Rhubarb and custard cake with a long black and piccolo. Yum.

I visit friends who live outside Inverness ever so often, and it is so refreshing to have a nice cafe to depend on! I will admit the first time I visited the coffee wasn't spot on, but this second time around they have definitely figured it out, as they now serve and make Papercup coffee. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing, a bike themed cafe, you don't have to be a bike lover to enjoy a coffee and a cake here. The cakes, made from the local 'Garden Bakery' were absolutely stunning. I had a rhubarb and custard cake, which looked entirely too decadent, but it was perfect, not too sweet and not heavy. It was so agreeable we got a slice of the ginger cake, which was icing-less, but equally as good, and again wasn't to sweet. I would highly recommend this place for a good seat, atmosphere and delicious cakes. They also serve soup and some small lunch items, as well as have a rage of games, bike themed magazines/books and a community style table to sprawl out on.

A really nice café and bicycle workshop combined with a nice atmosphere! The lunch soup is great! They also let you fix your bike yourself with or without assistance from a bike mechanic for a reduced price! Great coffee as well!

Harry Gow Bakery at Union St. was one of my favorite spots during our trip to Scotland. This…read moreScottish bakery has multiple locations, and they are very popular throughout the United Kingdom. I heard about one of their baked goods called the Dream Ring so I knew that I must try this while we were in Inverness. This particular bakery location was very clean, and the staff was polite. They were patient with us as we decided what we wanted to purchase. Everything looked amazing! They don't carry just sweet treats. They also make a multitude of savory items as well. We ended up buying (4) sweets to try later. They packaged it up nicely in a cool looking box. All four treats were yummy. My wife's favorite was the Strawberry Tart which looked good, but tasted even better than its looks. How about their Dream Ring? Did I like it? Oh Yeah!! You bet I liked it!! That Dream Ring doughnut of theirs looks simple, and it tastes dreamy!! I don't know what it is about it that makes it taste so good. Maybe it's the dough or maybe it's the icing or maybe it's the delicious bakers cream inside the Dream Ring. Whatever the reason....the whole thing just works so well and tastes wonderful! If I had known that I would like it so much, then I would have bought their Giant Dream Ring!! Yup, they got a Giant one too!! Harry Gow Bakery is a fabulous bakery. I can see why they've won Scottish Baker of the year multiple times. They bake everything from scratch. No pre-mix ingredients in their products. Do yourself a favor and stop by Harry Gow Bakery when you are in Inverness. If you don't like the place, then I don't know what is wrong with you!! LOL!! Just kidding. Everybody's different. Seriously, though. Give them a try!!

We stopped in during our few nights in Inverness...twice actually...one when we didn't want anything, but compelled by "doughnuts" to explore what they offered in order to make a plans for a visit the next day...and then the next day came in and post-dinner we hightailed it directly up Church Street into night time Perk Coffee and Doughnuts (though the sign says "Dunk Coffee & Doughnuts"?) At night, they switch from coffee and large doughnuts to cocktails and small doughnuts. We skipped the cocktail part as our next stop was whisky, and we ordered up 3 small doughnuts. We had chocolate cherry, banana, and passionfruit mango. The passionfruit mango had a jam inside it which was a little too sweet for our tastes, and it was hard to discern the passionfruit flavor. I liked the chocolate cherry one. It had a nice and rich chocolate ganache which blended very well with the cherries. The other really good one was the banana. My wife is a sucker for custard-filled donuts, and this banana one was the star of the show for her.. They're all-yeast donuts, and the doughnut itself is not the most yeast-y I've ever had in terms of light texture, but it wasn't bad. The staff was super friendly (especially on our exploratory visit when we clearly weren't buying anything) As with any place like this, they might run out of doughnuts, so plan accordingly! It's also a tiny place with only a few seats inside and a couple of tables outside, so plan where you're going to eat your doughnuts (and/or drink your coffee and/or cocktail) accordingly too!

My husband and I went here as we had received vouchers for a 3 course meal for our recent wedding…read more We decided to go on the anniversary of our engagement so the night was a special one for us - and that just sums up the whole experience - special. We were made to feel like royalty from the first moment, on arrival our coats were taken and we were shown to the bar area for drinks. (Tip - Book your slot half an hour earlier than you intend to eat). Our drinks order was taken and both drinks were very well made and delicious. Our server then came over with our menu for us to choose what we wanted for our 3 course dinner, along with delicious canapés. After around half an hour from arriving, we were shown to our table, best view of the restaurant with both of us facing out to Inverness and the river below. This was November time so it was dark, but I'm sure there would be some gorgeous views if it was still light. Bread and butter arrived along with water and a choice of fruit to freshen your water! A simple idea that really adds to the special nature of the evening. The food was absolutely delicious, and portion sizes were pleasantly larger than we had anticipated. (We had previously been warned that the portions were small so we stocked up on bread, there was no need at all!) Throughout the evening we were made to feel very special. A very small criticism would be that the room is very quiet, so diners were whispering to one another so as not to distract others. It would have been nice to have some soft music in the background. After dessert (pictured) we were given a plate of chocolates to finish off the evening. So in total, we had three drinks each, canapés, starter, main, dessert and chocolates - I felt very full after! The 3 course menu costs £42 per head, which seems steep but worth every penny if you are looking to celebrate a special occasion. I'm looking forward to the next special occasion so we can go back here!
