I have no idea how the staff make and serve the food they do and still keep smiling. Service is always very friendly. Aside from the pates, imported Pierre Marcolini chocolate, oils and deli foods, they do stunning salad boxes and tasty sandwiches with fillings that spill over. My favourite is the goats cheese and grilled aubergine with balsamic. Slightly above everyday lunch prices but worth supporting an enterprise that is passionate about high quality food. read more

Service is great and friendly. The atmosphere and layout makes the setting very relaxing. It's an escape from the buzzing streets of spitalfield market. I feel like I'm in a different European city. The flat white is below average, a Nespresso could beat it (I think the milk was burnt). The Pierre Marcolini signature hot chocolate is tasty if you like dark chocolate. But it is not worth £5.75. I wouldn't race back here for seconds anytime soon. Still a good place to read a book or a chat with a mate. read more

Now let's get one thing straight, in life... there's truffles and then there's truffles. These are the latter, delicious and reasonably priced, not to be confused with the former, which are overpriced (and still delicious). Verde & Co has been on my bookmarks list for ages, but a recent brunch encounter with the luminous Linzi M had left us with the need for a little coffee pick-me-up so the moment finally came to tick this one off my list. If you're looking for hot chocolates or mochas, you need to stop in, it's absolutely perfect. There's a chocolate counter with some tempting little treats, so we tried a few... here's the verdict in case you haven't gathered... Yum. Lime + dark, cassis, pink peppercorn, you can't go wrong....also considering we've been to other shops that stick on a more aggressive pricetag, these did the trick for a coffee companion. There's not much space inside to sit, but you could always take yours to go and sit in Spitalfields and point at the hipsters. Win-win, either way. read more

This starts off a sad story but ends happily. I had been promised hot chocolate. I bussed, I walked, I eventually arrived at my destination and realised that on Bank Holidays, not everything is open. My friend said 'Not to worry, I can find you another even awesomer place for hot chocolate'. I was not a believer. We bussed, we walked, we even got a little lost but eventually we arrived at our destination. From the outside, it piqued my curiosity. Once inside, I smiled with delight. As something who adores tidbits of random things, I dribbled over the delicious looking chocolates of all different flavours (Earl Grey sounded interesting), wanted to buy all the beautifully quaint boxes of Pastilles and was desperate to be rich enough to buy all the jars of pesto and boxes of pasta I could see. With only 6 chairs, it's incredibly tiny and cramped and we saw many people turned away. But onto the hot chocolate! Served in an unassuming paper cup, this was the real thing. Rich, thick and obviously made with love, this was a hot chocolate worth travelling across London for. If you're a smidgen peckish, I'd recommend the quiche and brownie too - both are squidgy inside and should not be wolfed down carelessly. read more

Mmm. I'm puzzled. I read only good things about this place + I've walked in front of it a few times and thought it looked sweet...but my experience, although short, wasn't worth more than 3 stars. Just wanted a coffee to go and had to pay 40 cents on top because I didn't have cash...To be honest, I wouldn't mind if the coffee was great, but it just wasn't :( service was a bit too relaxed. I'm giving this five stars on appearance alone. You don't come across many shops where you feel instantly transported into the apples 'n pears life of Eliza Doolittle. If you took a black and white photo of this place you could sneak it into the archives of a museum and nobody would know (as long as you look out for background folk in stilettos and shell suits). Great little deli with rather accommodating prices considering how much effort they put into the atmosphere and the service. This place is small on the inside but bulging with baskets and crates of vegetables, fruit, flowers and cabinets of hams, cheeses and chutneys. Sandwiches, soups and salads (my favourite being bresaola with sun-blush tomatoes, fresh tomato & leaves) come highly recommended. A lot of effort goes into this place. read more

A little gem a short walk from Liverpool station. It reminds me of an adult-sized rustic French dollhouse, with little baskets, jars of jam, and assorted items packed in from floor to ceiling. Inside, you'll find seating for about 8 people, and there are cute outdoor seats, too, for those who prefer to people-watch. read more

Verde & Company is a small delicatessen located opposite Spitalfields Market stocking high-end products from all over the world. I've seen Japanese noodles, bakewell tarts, Clarke's brownies and Pierre Marcolini chocolates all being sold here at some time or other. And the last bit brings me on to this review. I've been in this deli a number of times but never bought anything before. It's high-end, meaning I can't quite justify the expense of purchasing something in here, particularly when the marketplace is so nearby. However, I succumbed when I saw that they now sell Pierre Marcolini hot chocolate (£3.75) in addition to hot beverages and savouries. And man, was the hot chocolate incredibly good. It rivals that of Paul A Young's pure hot chocolate. If you're in the area and you have a hot chocolate craving, this is the place to go. Verde & Company also do lunches on weekdays. Sadly, I'm not able to make it down during the week so you'll have to wait for someone else to review their meals. There is seating available inside, but it's of the bar stool variety and the store really isn't that large. The guy serving me was very friendly, and ended up wishing me a happy Chinese New Year (I'm ethnic Chinese, he wasn't) and chatting a bit about what the year ahead meant for our respective zodiac signs. Definitely highly recommended, and well worth the money! read more

Charming little place close to Spitalfields market. 3 or 4 tables, lovely decor. Sat by the window, had a delicious vegan salad (served with a disposable fork, a bit awkward, now that I come to think of it) and a water-based hot chocolate, which was a real treat, though very small. No soy milk, which is disappointing, however the hot chocolate is indeed very satisfying prepared with water, so I'd definitely recommend giving it a try. read more

Wow, a little treat in Spitalfields that brings amazing Chocolates and some of the best salads. Forget "Chopped", this is for serious lovers of fine quality salads, fresh leaf and innovative toppings. It is also really rather good value when compared to the peers. This place also does Sandwiches, random snacks, fruits and all sorts of little items for cooking like vinegars and special sugars. As an example of the current salad/sandwich menu, you can get: Chorizo, gorgonzola and sweet chilli; Ginger pig English ham and dijon mustard and Smoked salmon with lemon juice. The quality is great, these aren't mass produced cuts of meat or cheese, it is good thick cuts with taste and seasoning. My favourite is the medium rare roast beef and horseradish salad... :) The small size is generally fine as well, so for £4.75 you actually save at least 50p compared to mass-produced Chopped. Overall, in a little small setting with arts and craft deco and the lovely sight of the chocolates as well (so tempting) this place makes my day and is a sure fire once a week lunch place. read more

Verde & Company is straight out of Oliver Twist. This tiny little Dickensian store sells specialty jams, chocolates and other items that would have any cheap skipping for miles. Their Pierre Marcolini chocolates are to die for, as is any of the other delectable items they have for sale in this shop. It's a great place for gifts. Nothing in here is cheap, but if you want to get a sense of how quality London shops used to operate in the olden days you'll get an authentically old-school experience in here. read more

I have been here only twice, often caught up in the busy lunch traffic of Spitalfields and choosing anywhere that has a shorter line, but this place is really something special! As beautiful inside as it is on the outside, its a marketplace for chocolates, jams, sauces, pasta, and more! I always aim for the soup. So far always dairy free (YAY!) and so so good! The lentil was thick and hearty and the summer vegetable (the one that prompted me to write this review) was blissful. Seriously thankful for the phenomenal soup that definitely helped my day cheer up! read more

A sweet little coffee shop in the middle of Spitalfields with beautiful, Instagram-worthy decor (hanging baskets and rustic wood crates out front, ever-so-slightly ramshackle display of foodie goodies inside) serving Pierre Marcolini's famous hot chocolate and one mean flat white. Great outdoor seating and perfect for people watching. I was tempted by the pastries too, but with the market nearby, I didn't want to ruin my appetite! Ordered a beef and horseradish sandwich for lunch. Nice thick bread bursting with beef and salad leaves! Although a 'premium' sandwich shop (amongst other things) you really do get what you pay for. Welcoming staff, quality ingredients and lots of it! Couldn't ask for more. read more

Amazing, made-to-order gourmet sandwiches and salads with fresh ingredients. The menu is primarily either sandwich or salad, but anything you can get on a sandwich, you can have as a salad with a nice spoon of the house balsamic dressing. Sizes and prices vary; the quality of the ingredients is consistent with price not with Pret. My favorite is home roasted beef with horseradish on rich and hearty brown bread, but the speck and parma makes an amazing salad. I would give the place 5 stars, but then I wouldn't be acknowledging that sometimes, during the busy lunch hour queues onto Brushfield, I have been given a salad when I asked for a sandwich. read more

What a find. Do not go to Spitalfields without popping into Verde. When you approach this eaterie it is like stepping back in time. The atmosphere alone is worth the visit but what you will encounter is fantastic soups, sandwiches, coffees, chocolates and I hear the hot chocolate is amazing. Dennis Severs house is a few roads away from this delightful theatrical cafe. The two have similar styles. If you have the time try and see both in the same day day. I ordered a large salmon salad with extra peppers - it took them ages to make it, primarily because they had several people coming back to fix their original order. I asked as I was paying whether they had remembered my peppers (which the man taking my money confirmed) - then when I got the salad back to my desk, I opened it up and found they'd forgotten my peppers. Pretty annoyed after having spent almost £10 on a fairly average salmon salad. Would not recommend and, if you do go, make sure you actually open up and check your order before you leave!! read more
