high for Berlin standard but probably not for this particular part of town. read more

I'm a pizza connoisseur..and I had the shrimp pizza . It was okay. I think their pizza crust is too thin. I like thin crust, but this was paper thin..so they didnt put enough sauce for my liking. This place is a hidden wonderment. Its amazing. For its location you'd expect that it would be bad. [Near the touristy section of Unter Der Linden]. Its not. its amazing. The atmosphere [upper floor, bar area, main dinning area, and outside] are clean and attractive. They have a very usable card system. [Charlotte fails at this] The POS they use to punch in the order is right infront of the person at height level. To confirm your order you put the card infront of you. The food is well cooked, and is delicious. The only downside to this place is the lines. Another benefit. They accept non-chipped Visa cards. [Apparently its getting difficult to use a visa card in berlin these days] Also, the after dinner treat is gummy bears. This is odd but hey I'm not complaining. I went with a large group of people and our food had already been ordered for us. We had pasta with ham and tomato sauce. I really enjoyed it. Dessert was ice cream with strawberry sauce. We've been to plenty other Vapiano while in Germany for 4 months... But this one is just not good. The dishes should always look and taste the same. The pine nuts in my wife pesto pasta were burnt. Decent food, catastrophic service. Only go there if you have 90 minutes to while away and are willing to stand in line for 45 minutes and watch food being cooked for other people. If you are going with friends, expect to not be talking to them (you'll be standing in line, or half of you will be eating while the others are waiting for their food or already done) - We went there 5 June 2017, four of us ordered pizza simultaneously, one of us ordered a pizza two minutes later, and one of us went to the pasta counters. Of the four pizzas, two were ready in about 30 minutes. The one pizza ordered later was ready at the same time. The other two pizzas that were part of the first four-pizza order took an extra 20+ minutes and then required another five-minute wait in line while the staff were busy preparing other pizzas for the oven - the ready-to-be-picked-up pizzas were just lined up behind them and waiting. (Complaining twice made no difference.) - Each of the approximately 8 pasta counters had about 5 people lined up. The problem is that one never knows if each of the 5 people in front of you are ordering one meal, or 5 meals each. We ended up having three pizza eaters line up in front of the pasta counters, in addition to our one pasta eater, for one pasta order, because nobody can predict which line takes 2 hours and which line takes 10 minutes. Horrifically bad organization: it would be easy to have one line for all pasta counters, and the next available chef calling for the next person in line. read more
