It was like we had an old friend showing us her hometown. It was great to have Cecilia with us because she took us walking along the back streets of Venice where we stopped in and sampled food and wine in several local bars. These were places we would never have found on our own. We didn't have to worry about anything, Cecilia got us a table and handled all of the ordering. We never had to pay another cent out of pocket for any food, wine or transport, making this tour an exceptional value. We sampled many different local wines and lots of cicchetti (vegetables, cheese, meat, fish and more). All were delicious and exciting and the entire tour was a very intimate, educational experience. We even got to try our hand at crossing a canal in a local traghetto (though I wasn't brave enough to stand up during the crossing). We had 5 other couples on our tour and it was wonderful to get to mingle and explore a foreign city with other excited foodies. If you love food and like to experience and learn about different cultures, book this tour; you will not be disappointed! I cannot recommend it highly enough!

This is a must do on your first night, she gives you tips and tricks for navigating. The city and avoiding the true tourist traps (of which there are many). Urban Adventures prides themselves on responsible tourism supporting the local shops and restaurants. She even showed us a local spot that we could get 1.5 liters of amazing wine for only 3.50 Euros. Literally cheaper than water that you can pay up to 4 Euros for at most places. We are now trying to book similar tours on other legs of our stop, great way to get a feel for the really local culture!

This particular time we had 2 guides as one was training so it was fun to always have someone to ask questions when the other one is talking to others. Our group was small, there was one other couple from Italy but we all had the same goal. Having a great time and eating and learning history! Our guide was so energetic and showed her complete passion for the city. She was highly respected at each stop we made and everything on each stop worked like clockwork! We learned so much about the city's deep history and she took the time to sit with us and show us a map as she explained everything. I cannot even begin to talk about the bites we had including a wine tasting stop. Everything was special in its own way to the town and I don't want to ruin it by mentioning each place. Take this tour to get your bearings right when you arrive and you won't be disappointed. We were a bit confused that some of the signs for Pignole say Suastene, but we found out that they had recently been sold. Despite catching them in transition, the winery open its doors early for us. The tasting included 10 wines plus snacks for 25 euro. Our server Francisco was warm and knowledgeable, treating us to a tour of the cellars. Before we knew it, we had spent 3 hours there!

First things first, arrange a reservation for a tour and tasting in advance. You'll pay for it when you arrive. At the lost cost of 25 euros you'll receive a very thorough tour of the production facility and labeling room, a tasting of eight different wines, a variety of meats and cheeses to accompany the wines, AND you'll get to take a home a bottle of wine of your choice. You simply can't beat that. Everyone at Toffoli was so hospitable and despite the fact that were were running late for our 10 am scheduled tour they happily accomodated us when we arrived. We were extremely fortunate to have Sante, the oldest brother of the family and part-owner, be our private guide for the tour. He is seriously one of the nicest people. Sante is extremely knowledgeable on the prosecco area and the wine making process and is happy to share this knowledge with others. Not only did we learn all about each step of the production process but he also threw in fun anecdotes about growing up in the region and about his family that really enriched the experience for us. Before we knew it, THREE HOURS had gone by as we spent the whole morning with Sante drinking delicious wines and learning so much about the region and the family behind the wine. If you only have time to visit one winery in the Prosecco region this is the one you can't miss!
