We rushed to Berks AES on Lancaster Ave. The staff there could not have been kinder to us, everyone showed great concern for our Rocco. Poor Rocco did not recover, but at such a sad time as that it was nice to know there were people doing everything they could to save him. We really can't say enough good things about the place. From Paige who checked us in to Dr. Melniczek who first saw Rocco to Dr. Brammer and Sue who were with us when Rocco passed, they were all so kind and understanding. I have found that this hospital is neither respectful towards nor cooperative with the owners of…read moresick animals. The desk people are rude and make cruel remarks about various owners behind their backs. If you ask too many questions about procedures, your inquiries won't be welcomed. Some of the veterinarians just want to talk down to you. My experience was veterinarians switching treatments abruptly from one shift to the next, only to go back to a prior treatments later. They waited three days to use a phosphate binder on my cat even though his phosphate level was already very high when admitted. That is pure malpractice. The veterinarians made wrong decisions and misdiagnoses on several occasions. For example, they missed by cat's heart murmur while filling him fluids. Vet after vet.... yet no one could hear a loud heart murmur. Simple questions, like did my cat eat today, drew conflicting answers from different doctors and technicians. I even had one veterinarian try to browbeat me into submission when I refer her to what a technician had to say. She called me a liar. Talk about poor public relations. As customary, they run up your bill for 4 or 5 days than discharge your animal telling you that they did everything that they could. This practice needs to be referred to PA State Board of Veterinary Medicine and any other state association for their practices. Instead of simply leaving bad reviews, I urge pet owners to take action.

My cat was very shy and scared of people, and would hiss and back into a corner. Prior to meeting Dr. Davis, my experience with vets was mostly them being very hands-off and not particularly thrilled to handle a scaredy cat. The very first time I met Dr. Davis and saw how she interacted with my cat, I was so touched. She spoke to her in a soft, sweet voice and wasn't afraid to touch or assess her. She handled my poor girl so gently and kindly. I knew I would never go anywhere else. The staff is also extremely kind and incredibly accomodating. They always got me in and while I sometimes had to wait a bit in the room before the doctor arrived, I also recognize that Dr. Davis took her time and provided thorough care to her patients. I never waited an unreasonable amount of time. The staff was very helpful in helping me get special food when I needed it and communicating about any changes in procedure to the office. The cost for care her is very reasonable and transparent. Anytime my cat had health issues, they were able to get us in relatively quickly. Doctor was also proactive in suggesting medications and care to improve my baby's quality of life as she reached her last few years and began to develop more health issues. On the day my poor girl became very ill, I called the office for an emergency visit. Dr. Davis was performing surgery on another animal, and the surgery was anticipated to continue for at least another hour or two. The staff told me they would talk to her and call me back. Within a few minutes, Dr. Davis called me herseld and explained apologetically that she would not be able to see my cat right away and based on her presentation, the doctor did not feel that my girl had the time to wait for her to become available. She was incredibly kind, soft, and compassionate while suggesting a differe t animal hospital. I took her advice and took my girl to the other hospital where she was taken care of promptly and treated very kindly and with dignity in her last moments of life. Even in the end, it was Dr. Davis's guidance that helped me give my cat a peaceful end instead of her suffering at home. I am beyond grateful for how my cat and myself were treated her and I hope to return to the practice when I'm ready for another pet. I would recommend this office to anyone.

Dr. dePlanque has cared for all my cats, rescued, and fostered since then. It's a small practice, as opposed to a multi Vet conglomerate, and I very much prefer taking my cats where we see the same Veterinarian at every visit. Over the years, he and his staff have always been professional, helpful, compassionate, and knowledgeable. Having no medical background of my own, I always ask a lot of questions; it's just my nature, and Dr. dePlanque has always taken the time to give me answers I can understand. I have never been disappointed in the care my cats received. Only because prices are so reasonable, could I afford to rescue, foster, and find good homes for so many cats and kittens over the years. They do not need marble columns, cathedral ceilings, and skylights. They simply need good care, and they get it. Year after year after year. I consider myself fortunate to have found the Dog and Cat Clinic and Dr. dePlanque. He and his staff are my cats' best friends, and I'm a forever client.
