Classic French sandwich place and I can't believe there isn't a crowd. We went back to try the pastry and that was equally as good.

Paul Rhodes is located close to Kensington Palace. We took a short coffee break here right after our walk at the Kensington Garden. I like this place because of their variety of pastries and they are all fairly priced. Anything from salty to sweet is available. They have all the standard espresso drinks and complimentary still water. I order the sausage roll along with a large cup of latte. Everything can be reheated in the oven if desired. Within 5 minutes my order was delivered. The latte art was poorly constructed but that wasn't a big deal for me. I'll take a good tasting cup of latte over a bad cup with a beautifully etched leaf on it any day of the week. Free wifi is another plus especially for a tourist without a international SIM card. I always pass by this place on the bus and decided to finally try it out. Came here to buy some treats for a dinner party so I pretty much picked a couple of everything that looked good to me. The pecan tarts and the brownies were the best in my opinion. The pecan tart had just the right amount of filling with a delicious crust. There is nothing worse than when you have a thick jelly mess in your pecan pie. The brownies were thick, fudgy and chocolicious. Service here was great. They packaged everything separately for me as I had quite a few items and I did not want them mashing together on the way home. Ahhhhh, where to start? This place is amazing, great food, friendly service, and good vibe. The menu is filled with interesting options i would say British with a gastro flare. If you are going for brunch or breakfast please do yourself a favor and try the society Benedict; 2 poached eggs perfectly sitting on top of fluffy and toasted English Muffins sandwiched between this is avocado English bacon and the star of the show, perfectly cooked lobster, the running yoke and hollandaise sauce make this an experience. Paul Rhodes Bakery was conveniently located between the Airbnb my friends and I were staying at and the bus stop, making it the perfect place for morning coffee and pastries. Their lattes were rich and smooth, which I loved; and our group was a big fan of both the sausage and ham pastries! The staff was kind and helpful, answering any questions we had. At the end of our trip, I bought one of their tote bags with "bag for loaf" printed on it. It made for a great souvenir and is the perfect bag for grocery shopping. read more

What can I say about Paul Rhodes Bakery? I thank Heaven that I found it!! Just down the street from me in Notting Hill, and right around the corner, this little slice of Heaven appeared to me! How can you not see it (or smell it) as you walk by? With all of its yummy breads just hanging out in displays by the window......the smell of bread and pastries cooking.....ahhhhhhhh.......Pure Heaven! I swear I can hear them beckoning me to come in and eat them....LOL! Pastries, breads, cakes, pies, coffee, tea......how could you not want to stay and have a bit or take away so that you can indulge in pure luxury in the comfort of your own home? The customer service is fantastic as well! Some of the nicest people work here and are so helpful! Smiles all around! You have to try their cheesecake and their tarts! The bread is so fresh and yummy and the coffee, I think, is way better than Starbucks! I've gone back a few times now and am NEVER disappointed! We were lucky enough to have a flat around the corner from this gem while we visited London. We stopped here each morning for coffee and breakfast before we headed for the tube. Coffee was perfect and there were so many pastry options to choose from. The staff were so kind and nice to us each day. Average experience near Kensington. We went in the morning before an early flight and it was alright. We ordered the mushroom and cheese bread and a ham and cheese croissant. The croissant was barely warmed and the bread was still cold after being in the warmer. I'm not sure if they had been frozen prior or if the oven wasn't working but they were essentially room temperature if not colder. The lattes were good but for the price it was not worth it for the sandwiches. I'd skip it and hit up another bakery for sandwiches if that's what you're after. I really want to love Paul Rhodes, as it's within walking distance of my flat, but I've been several times since moving to London and I've been less impressed each time. The shop itself is nothing special, which is surprising since the first thing you see when you walk in is this sprawling array of breads/pastries (quite unlike any other display I've seen) but past that, it's average in every way. Service is fine, the staff are pleasant but it seems like it takes a while to get coffee, especially when eating in. I haven't tried anything from the bakery, which could be a redeeming factor. The coffee is also just 'fine' - after trying both a hot and iced latte, I'm pretty content to go elsewhere for better coffee and a better atmosphere. read more

Conveniently located on the corner of Notting Hill Gate & Linden Gardens, this bakery opened in July 2010. This used to be the old Marsh & Parsons office, but when they moved, I wondered what we'd end up getting on the high street. When I read a letter notifying that the premises was going to be a Paul Rhodes Bakery and looking it up on the internet, I was counting down the days to taste their delights. Bakeries are my weakness, I love anything sweet like cakes :-) Inside the decor is modern, you can buy from a selection of fresh bread, pastries and cakes. I bought a medium slice of pizza and a warm croissant, both delicious, my boss had one of their sandwichs, but although he conceded it was a little pricey, he said it was delicious. Although there isn't much space for sitting inside, the premises has been cleverly designed with a small mezzanine level where there are a few tables and chairs, and outside on the street there are a few tables. The only downside is that it can take a while to get served, it's not the best in terms of service, but it's certainly a yummy place to go to if you live in the area. read more

Located in Notting Hill Gate, just a few blocks from where my sister resides, sits a quaint little coffee shop and bakery. Their bread, pastries, and other baked savoury and sweet food items are displayed impressively alongside the window of the shop, and under the glass counter, where one would pay. Perhaps the friendliest and humble staff to operate and wait at a coffee shop in London. Just a few shops westward is a Starbucks. As this place serves coffee and tea, as well, I really hope this place is able to maintain the commercial stamina to at least stay competitive with the huge chain. Four visits to this place, two skinny lattes, a pretzel, and loaf of bread are enough to warrant my repeat return when I come back to visit next year. read more

It's a friendly neighbourhood spot, and the window display is quite a landmark. They have a huge selection of bread, pastries, quiches, etc. and will heat them up for you in the oven. They also have bags of homemade candies (hooray for chocolate-covered marshmallows) and cups of chocolate and fruit mousse. They have a seating area in the back and it's a cozy place to enjoy your yummies. Gluten-free notes: They can tell you exactly what's in everything -- they have a huge book showing all of the allergy and cross contamination risks. They used to sell a loaf of gluten-free bread but have recently re-labeled it as low-gluten. I need to find out why. read more

O my days! Why don't I use this place more at a mere 10 min stroll from my house. The breads they sell look amazing as do the cakes and pastries. The sandwiches are worth every penny (£4 for a jam packed roll) and there is quite a selection. They also toast them which although seemed to take an age was well worth it. You can eat in or takeaway so we took our sandwiches to Kensington Gardens as it was a sunny day (also meaning we didn't have to pay the eat in cost). They put the roll on a small paper plate and wrap it in a bag which makes it so much easier to eat and meant it was still lovely and hot. I went for the egg, avocado and cheese roll which came in sundried tomato bread, mmmmm! My bf went for the mozzarella and sundried tom which was also sooo good. As an avid coffee drinker and lover of cupcakes, I finally checked out Paul Rhodes a few weeks ago. I was headed to a meeting where I knew sweets would go over well. The cupcakes I bought were decorated to match the upcoming Easter holiday. Special attention was given to make sure the cupcakes would arrive in one piece. The cappuccino that I ordered was divine. One of the best I have had in awhile. Overall, my first time in the place. It's nice and quaint. But, I could see how it could fill up quickly especially with the availability of outlets to do work. For Americans who for the most part have never experienced what a real bakery can be, this is a wonderful experience. The breads are interestting, substantial, crispy, and with limited size so that you don't have a loaf so large you don't know what to do with it. The cakes, scones, pies, muffins, etc. are all very flavorful and have no relationship to that soft dough stuff that originated in U.S. bread factories, and now is replicated in places called local bakeries and supermarket bakeries because people like the soft dough texture. Nonsense. Give people substantial bread, cake and cookie doughs and they will never go back to their treasured factory models. Paul Rhodes is a find for Amiercan tourists. read more

I first came upon Paul Rhodes' Bakery in Greenwich several years ago by accident. All the breads, sandwiches, and treats are fantastic; but, their scones with cornish clotted cream and organic jam are simply to die for. I have been to this bakery a few times already and my only conclusion is that they deserve just one star. I have tried the scones, their "best in the world cake" (or some name like that) and the meringues. The scones are not bad, maybe too heavy, the cake was average (not the best in the world, that is obvious) but the meringues are simply awful. I bought one of which I had to throw away half, and I'm not demanding at all with food. It just seemed so wrong and not edible. The staff is not good either. In my first visit the girl behind the counter didn't even know what a scone was. In my last one, they clearly had been trained to up-sell, as if the place was a chain. I guess this is what they want to become, which is very sad. read more

I live in the area and go to this cafe fairly often because of the delicious breads and treats. They are indisputable perfection. What I take issue with is the atmosphere and service. Considering that the area is rich in mummies with buggies it is inexplicable to me why they keep one half of their double doors locked. Not closed. Locked. And even when I have been struggling with the buggy and trying to open the door the staff flat out refuse to help. The times I've been successful visiting are when I'm wearing my baby in a sling and it's less of an issue. There is also no changing table. I was in a while ago and asked when I came in, before I got settled, if there was a change table in the loo and the staff told me yes. Lo and behold there is only a 6 inch deep shelf and by that point I was halfway through my lunch and had to change the baby on the floor. I'm not asking to turn a cafe into a playgroup - no locking the door and installing a table are two extremely simple things that they could do to make this more welcoming. In the meantime, I bother to go here less and less because the bread may be nice but it's not that nice. read more

My daughter got the "world's best brownie" and agreed that it's the world's Best. I got the mini cheesecake tart - wow! The crust was so buttery soft and the filling was perfection. I know I'll be thinking about it for days to come. I also got a soy vanilla latte. Love that they didn't overdo the sweetness but it is stronger than most. The flavor was great read more

I got tea and a slice of Victoria sponge. The tea was fine, piping hot, in a cup. The sponge, however, was a real disappointment. It had been kept cold, so the cake was tough and dry, the buttercream an unappetizing texture. The only flavor that came through was that of the jam. The service was fine, patient while I made my choice, but prompt with service. I may have got a dud with the Victoria sponge. The breads did look very interesting. I would go back to try the bread, but I wouldn't eat in again, and I would stay away from any of the sweets that taste best at room temperature. read more

I am always surprised and amused to reads other people's revues and wonder if they actually know anything about what they buy...!!!! My experience at Paul Rhodes is the best I ever had, far better than the local competition ( as all the big cheeses are there...). It was such great news, for us locals, when they open last July. First of all they have a wonderful selection of breads - go and have a look on a Saturday morning to see what I mean - good organic coffee and a selection of appealing sandwiches and cakes. Service is good and efficient and has improved since last year, even though you still have a to wait a little during busy time ( this is success ). 3 stars, despite what it wants to be, poor service and sandwiches let it down. On the other hand... regarding the jam tart, Rhodes, where do you get a crunch as good as that shortcake had? I've never experienced such crunch before. They make really good speciality bread, especially the olive breads and the garlic, fennel and sultana bread (I know it sounds weird, but it was perfect for toast!). The servers are nice, but there is usually a wait of a few minutes as they are very efficient. The coffee is nice. Have not tried the cakes, but they look really good. read more
