Now you're talking…read more Met at 11am on a Monday when all the museums were closed, at the Credit Suisse in the Paradeplatz, one of the world's most expensive and exclusive shopping areas. Must have been at least 100 people there. Fortunately about 20 peeled off for the Spanish speaking tour. Julian was our guide, a great story teller with an abundance of jokes. At the Fraumünster church, we discovered tiny hieroglyphics carved into the stones. This was to keep track of which artisan packed which stones into the structure, for pay purposes. We stop by a statue of a burgermeister, condemned to death not for killing dogs, but for raising taxes! We wander through St Peter Church - one of the four main churches in Zurich whose clock face is the largest in all of Europe; We check out the restaurant where famous painters as Picasso, Chagall, Giacometti paid for their food with their own paintings. The restaurant owners sold the paintings right away, instead of keeping them until they appreciated in value. Next, we check out the house where Lenin was living before returning to Russia, leading the 1917 revolution. We go along the Limmatquai with many buildings dating from the days of the rich Guilds that governed Zurich. We wander through the Lindenhof and Roman Baths - the historical site of a Roman castle situated on a hillside, with great views of Old Town. Did you know that Albert Einstein and 20 Nobel Prize winners were students at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology? At the end of the 2 hour free tour Julian poses with a group for Facebook picture under "Free walk Zurich", passes out postcards with the logo, and collects tips, once again at the Paradeplatz. With 100 people, and an average of CHF3 per tip per person, Julian is a walking piggy bank, and takes no chances with his travel bag, now heavy with CHF bills. He walks only a few steps to make an in person deposit at the nearest bank! Or does he keep part of the stash hidden from the authorities?

We had such a blast getting to know more about such a beautiful city. The Old Zurich tour was much more crowded. Our guide was amazing. Explained a lot and told us great stories about the city. She even recommended a place for lunch which was delicious. The Zurich West tour was good, but not as great as the morning tour. Our guide was knowledgeable but we didn't feel like we learned as much. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone traveling to Zurich

Who would think a car showing would be sooo interesting. It is huge and MUCH to see. You need all day to appreciate and study all; there's even a bistro inside the museum to sit down and have a bite. I did not alllow enough time so I will just have to go back during Christmas time when the nearby town, Montbeliard hosts their astounding world Christmas Market. If you like cars (actually even if you do not)..this such a worthwhile visit.

Hector was our local guide and he took us to the Rose Garden. The view from there of the city was quite incredible. Such beauty of the mountains in the distance made this stop worth our while. When we went, the tulips were in bloom, but not the roses. Hector told us it was too early in the year for them. Be sure to go when more of the flowers are in bloom to fully appreciate the Rosegarten high above Bern.

When I purchased my ticket the staff explained that the collection is constantly rotating so I may not be able to see my favorite works by Paul Klee, but I definitely discovered new artwork by him and also other artists in circle. There was an incredible collection of drawings by Paul Klee and an audio visual display. They do have guided tours and they even have one in English. There are free documetary films playing, usually on either Klee or one of his contemporaries. The museum is beautifully situated and you can take some wonderful photographs of the surrounding mountains and also see a great view of Bern. I walked to the museum and it's a bit of a hike uphill but it's so pretty because you pass by various rivers and residential area. I learned a lot about Klee's life, his contemporaries and also his struggles during the 1930s. Definitely a must see if you want to visit the best museum in Bern. My only gripe is that if you don't read German It is difficult to decipher all the information on the walls but you can rent an audio guide and listen to it in English and other languages. I wish that there had been free information on the walls regarding the artwork in French or Italian (2 other official Swiss languages) because I do speak those languages. There's a wonderful children's center in the museum which looks really fun. Also some colorful seating areas and a very good café.

Yelp Review 2026 #53:…read more My first visit to Fraumunster, I didn't even bother going in. I just took pictures of the 4 iconic and most photographed churches in Zurich. I revisited Zürich recently and this time, I checked out the Marc Chagall windows. As an art history buff, I owed myself a visit here even though Chagall isn't my favorite. He's a very important part of art history. He's known for his use of bold and vivid use of colors. He dabbled in painting, stained glass, ceramics, set design, etc. Other notable stained glass creations in Fraumunster include those by Heston, and Giacometti. It costs 5CHF (at time of writing) to enter - which is cheap by Swiss standards. You can't buy tickets in advance or online. Be sure to check their hours. There's a small crypt museum which was only opened to the paying public after renovations in 2016. There's a lot of text to read to learn more about the church. An excerpt: "The Fraumünster was founded in 853 by King Louis "the German", a grandson of Charlemagne. The royal abbey was built on a site which had still been flooded by Lake Zurich until not long before. According to the founding legend, the king doubted whether the location was suitable, whereupon a rope descended from the heavens to mark the construction site, a sign which allayed Louis' concerns."

Is it worth a special trip? No. There are about 4-5 different stained glass windows and while it's very relaxing and unique to a degree, there just isn't much to see and the air quality really isn't great. All in all, if you're in the area, have 10 minutes to spare, and don't mind the fee I'd say go for it, but otherwise (especially if you have allergies) you're not missing much by skipping it.

The old teddy bears, dolls and doll houses were my favorite. The building is beautifully kept, easy to navigate and has a clean restroom on every floor. The staff was very pleasant and entry was free with Basel travel card given to me at the hotel. My wife and I really enjoyed this tour and it was like stepping back in time.

Very, very fun to watch. They also had a special exhibit going on about corsets. Not sure why the subject, but very well displayed nonetheless. The Lavaux Express is one of the touristic trains that you can take to explore and view the Lavaux…read morevineyards. The Lavaux Express runs April - October and depending on the day will either depart from Lutry or Cully. There are also special trains that run several times a year that include a wine tasting. You can visit their website to review the schedule and route. We took the Sunday train starting from Lutry port. It is a great option to take out of town tourists on if the weather is bad and you don't want to go for a walk as the train is enclosed and covered. They also offer blankets that you can wrap yourself in if it is a cold April day. It is the perfect option if you have a guest with you that isn't able to hike up and down the hills through the vineyards. You can buy the ticket in Lutry next to the little snack shop in the port area. The train itself are rubber wheeled carts tugged behind a tractor made to look like a train engine. You find these little trains throughout Switzerland. It can be a bit loud, but a nice alternative option. It is something not to miss as the views from the hillside in the vineyards is fantastic, and seeing the small villages is not to be missed.
