Varsity tutors is exactly what I was looking for. My son's tutor, Sara is an expert in her field and it shows. I wanted a tutor to reinforce my son's reading comprehension and to advance his math skills past his current grade level (3rd grade). I love the fact that the service has the ability to recruit exceptional talent because they use tutors nationwide. I also like the fact it is hands off for me, but allows me to view videos of the session (or even join the session if desired). I highly recommend the Varsity Tutors. read more

I'm writing this to make other parents aware of a frustrating experience we had with Varsity Tutors. We were looking for a very specific SAT tutor for our daughter and Varsity Tutors led us to believe that they had that tutor in their network. So we signed up for a package of 16 hours per month at a cost of $989.10. However, the tutor they assigned was not the tutor we were searching for, and unfortunately the person assigned was not qualified--our daughter actually had to correct him during the session. After using only one hour, we contacted Varsity Tutors to request a refund for the remaining 15 unused hours. That's when we were told that their "Buyer's Remorse" period had expired. This was the first time we heard this policy existed. At no point during enrollment did anyone mention a 24-hour buyer's remorse window. We even offered a compromise: They could keep 50% of the payment, even though we used just one hour out of sixteen. They still said no. Parents deserve transparency when choosing support for their children's education. Unfortunately, Varsity Tutors relies on unclear advertising, assigns suboptimal tutors, and enforces refund policies they never disclose. Buyer Beware. read more

Beware of hidden fees and poor service! My son enrolled in classes with this company, and we were clearly told we'd only be charged for the number of classes he received--no mention of a membership fee. He completed his last class in April, yet we were charged again in May despite receiving no services. When I contacted them, they claimed it was a membership fee and refused a refund--even though this fee was never disclosed upfront. To make matters worse, one month they charged me $50 more than usual, which makes no sense if it's a flat "membership" fee. The tutor assigned to my son frequently canceled or rescheduled, which made it hard to maintain any consistent progress. This company has been unprofessional, misleading, and unreliable. If you're looking for a transparent, quality tutoring service, I strongly recommend going elsewhere. read more

Enrolled for conversational Spanish. It was a complete clown show. It was a very poor experience. I had two 1 hour sessions that were very unsatisfactory then I was canceled by them. They refused to reimburse me and only offered additional sessions as compensation. I suggest you do not use Varsity Tutors. read more

As for tutors, we had a positive experience. They were knowledgeable and flexible with our schedule. The worst part is Varsity Tutor's website, specifically Account Settings. Apparently, one can add and save credits cards but one cannot edit or remove them. If you want your cards removed, they have to submit a ticket and they cannot even do anything for you on the phone. "Fun" fact, they ended up charging me after we submitted cancellation. Apologized and promised a refund within 7 days and I'm yet to see my money back. read more

Terrible experience. My daughter had ONE SESSION and of course we had to give them a CC... they billed us $600.00 and would NOT return the money. They said we signed a contract WHICH WE DOD NOT! They could t provide the "contract" and would not give back the money. AWFUL! I would never recommend! read more

It is a trap. You have to pay for the tutors and a monthly $199 subscription. They make it very hard to take your credit card off file. I believe it is more cost effective and less of a hassle to find your own tutor. This is a very scammy service. read more

The tutors at Varsity Tutors are great! Helga who worked with my brother with ASD was AMAZING and truly the perfect person to help him pass his college-level science class. She helped him create outlines for the class and taught him HOW to study for the exams. This is crucial for a boy who has trouble comprehending what to study. She went above and beyond and took her role very seriously. Victoria who helped me through graduate level stats was incredible! She is so encouraging and sweet, came prepared and always very professional. It was obvious she enjoyed teaching and became excited when my nonmathematical brain understood statistical concepts. I wish the cost was a little lower - unless you have the means to pay $900-1200/semester this is quite a bit of money. However if you think about having to retake a class (because you didnt receive help and failed) it all works out. read more

Varsity tutors have been a dream come true! What a fantastic company this is! I can't say enough good about Varsity Tutors! My son Eric Alexander A. Blake was having a difficult time with his classes ( He is a home learner and I was not able to teach him anything this year.) when I became desperate to find him tutors for his STAAR exam. He is 15 going on 16. I could not have imagined that he could have gotten an 97% in ALL of Texas with his Math and a now we are going for his History and his Science tutoring. They gave us the best tutors and all the tutors so far have gone to there utmost best to teach Alexander how to take the test and what he is suppose to know. We've used Varsity Tutors at this location weekly for 6 months thus far. Before that, we used Varsity Tutors at an out-of-state location weekly for a year. It has been such an exceptional experience. The tutors are qualified, experienced, professional, warm and friendly. It is a tremendous resource and our children love having the tutor come to our home as opposed to gathering materials to take out of the home. Our childrens' confidence and proficiency in the respective academic subject in which they've been tutored have soared greatly. read more

We worked with Varsity Tutors my son's senior year in high school. Varsity Tutors was integral in passing all his AP courses. Our son started OU this fall and with his high AP scores he had 32 hours that transferred. This spring he is ranked as a sophomore and made the Fall Presidents list with a 4.0. The $1500 we spent on tutors has saved us $20,000 this school year. The overall best tutor we had was a senior at Northwestern University. At all times, he was professional, provided clear instructions and ensured our son understood the lessons. Varsity Tutors was a huge help to me in my preparation for the GMAT and GRE. Varsity Tudors in the Dallas area provided excellent customer service and tudors for the classes my child needed assistance with. Her Spanish grade improved 2-3 grades from before. They provide one on one attention and assistance. We did in house tutoring in Spanish. They are a little pricey but worth the money to see your child's be happy they are passing a class that they were struggling with. read more

I am here to warn you of pricing schemes and ridiculously devious policies. The tutoring is ok at its best. I am a grad student and was seeking help in a course I have never taken before. Since this was my first exposure to this material I was hoping for an expert to help me this fall semester. They first could not find an adequate tutor as all the ones provided had only a bachelors degree. It makes sense to me that graduate course work would require a graduate level understanding to tutor me. The one provided gave me notes found online and YouTube videos to review. I could tell that some of the topics she was completely unaware off and I was basically spending tutor time looking through my notes. They offered some online tutors to help and those were better as they choose you. I had two thirty minute sessions that were indeed beneficial. However there were 3 other times where I was being charged for online time when a tutor was not present. There is a clock that starts immediately as you connect and those 3 times all I could hear was the tutor in the background watching tv. Talking to their company an even ordering food. This service is overpriced and I didn't even use the hours they charged me for. I tried to get a refund and they refused. They sign you up and calculate hours needed for the contract. Only to find that they are useless halfway through. Do not use these people. Find a tutor on campus or your own YouTube videos. If they are charging 1/3 of the price for the actual class then they better provide a quality service. Look elsewhere trust me. read more

One of the worst experiences ever. Watch out for false promises. I spent 45 minutes on the phone with Varsity Tutors for Fort Worth (and surrounding areas) being promised an experienced ACT private tutor for my daughter's next ACT test 5 weeks away. I was told that raising her score 2 points was "very doable." I was told they had several tutors in my area to choose from. Everything sounded very encouraging--she said that they are a national company with offices in many cities. I was told they have very experienced tutors who had been through a rigorous weeding out process. Got a rushed sales job, and paid over $1,600 the next day for 24 hours of tutoring. They waited a week to call and tell me they only had one possible tutor available in my area and he could only offer 6-8 hours of tutoring before the test. This is not a professional operation. Turns out they do not have many tutors available in my city and the rep I spoke with is not really familiar with Fort Worth at all. I asked for a full refund, which I expect to receive one way or another. But, the worst thing is that my daughter really needed help. She was to start tutoring in 2 days. Now, she will not get any help because I trusted them to perform the terms of the contract I signed. Beware. read more
