Came here to pick up barberries which couldn't be located at Buford FM nor H-mart. ++ Found this small middle eastern grocer to be well organized and run by a friendly proprietor. Many choices of flat breads, Persian, middle eastern and Indian goods are found here. Noticed an interesting tea selection as well. Oddly their Yelp page had no pics so I added some :). + Their prices seem reasonable but slightly higher than Nazareth. ++ Parking is shared and plenty. Surprisingly, this Persian grocer is located next to Aldi in a bigger shopping center. This independently owned friendly grocer is worthy of revisits for hard to find middle eastern recipes! read more

Tucked away in a small strip mall next to Aldi is a real gem. There are lots of choices for fresh bread. I'm still trying all of the different feta brands. So many yummy spices and teas. I ask a lot of questions every time I go, and I get helpful advice when trying new things. Definitely indulge with a piece of their fresh baklava! read more

Come here for meal prepping. The jarred gormeh sabzi is vegetarian which is perfect. My grandma makes gormeh sabzi and is better not gonna lie but this is still amazing. read more

I scoured the earth to find two ingredients: Preserved lemons and Harissa for my Morcoccan style chicken with preserved lemons and olives in the pressure cooker. Whole Foods had some shushy Italian kind in a tiny jar for $16 for about 2 large lemons cut into quarters and no harissa. I went to Dekalb Farmer's market...no luck. Patel Brothers...no luck. I ended up trying a frozen overnight preserved lemon method and the bitterness of the lemon peel ruined my entire dish because it wasn't like a real preserved lemon at all....sadness. A kind Persian restaurant owner from Falafel Cafe shared his grocery source with me. Thank you kind man because Vatan had everything and more, especially for a small grocery store. They had the small preserved lemons that I needed for about $5, harissa, Sumac, and all the spices and treats you would ever want from a small Middle Eastern grocery store. They have awesome looking breads and lovely little pastries as well. I make my own breads from scratch, including pita, so I didn't try any of them yet. This is off the beaten path from Midtown, but well worth the drive if you require hard to find ingredients for that special dish. This is my go to stop for all things Middle Eastern and Persian. I love the wide selection of spices that are budget friendly which allows you to experiment in the kitchen. The wonderful sweet tooth choices that are pre-made makes it easy to take a treat home for a delight snack. The fresh produce is also not to be missed for it is organic and fresh. read more

Do yourself a favour and leave the commercial store pitta bread on the shelf. Head to this place they have them fresher and some almost the size of car tires. Nothing better to use as a base for thin crust pizza and super prices. CC only if more than five bucks. I like this store, with an extremely friendly staff. Why a 3 star review? Because of their $10 minimum for credit cards. This is a gross violation of their merchant agreement, and just terrible customer service. Fix that, remove some of the expired drinks, and this is a 5 star establishment. read more

I was a return customer.. until today. This store sells expired products. I bought a can of cheese. It was rotten and the store employee/owner wouldn't believe me. This is below the standard of any grocery store I've ever bought from. Store owner talks in a disrespectful way. read more

Although crowded, this is now my favorite Persian/Middle Eastern grocery. Very fair prices compared to others. The selection is packed in there, and maybe not everything under the sun, but definitely good enough. The man working was very helpful, and nice as can be. I imagine he was the owner, but didn't ask. Do you have a hankering for hookahs? a taste for tahini? or a belly in need of Baklava? Then this is the place to go! Vatan specializes in Middle Eastern groceries, and allot of Persian goodies. Go for the Turkish Baklava... I didn't care too much for the Persian Baklava.. Its very spicy and sweet and not like the typical baklava(but my boyfriend loved it!) They have everything from huge bags of basmati rice,kitchen utensils/pots/pans,spice mixes, various middle eastern drinks,dried fruit, and different types of lavash. The owner is very nice and even gave me tips on different things to buy on my next visit. Vatan is a small store but If your looking for some culinary creativity to add to your next meal this would definitely be the place to pick up some new flavorful ingredients. read more

I have been shopping at Vatan for awhile now and I have always had a good experience there. I have always been able to find what was needed. It is a little tight in the store, but with the selection that is to be expected. The only thing which is not up to par is the music which is played is to loud at times, but this can really be overlooked for the amount of time spent in the store. read more

This place is great for not only Middle Eastern groceries but I can find some of my Eastern European favorites without having to drive far. The breads in the back are great and a must try and I love getting inspired here with the selection of haloumi, special oils, teas, preserved foods, spices, and dried fruits. For such a small establishment, they are packed with high quality, nicely priced goods. The owners are lovely people who are passionate about their business and gladly give me recommendations for certain foods when I ask and truly do care. This is a lovely little store definitely worth going into even if you know absolutely nothing about what they sell. I know I didn't when I first walked in but I just kept walking the aisles actually circled several times picked up packages read the ingredients found some things that look super interesting. Their quality is amazing. The couple that run it are the nicest people I've ever met in a store. The bread they have in the back that is baked I used to make flatbread pizza... so good. They had avocado oil and Himalayan sea salt at one point the price was so good I give them as Christmas gifts. And I have to go back I'm missing my orange shortbread cookies with the chocolate sprinkles on top those are my favorite. Check them out if you like olives or nuts they sell them all separate I bought tea there. I bought spices there. They are worth the trip and it's a neat little shopping center you can spend an afternoon in. read more

I called on my way to find out which exit to get to the store. The owner answered the phone and was unfriendly and demanded I look up online. The prices is outrages. The owner was rude, he never greeted us and did not want to be bothered with any questions. We will never go back again The owner has horrible attitude and every thing is way overpriced. read more

What a gem of a find! Clean, well stocked, great prices! I was looking for a teapot and found the perfect one, He brought out all different kinds for me to see. Fresh bread, sweets, huge selection of spices, teas, candy, nuts, dates, teapots, glasses, he's got everything. I just wish I lived closer so I could visit more often. The only cons is it's a small store so there's not much room to maneuver and it was a little hot in there which made it a little uncomfortable. Otherwise, I do love this store! read more

Thank goodness for this store! We just moved in East Cobb which, for all of its advantages, is an area that seriously lacks in international flavor compared to the NE part of the Atlanta area. We only have Krogers and Publixes around and those are only caring mainstream American foods. Granted - we ARE in in the US so that should be fine and fair - except that many things contemporary Americans call food are not real food, but weird things, often tasting like sweet cardboard, dripping with corn-syrup and other horrible chemicals. In my opinion, the mushy wonder-bread most Americans are used to should be literally banned from the shelves. I was desperate for some Bulgarian feta cheese which we use regularly, and some decent pickles (hello chain Grocery stores, how about some Dill pickles that have actual dill in them??). We found them! The sesame flat breads are wonderful too...and we even found garden-grown tomatoes with 99 cents. So please, please don't EVER go out of business because if you do - we're in trouble in this area. We don't have the luxury of so many exotic Farmer's Markets like NE Atlantans have...so have mercy! The store is still a little more out of the way than we would prefer, but it's reachable every two weeks or so. So if anyone is conducting any market research for opening an international grocery store...can you come to the Johnson Ferry - Shallowford corridors?. It is way too WASPY around here and even WASPS could use some de-WASPIFICATION. read more
