I developed a varicose vein on my left leg when I was 21 years old. My varicose vein got worst, and I could see the bulging vein, not only was the vein bulging, but I started to experience swelling of my left leg more than the right leg, pulling sensation on my left leg, hip, and buttock pain that would radiate to my pelvic region, my leg would be sore most days from prolonged standing and walking all day (I work as an RN). My concern grew from all these symptoms, and of course, I was concerned about the aesthetic part of it too. I went to see a vascular surgeon in Naples, who spent about 5 minutes asking me questions and told me to schedule an appointment for an ultrasound, and left the room. I didn't get a good vibe from this doctor, so I was recommended to see Dr. Magnant by my OBGYN provider and by other healthcare workers. I scheduled an appointment for a consultation with Dr. Magnant and saw his PA for the first 3 visits. My consultation was originally to get my varicose vein treated aesthetically, but then on my second visit, I had a consultation with different PA from the office, and she asked me to list all of my symptoms, she even asked if my lower back, hip, buttock, pelvic hurt as well and if I was experiencing painful or discomfort intercourse with my husband. I answered yes to all the questions. I also informed her that I go for a deep tissue massage every 2 weeks, I wear my compression socks faithfully when I go to work and even when I'm at home doing chores, and nothing seems to help. At this point, I was desperate for help, not to mention that I was tired of waking up in the middle of the night from leg pain and urinating more frequently at night. The PA educated me about the May-Thurner Syndrome (MTS), a rare vascular condition affecting a vein in your pelvis. In my case, the iliac artery was compressing my left iliac vein. I had to get another ultrasound to see if I had MTS. The result came back as most likely, and I had to see Dr. Magnant. When I had my first consultation with Dr. Magnant, I was impressed with his professionalism, he took his time to explain to me about MTS and why I should get the Intravascular Ultrasound (IVUS) first before taking care of my varicose vein aesthetically. I like how he explained to me in the simplest form and didn't assume that I knew everything just because I am a nurse. I proceeded to make an appointment for the IVUS procedure, got a stent, and what a difference it made in my life. It took me about 3 weeks to recover from the IVUS procedure, my left leg took longer for the swell to go down, and about 4 weeks to be able to walk normally. My symptoms were all gone 2 weeks post-procedure except for the bulging varicose vein. So, if you are a nurse and work long hours on your feet, request at least 3 weeks off from work and one week on light duty before resuming your regular job duty. Dr. Magnant is hands down the best vascular surgeon for vein disease that I have ever been to. My mother, her 2 friends, myself and 2 of my friends have all gone to and been patients of Dr. Magnant's. He is funny, friendly and a great vein doctor overall. I would recommend him to anyone needing a vein doctor. I was having a burning sensation in my legs and seeing a slight bulging vein after sitting for long periods of time. Other doctors told me I was nuts, that it was in my head and nothing could be done. Dr. Magnant ordered a vascular ultra sound on the area and his tech Mr. Jarrard found a perforator vein feeding the bulge and causing the burning sensation. Being that I am young Dr. Magnant did not feel my case was bad enough to need surgery so he suggested I wear compression socks at work or while driving on road trips and recommended I maintain a consistent work out regime to combat the symptoms and save me countless surgery $. His recommendations were perfect and he saved me money by being a conservative doctor which I really appreciated. I have followed his instruction and my legs feel great all the time now and I have gotten in better shape :) This Dr is amazing. What he did for my mom was amazing too. She had gained 50 lbs over the course of 3 years bc she could no longer work out without getting fatigued legs, pain, aching and swelling. He found the leak in her legs, both of them, fixed them both and she is getting back into shape fast, she feels like she is 20 again and her spirits have lifted immensely. My girlfriend who he helped had just had her first baby and was so embarrassed of her spider veins. He fixed those to perfection and his pricing was very competitive. She is seriously happy with the results and proudly wearing shorts again. ((Politics (in the other reviews) have nothing to do with his capability as a doctor. And as usual the media always makes things up. It also appears that all of those other reviews come from out of the area of Fort Myers, which tells me they are probably fake. Leg Vein Procedures I have suffered since 1991 when an accident created a large clot in my left leg. This caused pain, swelling and occasional ulceration. I was told repeatedly (by various doctors) that no procedure would be beneficial. Recently, I was having pain in my hip and calf behind the left knee. This made walking and exercising difficult and unpleasant. I thought this was an unrelated symptom of aging. Late 2017 I made an appointment with Dr. Magnant to find out if there was any new technology that might help. Answer - yes. In late October 2017 Dr. Magnant ordered an Ultrasound of my left leg and abdomen. This indicated that the left Distal Artery was applying pressure on the Iliac Vein which provides the out-feed for the veins of the left leg. Dr. Magnant then did a procedure where a probe was fed from my left thigh up into the Iliac Vein, which he found to be 64% obstructed. Then inserted 2 stints to open the vein and restore blood flow. The results were impressive. The circumference of my thigh decreased 11 Centimeters (4 1/3 inches). Swelling in my ankle reduced. Surface heat at the ankle reduced to near normal. Pain was minimal. An unexpected result is that the pain in my hip is completely gone and the pain in my calf is gradually reducing. I can now begin to build leg strength again. I guess it wasn't unrelated. Dr. Magnant has since begun Sclerotherapy to remove the diseased veins in the left leg and ankle. This should redirect blood flow into healthy veins. Results to date appear very promising. There is hope that I may end with a nearly normal leg for the first time in 26 years. I have subsequently learned that Dr. Magnant is one of the most advance vein specialists in the country and a leader in this type of advanced surgery. read more

I'd like to write a brief review for Vein Specialist in Bonita Springs having an extensive experience in the healthcare industry and originally being from New York city I wanted to leave this recommendation for Dr. Magnant and his team including Pietra and Vein Specialist in Bonita Springs. I returned today for my second leg vein ablation and microphlebectomy are varicose vein removal. Having had my left leg done a couple weeks prior. I can tell you that the left leg feels much better although there still some healing that needs to be completed I'm really happy with how that was feeling so when I came in today for my right leg, I of course was anxious to have that done and in feeling as good as my other leg and I can tell you that under local anesthesia in the office with a active conversation with the doctor and his assistance I was very comfortable having his procedure done as an outpatient in their Bonita Springs office. Varicose veins are uncomfortable and all-pervasive - it's estimated that over a third of both women and men in this country suffer from them. I was one of those people. It seems like my whole adult life I avoided wearing shorts. After doing some research online I decided to visit Vein Specialists to take care of my ugly veins. I had both my legs fixed by Dr. Magnant and he is the very best physician EVER!! He is funny, compassionate and a great surgeon. The office is very friendly too. I had varicose veins on both my legs and after my second child I had them both fixed. The procedure was very easy and I was back at the gym the next day. He is very confident surgeon and skilled. He has a wonderful reputation not only as a physician but in the community.
