We started the home buying process around February or March with a different company that I found online. I did very little research and didn't know what I was getting into with them. They spent a couple months trying but failing to get me pre approved. Over that time period there was little communication and when someone would return my call they were never forthcoming with information and treated me as if I was burdening them. I eventually gave up after numerous failed attempts to gain pre approval. In fact, I should say they gave up on me since they just quit contacting me all together. It's been months and I haven't heard anything from them.. I started the process over by doing research and ultimately chose to contact Veterans United home loans (VU). My initial contact with VU ended with me being disqualified due to my wife's low credit score and Texas being a community property state. At this point I started to come to grips with the fact that I would probably be a renter for quite a while longer. I then learned through further research that my wife's credit score should not have disqualified me from being approved for a loan. I called VU back and was connected with Shannon Buckridge who was knowledgeable on this topic and agreed that my wife's credit score was irrelevant and that only her debt needed be added to my loan application. Shannon was able to revive my loan application at which time I was sent to the department of secondary approval. Once my file was received I was assigned Adam Crutchfield as my mortgage specialist. Adam was quick to get me pre approved and remained in direct contact with me throughout the entire process. Adam had me pre approved and on to the next step in the process within a day or two of initial contact. Adam accomplished in two days what the above listed un named company failed to accomplish in two months (literally). Throughout the course of this process we ran into a few issues which Adam and Shannon both calmly and confidently walked me through to resolution. Everything from start to finish of this process happened exactly the way I was told it would with no hidden surprises. We may have had more riding on this mortgage than most first time home buyers as my wife recently became ill and we had to relocate to a new city. We've been living in the home we just purchased since we moved in January. If we were unable to buy this home then we would have been forced to move again as the home owner had someone else with more money and better credit lined up to buy the home if we failed to do so. I have heard so many complaints about this part of the homebuying process, but this most definitely was not one of those stories. Veterans United Home Loans took something that so many people dread and turned it into an extremely positive experience for me. Veterans United was the first and only loan servicer that I contacted, and I am so happy with my experience that I do not intend to search elsewhere for my next real estate purchase either, whenever that may be. I was in search of a VA Home Loan to purchase my first home, and I was directed to Veterans United through the Zillow app after answering a brief questionnaire about myself. A Loan Specialist, Kevin Redmond, was the first person that I spoke to. He briefly interviewed me to see what I was interested in and what I may be qualified for while pulling a credit inquiry for me. I was then later connected with my Loan Officer, Jess Vomund. She was extremely helpful throughout the whole process and was both willing and able to answer any question that I sent her way. The Transaction Officer, Heather Risenhoover, became my main contact point throughout most of the process, and she was great to work with and very helpful, as well. Jess, Heather, and Kevin were excellent to work with and had me taken care of throughout the whole process. All of our correspondence was either over the phone or through email, as the team is located in Missouri, but I am in Montana. I have never met Jess or her team in person, yet I felt very connected and cared for throughout the process. Their customer service in combination with the ease of doing everything online through the website made this whole thing a breeze for me. The website, email notifications, and to-do list feature were extremely helpful and easy to understand and use. I received multiple different education documents throughout the process, and the team was able to respond quickly to any questions that I had. This was especially nice for me with being a first-time homebuyer. I was so happy with the customer service experience that I had with this team that I did not feel I even needed to search elsewhere for my VA Home Loan. I even received some thank you and housewarming gifts from the team that were completely unexpected, and I really appreciated that. This process was a very scary process for me and my family as we are first time homebuyers. The team at the Colorado Springs branch office, lead my Alice, was amazing at every turn. They made sure I was always informed of every piece of information I could possibly need, answering me and my wife's millions of questions. No matter if they where in a meeting or actively available, they where still there to make sure no question was left unanswered, no idea or contingency plan was left unexplored or set in place. When first offers for a house where not accepted for the house that was our dream home, they didn't just throw in the flag and say "let's just try a different house" they, within minutes, had a new offer already planned out and briefed it to me with military precision and detail. We did not expect to be buying a home at this early of a stage in our life and my career in the Army, but they exercised the Army's Warrior Ethos of I will NEVER Quit and I will NEVER accept defeat, and made this mission of getting my family a great home a success. I was impressed with how well my VA loan was started and completed by Veterans United. These days customer service is not what most of us expect so, when I started with my loan officer Blake W I was skeptical when he told me 45 days is normal closing for him. The home I picked out was the one I had wanted for some time. It was a move in and live condition type of home except for a couple of things. 1) Last minute FEMA letter reflecting flood insurance was required 2) Last minute water and well pump issues. The real estate agent for seller ask for 2 week closing delay to correct these issues. The FEMA required flood insurance ended up a must have as the seller was not able to find the document he claimed as waiver of this requirement. The water had to be pulled and cleaned and a new submersable pump installed. These additional cost nearly sunk my loan as the flood insurance came to extra $100 per month and the water, well, pump cost was $2500.00. The seller agreed to pay first year of flood insurance and also the complete repair of well, water and pump. Through this last minute drama my loan officer stayed positive and reminded me things would turn out just fine. Although, due to seller issues, my closing was delayed 10 days my Veterans United loan officer was still able to get my deal closed as promised and I was moving in to my home before xmas 2012. That was MY goal to be in the home before xmas and Blake Woolard (my Veterans United loan officer) made it happen just like he had promised. Thank you so much to my Loan Team, It has been an AMAZING journey. As a first time home buyer I don't know what to expect. I was terrified the qualification process. My husband wanted to try a bank we had been doing business with for 4 years. The "loan office" for this bank did not even want to give us the time of day. He held on to our loan package for a week and did not do a thing. I personally had to go in and pull my paperwork from the loan officer's files. He kept telling me he did not have anything on us. This was my first time buying a home, and I would be lying if I said that I did not go into this process stressing from the jump and expecting the run around. Other representatives would not assist me and simply told me the policy was no longer with them. By the time I reached Crystal, my stress level was extremely high and I felt very frustrated. Greetings- We moved to Central Florida having been preapproved for a home loan by Veterans United prior to relocating. Shane Lowe is also a Veteran with a family and truly gave us the most awesome service and he and Addie Burr made the process so easy and seamless for us. They gave us incredible direction and made it so smooth and understandable. We had no idea where in the greater Orlando area we wanted to live.
