Dr. Veronica has been our family doctor for a number and years. She is a great physician and human. She takes the time necessary to find the root cause of any disease. I would recommend her to anyone, however, the patient has to be honest and tell all the symptoms as it should be. I will recommend Dr. Sutherland to everyone. read more

Dr. Sutherland became my PCP after I moved to Reno. I find her thorough and willing to answer all my questions. I am 64 and she insisted that I get a colononscopy. This was fortunate for me because they ended up removing a large pre-cancerous polyp that had a high possibility of becoming cancer. I had the worst experience today ever with a medical doctor/facility. I have never left a negative review in my life, but after today's experience, I feel I must. I work for a company that switched insurances on me a few times in the past 2 years, and unfortunately for me my insurance switched back to St Marys, in which I needed to find a new doctor. I decided to find a new doctor because my doctor I had with St Marys previously wasn't a great match for me, I Certainly didn't expect a second round. Personally I need a Doctor Who is kind, compassionate and caring I hope this isn't a trend with St Marys..? Dr Marie McCormack with United healthcare Renown was / is the best doctor I've ever had in my lifetime! I Went in for my first appointment Today. After over 45 minutes of waiting past my appointment time, I was escorted by the doctors assistant to the examination room, and this started my very unexpected hurtful mind blowing experience I am sharing today. Pretty much the first words out of her assistance mouth was rude, unkind / angry defensive like, and with no compassion said to me.. you are a transfer from one of St Mary's doctors to us and that I need you to know this is very unethical, in which I replied what do you mean. She went on to say they don't allow/ do transfers, again said this Is highly unethical, and said that the doctor I had a year or so ago, I should've gone back to.. this is not how St Marys works. I then I said I'm sorry I take offense to What you are saying and that a patient should have a right to choose who they want to see as a primary care physician and it was not my intention to offend anyone.. I then explained I had United healthcare prior with a different doctor before choosing another doctor with St Marys Etc. Oh my goodness it went on from there I was offended, hurt and Felt like everybody was angry at me and quite confused!! I wanted to get up and walk and out I should have, but I thought I'll give the doctor a shot. The doctor came in..she wasn't much kinder in fact as our conversation went on she also said it is not ethical and asked me why I'm switching doctors.. I gave her my explanation and it just didn't go too well At all!! I was completely blown away, in fact more angry at myself that I allowed it!! What I should've said to them both...I'm not unethical but the way I'm being treated is! !! I left that office in tears and again angry at myself that I didn't speak up More. I did tell the doctor I felt your assistant was very unkind and rude to me, and I feel you don't even want me here..in which the doctor said well now that I know why you switch doctors..I'll go ahead and have you as a patient but proceeded to say I'm not taking transfers/ new patients so we were just confused... how welcoming. The time I spent with the doctor it was obvious she was upset with me too so that made it very uncomfortable. I felt uncared for, no bedside manner or kindness and I felt like everybody was angry with me. At some point I started to think and got the impression they thought I was shopping doctors? at one point In my conversation, the doctor told me we don't prescribe pain meds, I guess it's because one of my many medical issues I deal with on a daily basis is chronic pain, however, I don't take pain meds and have elected not to. Needless to say very hard day today and for me disappointing and sad. My feelings were hurt pretty badly, I was miss treated by a professional organization that I was so looking forward to meeting, and was blamed and looked upon with anger and disrespect.. and I have never experienced anything like this Before! This is hard for me because I love people very much and always give the benefit of the doubt, even if things don't start off well but today was a huge challenge for me! At one point I told the doctor that her assistant was a rude and unkind to me, and I was very offended / confused... No apology just a lot of words of why it was done. If you want a doctor with the capability of compassion/kindness/ caring I did not find it with this office! Now that I'm being told I'm an ethical because I'm switching doctors after over a year of not having St Marys coverage, and because I didn't go back to my original doctor... I don't know what to do, Because I do have a few medical issues that requires care, so I'm calling the supervisor contact I was given by a very compassionate phone agent I spoke with today to figure out what this, as they said unethical gal should do in finding a doctor with St Marys without being Title or scorned as a Dr. Jumper unbelievable. I am a Christian woman I struggled with doing a reviewer, after a horrible day at work Afterwards, emotionally drained and feeling horrible about myself because they felt that way about me...I felt I should..I think that's the reason I stayed because I wanted to give the doctor a chance...worst visit/experience.. STAY clear of this doc as she is less then friendly and not helpful at all. I was trying to find a new doc and she is close to home. She thought I should come in every 30 days to refill a prescription I have been on for 7 years(non-narcotic). I suspect she was planning on billing my really good insurance policy $300 a month for a $10 prescription. She made me feel terrible about my existing health issues almost as if it was my fault I was sick. I left there very upset and never went back. I got lucky and found a new doc that is awesome and very helpful. Just remember folks, you DO NOT have to listen to any doc, go with your gut and if things don't feel right, find someone that you can trust and that is not just in it for the money. read more

Difficult to see and not very open minded. After establishing as a patient 4 years ago, could never get same day appointment the few times I was sick. Always told to go to Urgent Care -- difficult to establish a doctor-patient rapport that way. After a recent follow-up to an Urgent Care visit when I *finally* got into to see her, I realized our personalities just don't mesh. Found her less than friendly and extremely unbending. I've since switched to a new practice. read more

Dr. Sutherland is my family doctor. She takes care of my husband, myself and my two elderly parents. Obviously, we all have very different health issues and Dr. Sutherland's knowledge is inexhaustible. She is direct and understanding; exactly what my family needs. Andrea Butters, APN is extremely knowledgeable, compassionate, and professional. The best Primary Care provider that I have ever had. She truly cares about her patients. Having spent 20+ years in healthcare myself, I am very particular about who I will allow to treat me. I would recommend anyone to Andrea. Dr. Sutherland is also an excellent practitioner. read more

I am an established patient, not by choice but because she is one of the few accepting Medicaid in our area. We were forced into the Medicaid system because of the Obamacare law and not allowed to buy normal insurance. I need a prescription (non narcotic) refilled for one originally written by my gastroenterologist 4 years ago and has since moved to Elko (and seen before being on Medicaid). She REFUSES to write a new script for the same med. She told me to go back to the original prescriber. So, apparently I must drive 300 miles to Elko for an appointment to get a new script written?? The insurance company and Medicaid says I must go through my primary provider. Well, how on earth can I get these meds if she refuses to provide the prescription?? This is so horribly wrong on many levels. I am questioning how she can continue to be licensed!! If this condition comes back because of her negligence, be assured legal avenues WILL be explored!!! I can't get an appointment with a new doc sooner than 2 months out. Meanwhile, I will be off my meds. Disaster is looming on the horizon.... :( read more

Dr. Sutherland herself is an amazing doctor and wonderful to work with... if you ever actually get to work with her. Her staff is horrible, no one ever seems to answer the phones and maybe half of messages get returned. They also seem to always make things much more complicated than they should be (example, you would think that a health questionnaire that explicitly states is to be completed based on the information from the most recent physical, no new physical required, would be a simple matter of a records review, yet her staff refuses to even look at the form until you have scheduled a full physical appointment). If Dr. Sutherland were to replace her staff I would recommend her in a heartbeat, she is a good doctor, but not good enough that you can't find alternatives with more helpful staff. read more

Dr. Sutherland herself is fine. She is down to earth, sensible and competent, but her staff is (What words can I use here and still get printed? Think of a nasty word that would be censored and that is perhaps the one I was thinking of using.) Andrea Butters,Dr. Sutherland's nurse practitioner, is rushed, inaccurate, unhelpful, and she has a poor memory for what she said she would do. She basically asked me for a diagnosis and plan of action for my medical problem. My record there is mostly inaccurate and cannot be corrected apparently. Ms. Butters made no attempt to diagnose, explain, find out anything. She did give me the referrals I asked for, but I was hoping for a more educated opinion than my own and a more informed plan of action.. Since she was uninterested in my medical condition and had no time for anything but small parts of my opinion, she was of absolutely no help to me. There are probably angels among the (expletive) who work in this office. I don't want to paint them all with the same brush, but finding the (expletive) is easy. I recommend getting medical advice from your bartender, drug dealer, snake oil salesman or mother-in-law rather than from Ms. Butters. read more

I saw this physician in Urgent Care. My son got a ring stuck on his finger and this Dr. was so condescending and subtle with her many insults concerning the stuck ring until I went from being angry with my 18 year old for his stupidity to feeling sorry for him. Although the finger was swollen, my son had mobility and feeling so obviously, this situation was serious but not tragic. It is not a doctor's place to promote fear (suggesting the loss of a finger) nor to form judgement against their younger patients. I realize due to the ignorant nature of a stuck ring, she felt the need to stress the seriousness of this problem although us being there should have penetrated this illogical reasoning. Might I remind this Dr. Sutherland that bedside manner is still important to the patient even if it may no longer be stressed nor taught in the medical industry (I'm not sure). Please try to encourage the patient because on our journey to the referred emergency room, I had to reassure my son (a wrestler who doesn't show much emotion) that he wouldn't lose a finger and to IGNORE all negative suggestions. I need also suggest that the powers that be staff stronger personnel in case some muscle is needed for a patient. To travel to Emergency from Urgent Care and have them use the EXACT same ring cutting tool you were too weak to use is not right. I'm sure they are aware of the significant costs between Urgent Care and Emergency copay so try to be a little more helpful. You should have just admitted you weren't strong enough to cut the stupid thing off. I almost asked to let me have a try because I would have had that thing off in no time flat but that was just too inappropriate. Anyway, all turned out well. A nice "runner" named Frank at Renown on Mill St. cut the ring off in 5 minutes and we were on our way with swelling down within the hour. This place gets two stars instead of one because the receptionist was friendly and because they called me and redirected me to an emergency room with the "ring cutting tool". read more

Dr. Sutherland is rude, condescending and dismissive. I thought that maybe my first impression was harsh and that, like all humans, she was having a bad day. Based on the reviews that I have read, it seems to be her personality. Who wants to deal with a harsh personality in a medical setting? Not me. read more

Terrible Receptionist!!! When I tried to make an appointment she said, No, I owed money. After 3 hours talking to Billing & Collections, I was told I didn't owe any money. I called back to make appointment and the Receptionist, oops, you're right. On my appointment day, I checked in at 9:59 for my 10:00 appointment, was given update forms. When I turned them back in, the Receptionist said, "It took you too long, now you're late, so you will need to reschedule. It took 3 days of calling often to finally get them to answer to make the first appointment. Once I had a 104 fever & my mom had to drive down there to make an appointment because they didn't answer the phone in 2 days. There is never more than1 or 2 people in the waiting room & I have to sit there for 1 hour to be seen. To think I was very sick & it took me 15 min to fill out the update forms, & they wouldn't see me. I am looking for a new Dr. read more

I usually see the nurse practitioner and had seen Dr Sutherland once probably a year or so ago. She was very nice then. I saw the Dr earlier this week and she was extremely unfriendly and completely lacked any compassion. Her nurse was the same way. It was as if they were annoyed that I was there. It's now the end of the week and I am still waiting for an answer on what our next step is to make me better. She also told me that a specialist I wanted a referral to wouldn't deal with the possible condition I may have when in fact I spoke with a nurse at the specialists office and she told me that Dr Sutherland was wrong and that they deal with those problems all of the time. She also didn't want to give me a referral to the specialist at that time because they were scheduling 2+ weeks out. Well it's been almost a week and I've gotten no plan of action from Dr Sutherland and no referral to the specialist. I'm beyond angry as I've been through the ringer with doctors this last month and she's only making it worse! I will be changing doctors! read more
