    it was good but it definitely needs more flavor, I order some noodles and it was pretty much noodles without any veggies.

The…read moremenu looks like a menu from any other Australian cafe, offering things like French toast and polenta and a wide drink selection. The fact that all of it is vegan seems almost incidental. It is as hipster as most non-vegan Brisbane cafes, but by no means intimidating for anyone not wishing to be indoctrinated in a religion or lectured about animal rights. More than perhaps any competitor I've seen thus far, this seems to be the vegan place for non-vegans. All of which is great as far as I'm concerned. The food I ordered came out remarkably well. French toast without eggs is not easy and I've seen it be a tripping point for other cafes, but theirs was creamy and satisfying. It took a decent while for me to receive it, but the carmelized sauce on top sure tasted fresh. The pepper ice cream was presumably coconut-based, but I hardly stopped to think about it as I scarfed the whole dish down. Given that I never liked eggs anyway, I was quite satisfied and gave nary a second thought to its vegan-ness. The only thing I could have asked for was a more generous helping of fruit on top. The potato cake on the side was likewise delicious, and I was glad to have sweet and savory options together. Their menu offered a nice range of things that looked appealing. They still have a few kinks to work out, in my estimation. Their drink menu looked great, but I was asked about ordering from it probably one more time than was necessary. Their recycled wood tables are atmospheric, but I felt like I almost got a splinter on one. Between their website and their actual menu, they still seem to be trying to figure out what their prices are; there was a lot of variation. They will purportedly be open for dinner in the future, which I would really like to see, but at the moment it is a breakfast and lunch place. All told, I would probably back a few more times were my stay in this country not coming to an end, and I hope they are still here when I visit again.

Even the staff at the pizzeria next door were ordering dinner from them. My boyfriend is a regular there and he was keen to introduce me to some of his favourite meals: the golden parcels ($7.50) and the drunken noodle ($13). The golden parcels (deep fried wonton pastry with a filling of ground chicken, water ceshtnut, garlic, and coriander roots) were absolutely delicious, and the drunken noodle (rice noodles fried with garlic, chilli, chicken breast, egg, red capsicum, coriander, and basil) was much healthier than most Thai fried noodle options because it was packed with capsicum and wombok. The staff also threw in a complimentary spicy soup. I'd say My Thai Kitchen makes Thai food with an Australian twist, mainly because of the extra vegetables and the lighter sauces, which is great if you're after something that will make you feel less guilty about ordering take away for dinner. Dining in is a great option as well; there's ample seating space outside, as well as a large, communal dining table inside the restaurant for big groups. There's also a range of Asian groceries on sale for those who are interested in cooking up a storm at home. I was also charmed by a lot of the original My Thai Kitchen dish names; my personal favourites being 'luv a duck' (duck breast) 'one nation - please explain' (barramundi), and 'tax return' (tofu or tiger prawns). Note: My Thai Kitchen is also open for lunch from 12-2pm, Wednesday to Friday.

The menu is appealing, diverse, and vegetarian-friendly (even marked for vegan items). The setting was also quite pleasant and well-decorated. What I tried was the somar tofu curry, which virtually every person who has reviewed any iteration of this restaurant anywhere online seems to recommend. The crowd isn't wrong either; the flavor starts with lemon, but takes a journey to a spicy, sweet, and sour place that isn't quite like anything else I've tried. How a restaurant purporting to be from a mountain region near the equator ends up with a lemon-flavored coconut curry I have no idea, but if they're making it, I'll eat it. That being said, it was hard to sway me off of ordering chickpeas and fried bread, and I may find myself at this or the other location to try some more things soon.

    Thank God for Tibetan Kitchen in Toowong, that's all I can say…read more I've been a big fan of TK for, oh, fifteen years now, since I first discovered their incredible prawn dish, Jhinge Maccha al Raduwa (I'm SURE I spelled that wrong...). Which is still my favourite prawn dish anywhere, and actually until recently the only thing I'd ever ordered here. (Although have heard amazing things about the somar tofu curry and really want to try that next.) But yesterday I was craving Vietnamese pho. Like, CRAVING it. So I got on deliveroo thinking it wouldn't be an issue but... apparently there are hardly any Vietnamese places in Toowong?? And the ones that were delivering were charging $18-$20 for a bowl of noodle soup... WTF?? But then I noticed, luckily, that TK does a dish I'd never tried--thukpa noodle soup, for only $13. They also had calamari, which is what my kid had requested. So we went for it. I was so glad we did. The noodle soup was absolutely delicious. It was fresh, citrusy (lemongrass I think?), and delicious. It seemed very healthy too - kind of a tomato-ey broth with some chicken and rice noodles and herbs. Yum. The calamari was ok. I wouldn't have ordered it if it was me--I never order deepfried dishes for delivery because they always go soggy--but my son enjoyed it. This should really only be a 4.5 star review though. A few things could improve. First, the "raita" that was supposed to come with the calamari was just straight-up mayonnaise. Who would confuse raita with mayo?? Not cool! Second: the soup was packed in the same container as the noodles, which meant that the noodles were getting soggy and overcooked. I would have packed the noodles and fresh herbs separately from the soup broth, so that everything stays perfect: piping hot soup, and perfectly chewy noodles. The soup itself was great, but I found it really, really benefited from the addition of more fresh herbs. Luckily I had some coriander and mint in the fridge, and when I tore these over the bowl and spritzed over some fresh lime, it made the dish about a million times better. I also added the shredded cabbage and carrots that came with the calamari, and that really elevated the whole thing too. The whole dish could really be improved by packing some herbs, shredded cabbage, maybe finely sliced red onion and a lime quarter in a container with the noodles and then packing the broth separately. I reckon if they did that I'd be ordering that soup on a weekly basis. Maybe it could even replace my pho obsession....

Carnivores be warned that except for in some of the Byron Bay pies there is NO MEAT on their menu. There are however lovely fresh options like scrambled tofu, made with a hint of lemon which really goes down a treat, and avocado on sourdough toast with tomato relish and creamed feta - very tasty (almost as good as bacon). There are a selection of freshly made juices and various teas boasting miraculous properties. The coffee is also good (as well as fair-trade and organic). If you are sick of healthy good vibes by the time you finish your meal, you might want to head to the adjoining health supermarket to check out their range of whole grains, natural supplements, cruelty free cosmetics - that kind of jazz. Or you might want go and get some bacon, stat!

I was tempted to order a blended juice or smoothie, but knew we were heading elsewhere for dessert, so we just ordered two items. We had the Crispy Skin Duck Confit with Lychee Red Curry (23) and the Pan Fried Asparagus, Proscuitto, Roast Almonds, and Poached Duck Egg with Hollandaise (18.5). The duck was pretty amazing, as the meat was tender with a crispy skin that left me wanting more! The red curry was a perfect fit for the duck, reminding me of my love for the duck and curry noodles at Noodle Theory in Berkeley, though the cassava was an interesting fit with the curry. Either way, I enjoyed the lychee addition to the traditional curry, and would definitely recommend this new item on their menu. Our other order wasn't bad, as the asparagus was good and the proscuitto was actually one of the better ones that I've had, but it wasn't too interesting. I love poached [duck] eggs, but the hollandaise sauce, which was supposed to be horseradish (I asked), was a bit of a disappointment. The smell of it reminded us of Elmer's glue, and wasn't the most appetizing smell or texture... Overall, I was really satisfied with Anouk, especially with their effort in tweaking the classic breakfast|lunch items, and though it is a bit of a higher end cafe, I would definitely return!

I don't…read moreknow about the old location, but the new one is convenient by all three of Brisbane's major modes of public transit, and also eminently driveable. It tends to be a packed house, full of bad pedestrian behavior but good vendors. The range of sellers here is eclectic and upper crust, even compared to its numerous competitors. They have some very expensive (but very good) bakers, an entire stall devoted to nut milks, a french toast truck, and, at least the last time I went, adoptable greyhounds. They also, for a market of this size, do very well on actual vegetables, including an organic farmer and several other substantial stalls. Indeed, they've got things for all sorts of people; if you want to make ultra-healthy food at home, you can come here for ingredients, and if you want to indulge, you can stop by their fudge stall. People with restrictive diets should be pretty happy; a South American stall offers to cook their breakfast dishes with cactus instead of egg (and their beans are tasty), and a variety of decent options abound. This market is mostly food (though there are a few tents of clothing and other sundries). I would suggest avoiding this place if you are a compulsive spender, as there are a lot of ways for your money to disappear fast. But since I'm self-disciplined (and my exchange rate is favorable), I find it worthwhile to visit.
