I left this practice after a few years of frustration with the office staff. Was required to do bloodwork and office visit every 3 months to get medically required medication, and if you're unable to make your appointment due to conflict (you know, life) - you must reschedule to ensure meds are prescribed and usually it would be weeks before that was possible. Bloodwork was also tested by another doctor who found my levels way out of range - and suggested I ask my endocrinologist to adjust meds which I did. She again - required an appointment. Even though I had bloodwork results sent to her. And the next opening was 4 weeks out. So living with extremely high levels for that long unnecessarily is pretty bad. And most doctors won't make you do it. of this to say - don't bother it's such a headache and I wish I left sooner. read more

"I am writing this to warn other patients about a serious issue with Dr. Anju Verma's practice. After a clinical evaluation/bloodwork, Dr. Verma determined I needed a specific medication and issued a prescription. However, when my insurance required a standard Prior Authorization (PA) to cover the cost, Dr. Verma explicitly told me that she 'does not do any forms for a preauthorization.' This is a major failure in patient care. By refusing to complete the administrative paperwork necessary for me to access the medicine she herself prescribed, she has effectively blocked my treatment. A doctor who refuses to assist with the insurance process is essentially denying you the care you pay for. If you require a medication that isn't a basic generic, be warned: this office will likely refuse to help you get it approved by your insurance. I have had to file formal complaints with the Maryland Board of Physicians and the Attorney General's Health Education and Advocacy Unit because of this negligence. Avoid this provider if you want a doctor who actually follows through on your treatment plan. Luckily, I only wasted a couple of months with this office. I had an appointment with Dr. Verma that I confirmed twice - including a voicemail confirmation from their staff. When I showed up, I was told the appointment had been cancelled because I "didn't confirm," even though I had proof of the voicemail. When I showed them proof of confirmation, they said it was an error /communication gap in their system but they couldn't help me. I took time off work for this visit, and instead of taking responsibility or trying to fit me in, the staff were dismissive and rude. The doctor refused to see me or make any effort to accommodate, even though this was their scheduling error. They offered me another appointment three weeks later, which is unacceptable for a patient who showed up 15 mins early to a confirmed visit. The entire experience was unprofessional and showed a complete lack of accountability or empathy. I would strongly encourage others to search for a different doctor. this doctor is so unhelpful. She ordered blood work. I went to labcorp and they told me to have the doctor code the blood work correctly. Then it will be covered by insurence. When I call the office I got a very rude text from them saying they won't do that. I went back to my doc that recommended her and asked them to take her off the reccommend list. The office receptionist was happy to take our credit card number "to save on file" even though we did not want them to save it on file. Doctor Verma Anju prescribed blood tests. We got the blood tests done promptly. The office staff refused to schedule a follow-up appointment. I asked to speak with the doctor. They told me that I'd receive a call from the office manager. The office manager never called. The doctor never called. I called again; they hung up on me. They hung up on me several times. Doctor Verma ordered blood tests for my wife, for a couple of issues she was being treated for, and was receiving medications for - this was a follow-up to see how the medications were working. Medicare denied payment for the tests ($312.90) stating "the information provided does not support the need for this service". I followed up with a call to Medicare, and they requested I get a short three sentence letter from the doctor explaining why the tests were ordered. I made my request to Dr Verma's office for the letter in writing. Three days latter I was told Dr Verma "angrily" refused to provide the letter, so I am now stuck with the bill. Dr. Verma overprescribes medication and does not take any responsibility for her mistakes. If you ask too many questions (even during an appointment), she will fail to answer them, get frustrated, and end services. She is incompetent and offers lackluster care. For the past year this office will only book televisits. They won't refill Rxs until you've had a visit, and gee, surprise, the office is always booked and the only thing available is a televisit. Okay, I have nodules that for probably 20 years, have always been physically checked during every 6 month office visit I have ever had. When my other endo closed her practice, this one put me on an every 3-month schedule. For the first year I had physical office visits, after that it has been strictly televisits. It's a 3 minute visit and she goes over my lab results--um, my regular physician can interpret my lab results for me, so why are Medicare and my secondary insurance paying for this? Two televisits ago she told me to go get a biopsy--again, not based on any physical examination, and the only place I could go to have this done was in Silver Spring--apparently no one does thyroid biopsies anywhere else (really?). After trying to book an in-office visit today, which is so far out, my Rxs run out, then being told by the girl who answers the phone that I can't have my Rxs refilled without having a visit so I need to have a televisit, and only then can she put me on a cancellation list to get an in office visit sooner (and it is my responsibility to remember to cancel the televisit within 48 hours), nope--I'M DONE! I'll find another endocrinologist who cares enough to actually see a patient in the office visit and perform the necessary physical exams. This office not only tried to charge me a $50 cancellation fee but they also refused to let me re-schedule my appointment. This practice refused to see my transgender partner. My partner was referred by his primary care doctor to see Anju Verma to track his hormones, and to renew prescriptions he has been on for five years. They denied him an appointment because the doctors don't see gender dysphoria or transgender care as medically necessary. This is outrageous, it's 2020 not 1995. Get with the times!!!! Hormone therapy for Gender dysphoria is a medical necessity! Made an appointment here over the phone and was told it would be $200 for the initial visit if I did not have insurance. So i drove out almost an hour to see Dr. Verma, and when i got there the receptionist told me it would be $300. I told her i was told $200 and that is all i brought with me. I asked if i could be billed the rest and she refused even though i drove so far to get here. That's is some really crappy service if you ask me. Needless to say I will not be making another appointment with this doctor. After leaving I made another appointment with a different doctor in Rockville and I told the receptionist that I only had 200 dollars, and she said that was fine I could be billed the rest. Absolutely the WORST practice I've ever dealt with. Dr. Verma and that whole office clearly hates interacting with their patients. I had a simple time-sensitive question that would take 30 seconds to answer. I had to spend an entire day arguing with the secretary via email. She finally called at the end of the day and answered a question that I didn't even ask. When I did ask the real question, the secretary herself started giving me advice! In addition, nobody picks up on their main line, and instead there's a recording saying to text a different number. When you text, they say to send an email. When you send an email, they say to send a message through the portal. If you're locked out of the portal, it says to call the main number. If you ask for portal help via email, they say sorry there's nothing we can do to help you. I actually had to drive to the office to reach someone, which is something a doctor should NOT be encouraging during COVID! I also showed up 20 minutes early as instructed, and when I arrived she said they are out to lunch and locked me out of the building until my appointment time. Health issues are stressful enough without the doc adding to it with a completely dysfunctional office. read more

I have been seeing her for a while because I have no time to look for another. On my last televisit, she was 15 minutes late and when I asked a question, she replied that she had other patients to see and had no time to answer. For real, you were the one late. Every time I had an appt., she would basically scolded me like a child because I wasn't good at taking my numbers and insulin. Asking to have medication changed and told that the meds were similar and did nothing to change. Calling her office to notify you were in the parking lot, during the height of COVID, you would get a recording and have to listen to the options before getting connected to someone at the desk, 5 minutes later. I lost about 15-20 lbs and her reply was, to lose more weight. I have a doctor to help with my sugar and insulin regimen, someone for support and alternative methods if the current ones are not working. She only dictates what to do not working with you and only changes insulin amount. I have several friends that feel the same, no support just dictated on what to do, no bending. The front desk staff (Tyriha) won't let me get a new prescription for my needed daily diabetes/autoimmune disease medication unless I come in for an appointment, although said I I won't be able to schedule an appt for 2 weeks. No sympathy here or understanding of providing for their patients. I have to go to my primary care physician to obtain the prescriptions (which they will give me 3+ months of meds instead of what Dr. Verma's office prescribes, where they only give one month at a time (because they get more money apparently). Sadly the front staff charged my card on file without my permission and a front desk woman told me to "get another doctor if I didn't like their policies". Money hungry business. Normal information given at appointment, Dr. Verma is thorough and nice, but the front staff is so rude, especially Tyriha/DHC Staff, I believe her name is, that I will not be coming back. Very unprofessional front desk lady and unfriendly policies, especially towards someone who has to come in more than once a month due to medical conditions. 0/5 recommend unless she finds one new front desk staff member and changes the policies to be geared towards full time working adults with health problems. Also, she charged my friend who went to her for $50 when she missed her appointment, but when the doctor cancelled the appointment (less than 24 hour warning) and my friend charged the doctor a $50 charge, she didn't pay. Let me start off by saying Dr. Verma is a very sweet lady. She was very kind. The only problem I had with her was I was referred to her for a potential thyroid problem. At my first appointment I was told I was too far along in pregnancy for any treatment. At this appointment I was charged a co-pay of $35, which is my usual co-pay amount for specialist. Then I was called to come back in for another appointment. At this time I thought it would be for something different, however at the next appointment I was told the SAME thing having to pay another $35 co-pay for the same information I was already told at the first appointment. I could have saved $35 and a trip there if it was just said over the phone. The real problem I have lay with her incompetent receptionist staff. First off they're really young, not saying that's a super bad thing but they could sure use more training. I got an email saying I was going to be charged $20 additional dollars. Not explaining why, just saying I was. I called the office staff and they told me that they could not figure out why. I told them that I needed a better answer, I was then placed on hold for about 10 mins. When she got back on the phone she told me that she still could not figure out why I was being charged and that it had to be some sort of mistake. She then assured me that she would stop the $20 transaction from happening. A few days go by and I look at my bank statement and see that I was still charged the $20. I call the office back and the young lady that picked up the phone was VERY rude. She kept trying to talk over me and cut me off. Then put me on hold as I was still talking. When she got back in the phone she tried to tell me that the problem was with my insurance. I've never had a billing problem with my insurance before and I assured her it was not the case. She then put me back on hold, came back on the phone and said she "THINKS" the problem is with the insurance, but she's still not sure.
