We recently needed troubleshooting for our home theater system and my husband made numerous attempts to reach someone at Empire for assistance. Calls were not returned and when he did manage to speak with someone about a service appointment, all he could get was "maybe we can stop by on Friday". Not exactly what we expected given the money we initially spent. Needless to say, no one showed up on Friday. We ended up finding another company that not only returned our calls, they sent a tech out a few days later who quickly resolved our issue. Then he went through our system and pointed out some optimizations that, honestly, should have been made during the installation. When you invest in Control4, any updates/changes have to be made through a dealer, so it's extra annoying when the dealer you purchased through no longer wants your business. We look forward to working with our NEW dealer to install additional home automation and home theater components.

Nice work, professional, great customer service. Then... not so much. I called them a couple of years later, following post-storm home renovations (thanks, Gulf Coast weather), to get Wi-Fi working again and re-run Ethernet cables. Over the next couple of weeks, when I'd call to follow up, Kimberley would tell me that "the GM is working on the proposal," but never got return calls. Ghosted. Finally hired an independent IT guy to make the fixes, as well as for some followup reconfigurations on the Wi-Fi gear.

I was really surprised at the professionalism every step of the way. The lady that answered the phone was very kind and knowledgeable about their services and gave me a quote in advance at that time. She also scheduled a time to do it...not a window of time as is the usual for home service visits. And when your garage door won't move your car is either stuck inside or out, so they even offer same day service. Our cars were out so we took the appointment...but the lady called and offered an earlier one if we wanted it.... The service was done by a polite and professional young man (Brian) who took the time to explain the features of the system to me, even though they hadn't put the door in. He replaced the springs methodically but efficiently. The service was a good value. I highly recommend Avallone Door and Iron Works for any garage door work.

The most unethical, fraudulent company I've ever worked with. Installed a speaker system that does…read morenot perform as marketed - I paid almost $6,000 for a whole house wireless speaker system to play music from my iPhone (in addition to the outrageous $3,000+ spent on an alarm and camera system). The speakers DSS installed are not compatible with Apple Music, even though I told the owner Ralph Wallace when he sold me the system that I only listen to Apple Music (he said it worked with Spotify, etc. which prompted me to emphasize that all my music - thousands of dollars of music - is on Apple Music and it's all I listen to. After years of "trying" to fix the problem with unprofessionally rigged-up workarounds, he finally told me definitively that he was not going to make it right. I am suing the company and the owner, but I can never get back the time wasted or make up for the immense frustration on trying to give them the benefit of the doubt and multiple chances to make it right, just so that I can listen to my own music seamlessly at home without static and workarounds that require 3 different systems to all be working and dilute the quality of the sound immensely.

They installed a security system at our business and were told after the installation the external siren did not perform after the alarm was triggered. We were told it was just a setting and could be fixed remotely. Fast forward 16 months and our shop is burglarized. Guess what happened? The siren didn't go off and the burglar was not startled. Get ready, here come the excuses. "Must be a bad siren....panel battery was low...." The siren was wired incorrect all along, too bad our building was broken into before any action was taken on their part. Ralph needs to learn to shut his mouth and open his ears, especially when it comes to an unhappy customer. Be willing to sincerely address the problems, but that's not his mode of operating. Blame game, kick the can and finger point is what he does best. If you really want your home, property, family, valuables etc. kept safe, go with anyone but DSS. Oh yeah, we've also had to pay Nacogdoches Police Department $250 ytd for false alarms. That's $50 per occurrence and they give you 3 freebies. That's 8 false alarms in less than 7 months in 2023. They were very knowledgeable -- quickly narrowed down where the problem likely was instead of guessing, and explained what they were checking and why as they went. Communication was great the whole way through: quick to respond, kept me posted on what they'd tried and what was next, no long silences wondering what was happening.
