Nothing bad to say about the staff as all has been well....but their billing practices are very shady. Be very aware of what you are signing and check with your insurance BEFORE signing anything. They very unethically slip in charges under the 'treatment fee' that they don't disclose and that are not covered by insurance. Even though the contract you sign may say it's an "estimate" you are still on the hook for paying those charges they've cleverly disguised. This applies to patients like me who have insurance that guarantees set rates and may feel confident in the paperwork they sign. Those hidden charges are in essence negating most of the discount your insurance provides. PLEASE get a predetermination from your insurance provider before agreeing to any procedure or signing anything! read more

I can't thank them enough on an awesome experience my kids had at Varone Orthodontics. The staff was great answered all my questions and concerns,Dr.Varone went over all treatment options with me. Both my son and daughter had braces and now have a wonderful smile!  Best of all was that they used a 3d scan instead of taking impressions! They sure loved that part, when they got scanned for retainers.  Of course they went over instructions on how to take care of your retainers and how to wear them to maintain that beautiful smile. read more

Varone and Moricz were not friendly. On my last visit after checking my mouth she simply walked away from my chair. Not even a thank you or anything. I paid my monthly bills on time and even had a treatment for the upper and lower teeth for faster moving...they didn't care. The bottom invisaline came in without the last tooth being covered and the assistant said that tooth should be extracted! No way, I said. A healthy tooth should not be extracted. The doctor overheard me and told the assistant to make a new bottom tray! There are other offices in this area and I suggest you use some other practice. read more

We have had pretty much the worst dental experience with Varone orthodontics. My 11 year old daughter was the patient and saw them a total of 4 times. Every single time there was an issue with the braces, 3 out of 4 times one or more of the brackets popped off or became exceptionally loose within a day or two of the appointment, 4 out of 4 times a section of wire popped loose, the last time a 2 inch long section. She was jabbed in the cheek 2 or 3 times one time causing a minor injury. This became such an issue that my wife started carrying small wire cutters around wherever she went in case a section had to be cut until we could get her in to have them fix it, and screw it up in a different area. Now my wife is a diligent and health conscious woman and I am a doctor of chinese medicine, so patient compliance with dietary cautions was not an issue. Every time my wife would inform them, and every time they had an excuse. After the second time I began calling the office to demand an explanation, leaving a goal of 3-5 messages, all were not returned. Finally , after the several inches of wire popped out, I reached the front desk staff, and it began. I explained to them what was going on and that I had left several messages that were unanswered. I even apologized that I was going to sound irate but after being ignored for so long, to which they responded that they had not received an messages at all( this is a theme with them as you will see). Then they kept putting me on hold, and them coming back with comments like" a little poking is normal" at that point I stopped the front desk lady and explained the difference between poking and inches of wire popping loose and stabbing my daughter in the cheek. She then asked why we hadn't informed them, I stated that my wife had informed them every time, and she told me they had no record of that, I responded then they had failed to document and said it's not like my wife is lying, she then raised her voice and said well it's not our doctors who are liars, then transferred me to someone else without a word. The other front desk lady was more polite but by then I was telling her how if this wasn't addressed properly my next calls were to the American Dental Association(and I probably will still reach out to them) and maybe a malpractice lawyer. She told me that they would have the office manager call me back. And later in the day she did, I believe her name was Brenda(I could be wrong)and she was the only one with a professional manner I dealt with. I told her everything and what the front desk had said about there being no documentation about any of the incidents. To which she replied that she had the records right in front of her and it had all been documented. So not only had they acknowledged the issue and failed to address it but the front desk staff had blatantly lied, which leads me to believe that the not receiving any messages was a lie as well. I told her this and about the front desks insinuations that my wife was lying, to her credit she promised to look into it. She then offered that Icould receive a full refund or they could attempt to address the issue. I pointed out two things, one with the lack of any semblance of professionalism at the front desk and with the number of times they had failed to get it right why would I be inclined to trust them. She said they would have someone make sure it was done right, to which I replied with a question about them having a competent team and an incompetent one, do they use the good ones only when they get it wrong? She said of course not , but informed me that they do often train new practitioners or they have a concern that perhaps they have been using a faulty product. I let her know that I didn't really have a reason to trust them so I would prefer a refund and to find a different orthodontist. She informed me that she would talk to dr. Varone and that they would get back to me. Later that day Dr. Varone called and it was one of the most unprofessional calls, she was incredibly defensive, and wouldn't stop bringing up her concerns about my threats of legal action. She then kept saying things like if you want to be angry or you just want to be angry. I tried in vain to explain to her that, the first time I called I wasn't, nor the second, getting there by the third, then when I was lied to and my wife was basically insulted, that's when I was angry(though at no moment did I yell or start cursing), and again that I wanted to be angry, failing to take in account any fault of her staff or the issue of my daughters terrible experiences. So I said you are insinuating that my anger is inappropriate , she became very irate and said she never said that(I know that's why I said insinuating)and then told me how now she understood why her staff was so confused because I was putting words in peoples mouths(so obviously I caused her staff to lie). Totally unprofessional front desk and staff- the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing. When we started here 6 months ago it was smooth and now that the front desk gal Padrea (spelling?) left the Bee Ridge location is a hot mess. My son hates his visits and his brackets fall off constantly- makes no sense as he has a limited diet due to numerous food allergies. The assistants and dr will not even discuss with you and just assume they are right- UGH! Seriously- go elsewhere as we are with our other child who needs braces as well. As a second timer for braces I was not looking forward to this visit. What a fun professional office!! I love the environment as all the staff are MVPs and part of a team as they wear team jerseys. I would strongly not recommend Moricz and Varone Orthodontics, for orthodontic treatment. I went to them years ago and I do not know how they are able to still practice orthodontics, which is beyond me. I believe they must have some connections with the Florida Board of Dentistry, which allow them to keep practicing. I would strongly advise anyone considering hiring an orthodontist, to steer clear of Moricz and Varone. There are several outstanding Orthodontic offices in the same vicinity. read more

Yes, very good with the Patient, but no idea how to include the other parent ( in this case, the Father). I even complained last time about the consultation only with the Patient and Mother, when I was physically present in the office during the complete appointment. Today, more of the same and when I mentioned it to the receptionist staff person, her response is 'oh, you could have just walked back into the treatment room anytime'. Office needs etiquette lesson and protocol to learn that there are often two parents who want to celebrate and parent a child. read more

Absolute terrible experience. Neither are too smart and their bedside manner is atrocious. Daughter had to get braces after wearing invisalign for almost 2 years which they recommended. Got retainer wrong twice. Practice and treatment is outdated (molds vs. digital). Go elsewhere! read more

Terrible experience for my daughter, scared her to death, felt very rushed, did not explain options very well, just assumed I would obey their recommendation of extracting perfectly good teeth in order to start orthodontics. Had my daughter scheduled for extraction appointment before I questioned why extract perfectly good teeth? Gave me annoyed attitude when noticed I was not just going to sit there and listen to them and showed more annoyance when I was asking questions. If I would of obeyed these morons my daughters face shape would of been altered, thank god I have a mind of my own and always question so called medical experts and always do the responsible thing as a good parent and get a second opinion. Her current orthodontist is amazing, thought removing teeth was absolutely absurd, explained that would of changed the shape of her chin resulting in a noticeable change in her profile. Also heard of other parents who have felt pressured into quick decisions from these two, be wary of people like these two who seem to think their word should not be questioned and you should follow all orders like brainless idiots. read more
