Initially, I was afraid to come here because of all the bad reviews. It was my first time taking…read morethe ferry from SF to Oakland, and I didn't have a Clipper card, so I had no choice but to buy an actual ticket. Before I approached, I expected to get chewed out or at least glared at. I've been here twice now with no issues. On my first visit, I got a guy who was really friendly and helpful. He got me my ticket, and even told me which direction to go to and which port I should look for, without me having to ask. The second time, I got a guy who seemed to be in training with the first guy guiding him. The trainee was able to get the job done without a problem. I usually don't give places like this a review, but I felt the need to write up a good one, so others won't be afraid to come here like I had been and give them a shot.

The clerk that was assisting customers was extemely rude and condesending. When we asked a question about transfering a remaining balance from one card to another, he said to contact customer service. Well...isn't that what he was supposed to be? There was another customer behind us that he started helping and when she asked a question, he was equally rude and condesending. I was really surprised a shop that caters to visitors as a tour infomation center would have someone working for them with such poor customer service. I thought that maybe the person was just having a bad day, but after seeing other feedback here, I think this is just the way this shop operates regularly.

With every twist and turn, another staircase or room appears, filled with books and entirely new worlds to discover. It always brings me back to the days I spent with my grandmother at our old library. We would sit together on the stairs and read to each other, completely content to spend hours surrounded by books. I think that's part of why City Lights feels so special to me--it brings back that same sense of curiosity, comfort, and excitement I felt with her. I rarely come here looking for one specific thing. The fun is wandering the shelves until a cover, title, or completely unexpected book catches my attention. Somehow I always leave with another story I can't wait to disappear into. There are bookstores you go to simply to buy a book, and then there are bookstores you experience. City Lights is the latter. It's a little piece of San Francisco that I hope never changes.

The reviews on my works were obvious violations of guidelines, so I reported them and requested for Goodreads to remove my works, which I own under title 17 of the United States Code. They never responded nor addressed those reviews. I experienced it again with my new release, which was never submitted by me on Goodreads. This time, the reviews were even more harmful. I contacted support again and my readers attempted to help me. Their reviews (genuine and detailed) were removed but the trolls were never addressed. I just sent a cease and desist letter to their headquarters, and I will take further legal actions to protect my works but it is appalling that a company can operate with such business practices. I invite any author who was targeted to review them, stand against them and take actions to hold them accountable.

I had to call the credit card company to dispute the charge. Why? I have canceled the subscription several years ago. I haven't received their newspaper after that cancelation. To this date, no newspaper has been delivered to my home. The credit card company sent me a letter, notifying me that the $39 has been credited to my account. Yesterday I received an invoice from the San Francisco Chronicle wanting to charge me $76 with a new paid through date of June 28, 2026. Okay, I don't know why they want to sweat on me for $76 since I did not ask for a renewal subscription and there is no newspaper delivered to my home. I don't want the damn newspaper even if it were free. I will have to call their number (415 777-7000) to pick a bone with them. It looks like they are trying to prey on a senior citizen with their nonsense. Enough said!

Two times, separated by weeks, they were told this thru Chat. They agreed it misstates facts and twice said "IT" would fix it. Yesterday I received another email containing the same apparently deceptive "bargain". Whatever is the motive, the offer makes the price seem far better than it is. Given the effort to ask them to correct this, and their refusal to do so, the obvious conclusion is they choose to intentionally mislead the buyer with a known falsehood to add subscribers. If I am a math idiot, they've had two live opportunities to point that out. A sad commentary on what I believed to be a reputable enterprise.

I saw this free paper, The City Star and gave it a read through…read more Not bad, I thought - and I like their color scheme as it matches my company. *Very seldom used light bulb* I called Benjamin Buggs from the info listed in the paper to see about getting my business an advertising hole. He was very helpful and quick to adjust his conversation with the typical bar, clothing retailer or whatever to understand the needs specific to a 24 hour locksmith service. He gave me a very thorough and very reasonable price list and we hammered out a size and daily run deal. He asked me a few questions and he said that he'd have his graphic arts department look at my web site for design cues and come up with a proposed piece. What they gave me was so near perfect that I only had to make two minor adjustments. For those that don't know - that's incredible. They get it. They very efficiently put all the information that I wanted listed as well as a fairly good print of my bird logo for a great price. All the while, Benjamin was brainstorming and coming up with quality ways to maximize exposure and minimize cost. If you're a business looking to advertise for a good rate - try the Examiner and Daily Star. I could not possibly be happier with the outcome.

Update 5/4/08: I…read morestill think VIZ is awesome, but when I recently tried ordering stuff online, I had the worst time trying to navigate myself through it. Then when I called customer service, the message I got informed me they operate on Eastern Standard Time: meaning they close three hours too early. It's an SF company. Why don't they keep SF time? Minus one star. Original Review: VIZ is an awesome source for manga and anime. It is one of the few places I go when wanting manga and anime. They sell so much stuff that I can't even begin to tell you where to start. Check out their website and you'll know what I mean. Warning: You can only order your stuff by going online or calling. For the love of Akane (please tell me if you get this reference), do not go to their SF HQ. If you do, security will take your photo and place it on a their wall of people who can't read instructions (maybe if the instructions were in manga form they'd alleviate this problem) and then promptly escort you out the door. I'm only kidding about the security bit but maybe they should. Again please don't find out. My appreciation for manga and anime: - started off with Marvel (and some DC) comics: Spiderman will always be my favorite. - someone recommend I read Ranma 1/2 : I never knew a comic, I mean manga (or graphic novel), could be so funny or dare to show boobs. - I started watching anime: Dragon Ball Z, Rurouni Kenshin, Cowboy Bebop, etc. - thank goodness for Cartoon Network. There's this stigma about manga and anime being for kids. But I don't think it's as prevalent today since I've seen a manga section at Borders and an anime section at Fry's Electronics. Another good sign is VIZ is doing so well. And thank goodness since some of the storylines in manga are great: you get romance, character conflict, comedy, and kick ass fight scenes.
