I have to echo Charnice here. Honestly, if you can, I'd really try to find another storage facility other than HTV if you can. I've used them three times as a student, and the first time was okay, but the second time and third times I've had issues. The second time I used them they forgot to take away one of the boxes in my room, which was fine - honest mistake, so I called them back and they picked it up the next day. However, when I got back to campus and scheduled my drop-off, they forgot one of my boxes again. I called them to tell them this happened, and it was probably due to the mistake in pick-up, but they immediately took a strange tone with me, acting as if I wasn't telling the truth, when the documentation I'd signed clearly stated I had 6 boxes, and I told them I'd only received five of them. hey asked me what was in it, I told them, gave them the sticker number on the box (which also had my name on it in several places) and they again were condescending "Are you sure?" "It had a TV in it? Really? You sure?" "(Before even checking) I don't think we have that." They said they'd find it and deliver it to me the next day. The next day, I heard nothing from them, so called them again. I was on hold forever, had to leave messages twice, and they seemed bothered by me, even though I was the one missing my items! They promised once again to deliver the box, and yet again, they did not. Each time I had to waste my time waiting around for them to never come. Finally, my mother got fed up, called and gave them a piece of her mind about how long it had taken and how upsetting their unreliability was. It took all that for them to finally deliver the box, which they just ended up dumping outside my door without any call, knock, or notice. Incredibly rude. The final time I had to use them for storage, the pick up was fine, but when I called to schedule my drop-off, they again acted as if I was inconveniencing them! What? They state you can have your items dropped off whenever you need them, but when I asked for a specific date, the person I spoke to got exasperated and complained to me that he couldn't do it then. i suggested another date. Couldn't do it. Then, I asked when was convenient for them (lol) and they gave me a day that wasn't acceptable for me. Finally, we settled on a time that was the only option for me and I got the same snarky attitude. In the end, I got my stuff, but I don't think I'll ever do business with them again. Their pricing isn't that great, their customer service is terrible, and it's really annoying to pay so much and get treated so poorly. If you can, definitely find an alternative. read more

DO NOT USE TRUE VALUE FOR MOVING / STORAGE!! They are a rip-off and try to take advantage of Dartmouth students! I was switching apartments and had 2 weeks in between moving out of my current apartment and moving into my new one. I called around and told the storage companies what I wanted to place in storage for those 2 weeks: a futon and a computer desk. True value gave me a quote for what I thought was a reasonable price, given the items that I wanted to store. As such, I set up the appointment and they picked up my stuff. I signed a paper that listed the items that I was putting in storage and thought no more about the price since I had a quote and none of the items I was putting in storage changed. BIG MISTAKE. When I checked my back account a day, I was charged 3x the price that I was originally quoted. I called True Value immediately to figure out why I was charged so much. After getting the run around, I finally spoke to someone "in-charge." They proceeded to tell me that my items were oversized and that each required its own 5x5 pallet. Mind you, my computer desk was no more than 2.5 feet wide and 1.5 feet deep--this with my futon could have fit on 2 pallets at the most. I told them that the price was ridiculous and that I had called before to get a quote and to confirm the cost. I told them that I wanted a refund and my stuff back since the paper that I signed did not mention anything about no refunds. However, True Value was unapologetic and did not believe that someone who worked for them would ever give me that quote--basically calling me a liar. They told me that I still had to pay the one month cost no matter if they gave me my stuff back or not. After I got my stuff delivered, I requested a receipt that had all the costs itemized. The delivery man could not provide this. As such, I kept track of all the interactions I had with them trying to get the breakdown of all the charges: 7/1-Delivered furniture 7/7-Called to request receipt of furniture 7/13- Called again to request an itemized receipt. Spoke to Dan, who couldn't find it can't find it at that moment and would send me an email after we hang up 7/15- Never received an email, so I called again. Ron answered and said Dan was out on deliveries, but will let him know i called 7/22 - Called again and a girl answered, forwarded me to Mike's phone since he was not in. I left a message and the girl said she would email him to make sure he follows up with me 8/2-Finally spoke to mike, said he mailed the receipt when he returned from vacation. I asked him when that was, but he couldn't remember, so he said he would put another copy in the mail 8/3 - Finally received copy of receipt / contract. When I looked at the receipt I was originally given and the receipt that True Value had I noticed that it was only after I signed it that they added on the price. My copy did not have prices, but theirs did. True value is a rip-off and I would encourage others not to use their services! read more

If you ever need to ship art or fragile objects, Hanover True Value is the place. I took my 29" x 29" painting there to be shipped to Texas, and they confidently packed the painting. The painting arrived safely, and I was happy, because they have very reasonable packing service prices. I only paid $50 for the packing service~ other places (In New York City, Boston, etc.) were quoting me ridiculous amounts of hundreds of dollars.) And Hanover True Value is a local, family-run business. Great people, great service. I highly recommend it. read more

We needed a few items for the big college move-in. To my surprise HTV pretty much has everything one needs to set-up a dorm room (except sheets) and while it might not be as inexpensive as BB&B or Walmart (FYI: Walmart is just awful) it is beyond convenient with better prices, quality of merchandise and assortment than the local CVS. I can't forget how knowledgable the staff is... the gentleman that helped us knew everything that was and was not allowed int the Dartmouth dorms (no halogen bulbs, only certain floor lamps that they have, no room heaters, etc...). I also like that I'm supporting an independent local business in lieu of another corporate giant! read more

The service is more than helpful. I stopped by the other evening to mail several UPS packages. I missed the UPS pickup, which I didn't know was at 5 pm. One of my packages had to be in Boston the next day and I asked about my options. Mike offered to to deliver my packages to the Olcott center before the last pickup. Mike, you are the best! Never fails that our kids' have finals up until the last day and the closest school controlled storage units are full. Hanover Hardware makes life so much easier for us -- they pick up the boxes right from our kids' rooms. I wish they delivered to their rooms but they do deliver to the front door of the dorm. Since they charge by pallet, the key is to use plastic stackable bins or boxes so that things fit tighter. My kids typically have about 8 bins and frig which fits one 4'x4'x4' pallet. We live 3,500 miles from Hanover so Hanover HW is a lifesaver. read more
