I am from out of town and only had a month of availability to work with. I had a bit of prior flying experience, though it had been years since I last flew. I was definitely rusty. I was also struggling to retain the information from the online ground school platforms so I requested ground instruction. Luis assessed where my skill level, and with my instructor Travis, we came up with a plan to work towards my goal. Travis was thorough, organized, patient, and knowledgeable. He was very dedicated to giving me as much ground and flight instruction that I could handle. And he worked with the ambitious time frame I set for us. It was an amazing experience…read more As an educational professional and engineer, I had always wanted to finish the private pilot license that I started when I was in school. I started back up but doing one hour a week with my local instructor I could see it was going to take another year at least. Progress was slow. Looking for an alternative, I got in touch with Jamie. My first step was to finish the written exam myself. I engaged in self study, took a course, created tons of flashcards and did quite well. Then I went out and spent 2 weeks with Jamie. We flew almost every day. Some days were frustrating. Nothing would work. Then a day it would all click, and another day of regression, then it would finally all come together. I passed the checkride on the first attempt. Jamie has a good style for professionals. As an engineer and teacher, I probably had too many questions. I kept asking him how do I know when I'm about to touch the runway? How do I see it? Why isn't there a radar? Why are the instruments so small? etc etc. Of course he showed me all the moves, but he always came back to something along the lines of you just need to do it 300 times. And we'd go up back in the pattern and do it again. And again. I started having nightmares about French Valley airport. But I got it. I would definitely do it again. I haven't flown in a while and I may need to do it again in fact.

I did some training with an instructor in my local area but couldn't quite get the training across…read morethe finish line, so I decided to take some time off work and do nothing but flight school. Jamie was super helpful and flexible in arranging several days where we did nothing but flight training, and I passed my checkride on the first try. He was great at injecting surprises into my training that made me a better pilot. My favorite was when the engine "failed" on takeoff - nobody else had ever done that to me in almost 80 hours of training - and I'm grateful for the knowledge that I can handle any crisis. If I had it to do over again, I'd start off with Fly Accelerated training - just take the time off work and do the training all at once. You'll get it done faster and can broaden your experience with other planes later with local instructors easier than if you are trying to balance your work schedule and flight training and raising kids or whatever else you have on your plate. In the long run you'll save money if you just do it all at once, and Jamie is top-notch.

The school (as of September 2026) has 4 Evektor SportStars (TAA), 2 Evektor Harmonys with 914 UL Turbo engines (TAA, Garmin G3x), 2 Evektor Harmonys with 912 IS Fuel Injected engines (TAA Instrument Trainers with dual Garmin G3X displays and a Garmin GPS 175/GNX 375 Transponder), a Pipstrel Alpha Trainer (TAA with Garmin G5's), a Cessna 172 XP (195HP), an amphbious Icon A5, and a gyroplane. At the time of writing, the SportStars can be rented for as low as 140 and the Harmonys can be rented for 165 an hour. Price assumes a block is purchased. As far as value goes, I think that is about as good as it gets. Also, the Harmonys are literally brand spanking new. They look and feel GREAT. The school used to be located up in North Las Vegas, but now is located in Boulder City at KBVU. Its a good location. The practice area is easily accessible, the area is not tower controlled, and the FBO is located right next to the primary runway for the airfield. Generally, you can go from engine start to up in the air within 5-10 minutes (engine runup included). The airport has an instrument approach, which is good for instrument training and is in a good location to access other airfields in the area for a wide variety of other instrument approaches. It is located in an area that does not require a Class Bravo clearance, but is close enough to do the Bravo airspace to do training in it if desired. For ground facilities, they have a conference room downstairs, and a full classroom upstairs. Wifi is pretty fast (haven't had any issues with it yet), and its a good area for sitting down and getting some studying done. Good capacity in case you want to study with others, but usually quiet enough to study in peace by yourself if desired. In addition, the school makes a good deal of its revenue from its Certified Rotax Maintenece services. Not really my wheelhouse, but I do know that in the almost year that I have been there I have only had 3 flights that have not been able to go due to maintenance issues and the lack of a replacement aircraft. Usually, if a plane goes down for maintenance it is back online within a day (unless the issue at play is parts). All of this is to say, the maintenance team is exceptional. Over all, great place to learn to fly and rent aircraft.

She broke everything down in a way that made it feel approachable without talking down. You're learning and vibing at the same time. This wasn't just a ride -- it was an experience. The views were unreal, and it felt like something out of a movie. Already put my friends on to this. It's one of those things you don't know you need to try until you do it. Also found out they offer community ground classes -- two hours with an instructor breaking down the basics. That's next on my list. The way this team moves? You can tell they care about the full journey, not just the flight time. If you've ever thought about flying, even for fun -- book the discovery flight.
