As a resident for a few years, the quality of management has declined. The staff turn-over is staggering. Wonderful employees have left due to mis-management The staff and residents are wonderful. Unfortunately Poor upper management has created a less than ideal living environment. read more

We were looking for an Adult Independent living Community for my Mother in law who was living in an Independent/ assisted living community in Raleigh NC. My father in law passed and we wanted her closer to us. I hadn't head of Verena, I actually found it on Yelp. The ratings were not great, it seemed primarily because of the food. We decided to give it a look and were incredibly surprised and delighted with the place, the staff, the prices and what they had to offer. My mother in law has been there three months now, during COVID and she seems to be very happy, obviously she is still transitioning but she's getting involved doing things, she gets on their bus for shopping and they have limited social things during these tough times, but at least it's something. meals are getting worse: lunch option: Party chicken with cream beef sauce or breakfast for lunch salad: tuna salad ( for the 3rd day in a row) sandwich: salami and swiss on white bread (for the 3rd day in a row) they can't keep anyone to help serve the food - almost everyone leaves within a couple months .... poor poor management... They have NO CLUE how to operate an quality senior living facility. No training for staff on working with the elderly! Families need to look at their parents cost of rent and really determine what they are getting out of it. They are cutting back on everything!!! They do not even order enough newspapers for the residents to read. You need more than one copy. It must be that bad there financially - not sure what they are doing with the astronomical rent they keep increasing every year. Only way to make a point is to get my mom out of there - and blog about the issue to hopefully help others. read more

I want to like this place because it is beautiful. However, even BEFORE the virus, there is nothing in house scheduled after 5, it is like the clock strikes and all office folks scatter. The food is VERY low grade-you would send it back if you were at a restaurant, and you cannot get any discounts if you opt out of meal plans-which one should not have too, because social dining is part of the experience. The fellow residents are very nice, but for starting rent of 2500 (1 bedroom) and up, and high staff turn over, retirees should expect better. I do not think any staff have educational training dealing with seniors, based on offerings on calendar. read more

This is a wonderful, active community for seniors in Williamsburg. I cannot recommend it enough! The staff is top-notched, the facility and grounds are beautiful and the apartments/activities are wonderful. My mother resides at the Verena and knowing she is in the caring community that offers so much for the residents is a godsend. From transportation to bingo, happy hours to family picnics - it is a lifestyle that is so positive for seniors. A true gem! read more

I love it here at the Verena. I've been here for 6 years and that tells you something. If I were not happy and content, I would not stay. There are other similar places in Williamsburg, but this is the best. Staff turnover happens, but most have been here a long time. My cleaning lady Jean has been here since it opened. She is wonderful! My daughter calls her the "Cleaning Goddess." The food is good. With Covid-19, we are in lockdown, and get menus to select from every week. I can always find something I like. We have an excellent chef, Adriss, and he is challenged to find enticing and delicious meals during lockdown, but he does it. The salmon the other day was to die for! Executive Director, Denise, and her staff are doing a good job of keeping us from going crazy during these trying times. I, for one, am going to miss having a full breakfast delivered and at my door when I get up each morning. But...my dog Diva and I are ready for this virus thingy to be over. read more
