Brought my cat in for a yearly check up and it is was almost $300. They insisted on giving him a distemper and rabies shot that he didn't need even though I told them more than once that he didn't need them and telling them to hold off until I got the record. So after paying the bill I called his old vet and got his medical records and went back in to prove they were not needed and told them the bill was to much and all that was said is "I know". No refund or discount offered and no apology. Highly disappointed in them and doubt I will be bringing my cats back to them. read more

We have been with Plainfield for over 40 years and we would never even think of seeking out another animal hospital for our babies. We had to bring our Springer Spaniel in on Monday and unfortunately he was very critical and after Dr. Gilmore, Dotty, Sue & Kate explained things to us we chose to euthanize him because he was going down hill very quickly. He was his normal self on Saturday, got up Sunday and wouldn't eat and it was downhill from then on. It was a difficult decision because we had the option of going to the emergency vet in R.I. For one we can't afford this and I honestly don't feel he would have made it there. Dr. Gilmore DID NOT make us feel like we were bad pet parents, she understood and they all said with this disease there are no guarantees that he would be better. My husband and I feel that we made the right decision to have him euthanized, we brought him home so his dog brother could say goodbye and then he watched where we buried him. Finnegan is grieving his brother and they told me that it would probably take a month for him to feel better. We can't say enough positive things about the staff at Plainfield Animal Hospital. They care about out pets as we do, they also care about us! Huge thank yous to everyone that saw our Cooper on Monday, there is a huge hole in our hearts, that in time will heal. I think that Finnegan will be our last animal and I pray we have this little guy for many, many years. Cooper was gone before his time. He was only 7yrs.4months. They don't like to fill my prescriptions in a timely manner now do to their "new" policy. I called them days on advance and when I call on the day of no body has even looked at it. Also I ordered heartworm meds something my dogs have gotten from them for the last 4 years of their life and they wouldn't give them to me due to their lack of verifying the meds and made me return at another date to retrieve them. read more

I have been taking my dog here since moving to the area in Dec 2013. Staff is always super friendly and kind. The doctors and techs are always super informative and actually listen to my concerns and needs for my girl. We love going here and will continue to do so! read more

We have been taking all of our pets there for a long time. Everyone is very caring and understanding. They take great care of our pets!

I used the company's online coupon for free first visit. It's as if they use these coupons to entrap people after they get there into paying a bundle on medications that the mobile clinic gives for free. First, I got there 15 min early to my appointment and waited one hour before I was seen while others who came after me went in first. Once my one year old kittens were called in, the medical assistant and I were discussing symptoms and the cost of medications, she became incredibly rude once she found out I was using the coupon. I'm a disabled person who has cats to help with anxiety and can't afford the prices of the meds. I own 2 cats and each rabies vaccine is $42. The kittens came from Soth Carolina where my daughter found them in a dumpster at 4 weeks old. She took them to the vet, had them vaccinated for rabies and spayed and neutered. I discussed this with the assistant and explained that they had their vaccines.I was told I needed proof and that it's a state law to have pets vaccinated for rabies otherwise I get reported. I explained that I had no money at this time for medications and can't have them vaccinated. She became irate and rude. Is it a crime for low income households to have pets now in the state of CT? I asked the assistant if only wealthy people can have pets? Her response was "its s state law and I can't do anything about it". There was no attempt at working with me to get my pets vaccinated. The medications they needed to begin with are unaffordable as well. From what I understand, these places have separate funds to assist low income families, why was I different? Back door billing is what I call this. A free exam and then they tack on medications to make up for it. read more

Ive been taking my pets here for years. Recently I have gotten a new puppy and began her care at VCA. Yesterday morning I called because she is limping and needs to be seen. I was told id have to wait until Saturday. Thats 4 days away! She could have a broken leg! I have since called another vet and transferring her care to them, along with my other dog. I do understand that offices are busy but you would think they keep a few spots open for emergencies. Also the front desk could use a little training on how to speak to people. I called to have my pets records faxed over to the new facility and she hung up on me before i even finished speaking! read more

They are wonderful. I have been to many vets across the country (retired military), so I have been to many vets. Let it be known that I have never been slow at firing a vet. After firing my last vet we found this place and I feel that they are the very best. The way the handle intake and outtake are smooth and easy. Their prices are very reasonable. However, for me, it's just extra. There care is great and very thorough. They take their time and don't rush the appointments. The staff is great and caring!!!. read more

I consider ourselves blessed to have found this hospital. No matter what the issue or emergency, they always have time to see you right away. Dr. Picano was incredibly thorough examining my dog from head to tail. I was impressed. After discussing her concerns, the options on the table and answering all our questions, we went with her recommendation. The staff there is extremely caring, professional and answered all our questions about everything. As we left, they reminded us of their weekend hours of operation in case ANYTHING happened and told us not to hesitate to call or just bring our little guy back in. I've never had a veterinary office make us feel so welcomed and invited like that. After experiencing all of this, it feels really great knowing we're in caring loving hands when it comes to the health of our pets. I wish I could give more stars. read more

Update: My dog Snuggie has had a cough (sometimes resulting in fits) going on 2yrs. now. We've brought her to 5 different vets in the past, each giving us different reasons for it (dry air, dry dog food irritating her throat, etc.). When I saw Dr. Apperson at VCA, she Rx'ed an asthma inhaler (Flovent) since Snuggie tested negative for everything else and her lungs showed inflammation on the chest x-ray. Since she's been on this inhaler, her cough/ing fits and wheezing has completely gone away. What an incredible blessing this is to us. I personally called her and thanked her from the bottom of my heart. Recently Snuggie had to have a loose tooth pulled. They sent me a picture of Snuggie in her kennel looking VERY comfortable with soft blankets around her. During the tooth extraction, they noticed she had a bump on her tongue, and since she has a history of mast-cell tumors, these bumps were tested to see if they needed to be removed (luckily they weren't). Not only did they extract the loose tooth, they polished her teeth and applied a sealant to protect them!! When it was time to pick Snuggie up, the vet went over everything with me, and added that she made sure that the pain meds/antibiotic wouldn't interfere with her anti-seizure meds. Today they called us to ask how she was doing. Aside from a little swelling (which is normal), Snuggie is acting like her usual self. Every vet who has seen our dogs there so far have been outstanding and incredibly caring. In the case of Snuggie's coughing fits other vet offices shrugged off and couldn't figure out, Dr. Apperson refused to give up and was tenacious about finding Snuggie relief. This Thanksgiving holiday, I know I am incredibly blessed and thankful we have VCA and all of their doctors and staff. My dogs have never been in better hands. read more
