We could see the Vessel while on a boat tour of Manhattan, so naturally it sparked my interest. We headed to Hudson Yards in hopes of going up to The Edge viewing platform as well. But, it was closed due to rain, lightning and near zero visibility. The rain also ruined an attempt to experience the Vessel itself, which is essentially another viewing platform. Further research revealed that safety netting was installed from level 3 and up, and the top 3 levels never reopened after multiple s*icides. A disappointment. It's right by Edge, which I did, so I figured, why not? Honestly, it was a waste. You're better off just taking pictures of it from the outside of it, don't bother with admission to it. The views aren't that great, and it's a 20-minute wait for the elevator. And although there are obviously stairs, its like a M.C. Esher painting come to life. Skip the admission, snap some pictures from the outside of it and move on with your day. read more

According to the website free tickets are available for NYC residents every Thursday. Tickets are available to New Yorkers online only, will require proof of residency using photo ID, and based on availability. I didn't know free tickets are available. It is currently closed for the season, but you can still walk pretty close to it, take photos, and hang out in the grounds of Hudson Yards. Going doing the weekday and during the day is probably best to avoid crowds. I love how each angle gives a different unique background of the New York buildings! Just realized that I can ACTUALLY REVIEW THE VESSEL. Guys, I have been trying to get up on this thing for YEARS, but when it first opened it was SWAMPED and then it kept closing. I had given up and shoved it from my mind, but learned a couple of weeks ago that it's been open for some time! So me and family, all of us who had never been up here, went on up on Christmas Eve. THE GOOD: It's actually a pretty magical experience, with the festive decor of the mall on one side, the dazzling trees filled with lights below on the other side, and of course, great views of the city I love. It wasn't crowded at all and was actually quite peaceful. I only encountered one girl who wanted Instagram pics, taking off her coat and posing in a little sweater and skirt while someone bent over backwards to take her photos and all I could think was BRRR COULDN'T BE ME. THE BAD: We paid about $17 to go up. I think they raised the price from its initial beginnings, which wouldn't be SO bad EXCEPT FOR THE FACT THAT HALF OF IT IS BLOCKED OFF (thankfully, this did not affect the current crowd level). This was absolutely the worst gripe about it. They don't tell you anywhere that you can only access half the Vessel. YES, you can get to pretty much the top, but I don't see the point in blocking off half the structure unless you're going to cut the price in half too. Also, I would have loved to bring a cup of hot chocolate to enjoy up there, in the spirit of the season, but no drinks allowed unless it's clear in a PLASTIC container. Fine, I get them wanting to keep the structure as clean as possible and it was definitely pleasant up there. Also, the elevator that takes you up/down was out of sorts during our visit? Like, the operator kept saying it would take 30 minutes for the elevator to come up. My sister wanted to take it because she thought it would be a visually cool trip down as it looks like a little glass capsule. We did NOT wait the half hour for it come up, but it would have been cool to experience. I would LOVE to come back if they open the entire structure because the experience can be more than what it was! This would be a lovely thing to visit and hang out on in warmer weather (as long as they mitigated crowd level with timed tickets), just PLEASE open the entire thing! read more

A very interesting architectural structure to say the least. Very cool even at night. Not sure what the purpose of this vessel was made for but when we first came to see it back in 2022, it was raining and they would not allow us to go in. Of course, it's for a fee. We came back after several years with my family. We came to check it out as it was good weather to enter. Taking the elevator up takes too long and only up to 5 people at a time can go inside. It was faster walking up the stairs. Many of the paths going up were blocked off by wire fence . We couldn't even go to the very top or to see the water view as that was blocked off. There must have been a safety measure put in place or someone tried something stupid on here as now, no one can go to the top floor for the beautiful front Hudson water view. Below the front of the vessel was also a big screen TV to watch the soccer game with many by standers watching on lounging chairs. Maybe, that is why it was blocked off? For a touristy thing to do, this was good for a quick picture and good workout but not sure it would be worth the $15 price +$2 processing fee + tax to go up inside this bee like structure. Seriously? I get it has history. So does New York. Yet, with so much money sunk into what is actually a pretty amazing experience, it is sad that visiting here feels unfinshed. Stairs closed because not all areas have safety provisions. The top closed because it cannot be retrofitted? There has to be a better way. With that said, I would still consider it worth visiting. This is a beautiful piece of architecture and man-made attraction that has recently been added to the list of places to go in the New York City area. The elaborate honeycomb-like structure rises 150 feet and consists of 154 flights of stairs, 2,500 steps, and 80 landings for visitors to climb. It opened to the public on March 15, 2019. In January 2021, following three suicides at Vessel, it was closed to the public indefinitely. Vessel reopened in May 2021, then indefinitely closed again after another suicide two months later. It reopened in October 2024 following the installation of more safety barriers. Tickets are around $10-12 depending on the time you decide to go and they can be combined with nearby attractions like the Edge. The Vessel is a beautiful structure that's easily accessible from the street or the High Line, and it sits right outside Hudson Yards Mall. While it's certainly something to admire from the outside, I wasn't quite sure what to expect before entering, and you do have to go through a bag check and metal detector before you can head in. To put it simply, it's a hollow honeycomb-like structure with 16 flights of stairs, standing at about 150 feet tall. Once inside, the main things to do are take photos of the architecture itself or capture views of the city, the mall, and the surroundings through the wired netting. The biggest perk is really the workout, you'll definitely feel those 16 flights. In my opinion, the best time to visit is at night when the lights bring life to the city. When we arrived at the top, it was a bit disappointing. Half of the structure is closed off, and on the open side, the view is partially blocked by elevators, which takes away from the overall impact. The real accomplishment becomes reaching the top, rather than enjoying any views. read more

We didn't have time to do a proper visit, so we just took outside photos and admired its architecture. They have vendors around to grab a quick drink or snack. You can purchase tickets either in front of the Vessel by scanning the QR code which takes you to their website or you can purchase inside on level 4 at the kiosks for Edge. We didn't go into the Vessel, we only walked around it. It's large and beautiful. Even more so in person. It's near the Hudson River and there are some seating areas around so that you can just sit and relax some. And yes, there are some shady spots to escape the NY heat and sun. Starbucks is also just a skip away if you wanted to grab a drink to enjoy also. Looks like they do have accessibility options available for this also. read more

Where to begin! We first came here before this became the huge tourist attraction that it is. An evening visit, exploring each view plane and walking to the top level of the Vessel was a very thrilling experience. I love the creative energy that went into bringing this to life. Much like "the bean" in Chicago, this is something you just can't get enough of. Each trip to NYC must include a trip to the Vessel and Hudson Yards. I'm great fun to whomever brought this to life. According to our architectural tour guide from earlier in the day, it's "the world's largest brass trash basket." Either way, it's an attraction I wanted to see for myself, so I visited with my mom last weekend when we were in NYC for a mother/daughter trip. It's definitely striking. But I would put it in the category of other photo ops in NYC (the Edge, Summit, etc.). Not all of the staircases were open when we visited (many were roped off), so it felt a bit like we were trapped and limited to what we could see. We couldn't even get to the side that faces the Hudson River. We wandered up and down some of the staircases and took some photos, and that was it. Since it's not inexpensive, I'd put it down as one of those things you do once and then never again! You can also opt to take a look at it from the outside without paying the fee to go inside. Cool to do once, but I'm not adding it to my list of must sees in NYC. read more

Cool thing turned tourist trap. Came here in Sept of 2025, paid $37 for two tickets, we were told surge pricing for the weekend. We thought, like many, We would be getting 360 degree views of Hudson yard but found that half of the vessel was closed.....and the good part none the less that had views of the Hudson River! It appears that netting is being installed above the 3rd level so no access was granted. They don't seem to be in a hurry since a staff member told this started in in 2024. The elevator takes 3 minutes to go up/down but has a wait of about 20-30 minutes assuming no one is in front of you. It's fun to get in your steps and take photos along the way, the best photos are looking down but unfortunately not out. Big disappointment read more

There is a small fee to get in and it's possible to pay when you get there ! Stunning in bronze and has 80 landings and 154 flight if stairs at 150 feet ! Loved seeing this beautiful structure in person and also around the structure on the plaza were food trucks , Jumbotron airing the Canadian Open! The Vessel is located in Hudson Yard of NYC. By the time we got here, it was too dark to get on the Vessel, but if I'm being honest I'm not sure I would enjoy the heights and it was really pricey. Even if you don't plan on entering the Vessel it's still a beautiful structure to admire from afar. Plenty of people were doing photo and video shoots here at night. We went on a week day so there weren't many people ahead of us. After the full glass elevator ride up, we walked down the unique steps and took lots of photos of the skyline and Hudson River. The Vessel is where you can admire architecture and the views of the city from different angles over Hudson Yards. It is currently a $10 admission for visitors and you can purchase the tickets ahead of time online (with a +$2 processing fee) or right at the door for ten bucks. For NYC residents though, if you can book fast enough, they release a limited amount of free tickets online for every Thursday and just bring your proof of residence upon arrival to gain entrance. As they say, this is to be explored from the inside. Viewing it from the outside is already sufficient for some, but going into the Vessel and viewing it from inside out if definitely different. There is a safety check at security checkpoint at the door so its best to leave heavy bags/personal belongings at home if possible. With the network of interconnected staircases within, you can goto great heights if you wish! The stairs are aplenty and it can be a good workout if you plan to go. If you prefer taking the elevator, they do have limited space each ride but just wait in line for your turn. The Vessel also holds special events like Vessel Run, a HIIT-style workout which is instructor led. Pretty cool way to pump that adrenaline! As we know it, there had been several unfortunate instances where visitors had taken their own lives visiting this structure in the past decade, and now the Vessel has many safer barriers and security on every floor or stairwell to make sure it won't happen again. The topmost floor is not accessible anymore. I'm glad it's open to the public now and there are better safety measures. read more
