We had our violin repaired here and the shop did a very poor job and charged us too much for it. We had gotten it appraised at other locations stating that more would need to be done to actually repair it sufficiently. They did not recognize what needed to be done, repaired it inadequately and we had a much worse violin afterwards that essentially ruined its value. We would have been much better off having paid a bit more and having it done right. The owner is also not kind, not forthcoming and difficult to get a straight answer from. Won't be returning here unfortunately. read more

I went here as a complete beginner to rent my first violin and get started. I've also been back on two occasions for help tuning and to buy some necessary accessories. Every time I've been in the staff has been super helpful and very nice. The violin rental seemed moderately priced. The only reason it's not getting 5 stars is because it's small and the music selection is a little bit slim. Other than that it is great! Very positive experience. read more

I took a valuable cello to Oren and he first claimed to have "lost it", then claimed it was abandoned property, then claimed he tried to return it to me, but I failed to recognize it!!! I believe he sold it and tried to weasel out of it. Had to take him to court. Yet to pay the judgement. We will be back on court if he does not pay up in 30 days. I would NEVER recommend this shop to anyone. Not ever. read more

I had a very difficult experience with them in getting paperwork they had said they would provide. Multiple phone calls and even in person visits did not end up with a happy ending. My Eastman violin, purchased from this co., did not have a label on it indicating that it was actually an Eastman. The owner claimed that for a few years Eastman produced violins with no indicating markers. When I asked if she could provide a certificate of ownership, which would identify the violin by the number on the bridge, the owner said she would do so. Every time I asked her if she would do it, she said she would - and yet no certificate was received. I was visiting her at her West Lebanon location, and she kept telling me she had to print the certificate in her Burlington location. Very unreliable. Also, if you are looking to get an Eastman, you can do far better by purchasing elsewhere. Too late I learned that we paid far too much. read more

I have been going to Vermont Violins for several years now. I bought a lovely restored fiddle from them as well as several bows. I have had repair work on a bow done and I am currently renting a Cello from them as well. I just called them this morning about purchasing an electric fiddle. They have three locations and I have only ever been to the one in W. Lebanon so keep that in mind. It is a small shop but I have always found whatever I needed. The music selection is small but that is not their primary focus, there are plenty of places to buy music online and in music shops. They really focus on the sale of string instruments and the things you need to go with those instruments. They have an onsite luthier as well as an assortment of cases, fiddles, cellos, bows, chin rests, rosins etc etc. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly and even when I was a dead on beginner I never felt uncomfortable. The in house financing of large purchases is fantastic (why use my money when I can use theirs at no interest) and being able to use most of the rental fees toward the purchase of an instrument is great. When I have needed something they did not have in stock they brought it down from the larger stores quickly.... I am very impressed and will continue to do business with them and would highly recommend them to others. read more

I went to Vermont Violins in West Lebanon because I had some general work (just a cleaning and adjustments) done on my violin in late summer 2014 at a different violin shop outside of Boston but when I got it back it sounded out of character and NOT like my instrument. Devastated, I kept trouble shooting on my own, changing strings again (thinking that the strings the place used might have been dead) and other things to try to get my sound back. After months of playing and even performing with this instrument that I felt alienated from, I remembered seeing Vermont Violins in West Lebanon about a year ago when I was in W. Lebanon for something else. Since I was reluctant to return to the establishment that I felt ruined my violin, I emailed Alex at Vermont Violins. He was delightful over email and more so in person. The Luthier at Vermont Violins, Ed, was fabulous. He took one look at my violin and knew the sound post was not in the right place. In fact, it was so far away from where it should be, he said that was likely the culprit. I left my violin with Alex for a short time and when I picked it up, he said he adjusted its position. He also checked it out to make sure nothing else was wrong. I played my instrument there and just began to cry because it was back and even sounded better than it did before the problem started! This was the embarrassing part....I just became emotional. What I left out is that I am new to NH, relatively speaking. The Luthier that worked on my violin since the 1990s passed away a short time ago. While his shop is in Southern New Jersey, I could no longer return there for service unless I planned a trip to NJ, so I knew I had to find another Luthier that I could trust but after being in NH for ten years now, I haven't found one until now. I am more than pleased with Vermont Violins from their professionalism to their expertise and craftsmanship. I will use Vermont Violins in West Lebanon again and again and I recommend them and their Luthier services without any hesitation. Now, if I could only stop crying when I play my violin. I hadn't realized how important she is in my life and I am SO grateful that I contacted Vermint Violins when I did. They brought her back to me and the experience was simply awesome. From our first cello rental experience for our daughter (then in 5th grade, soon to be in 10th), to a second rental, followed by a purchase and upgrade, working with Alex has been a pleasure. I am a student at Dartmouth, and needed to get my violin bow re-haired. After a quick google search I found Vermont Violins. They were super friendly, I got my bow back within a few days, and the work was exceptional. I would definitely recommend them for any violin work or anything violin-related you might need. Located in the Powerhouse Mall. The only negative I have is they aren't open on Sundays (being a busy college student this would've been the easiest day to come.) read more
