He told me they were long time customers and the pictures with the black dots denoted that they were no longer living. They seem to live on though because they are the ones that are the subjects of the stories told in the Silver Dollar. The museum - if you can call it that - is rather small. It's just one room with a handful of displays and videos, which are quite interesting. But the real excitement comes during the tour, when you actually enter the smokejumpers' work space, where you will see these highly specialized firefighters hard at work - mending their gear, packing their parachutes, etc. We had the opportunity to speak to a couple of them and get their personal perspective of the work they do. We went through their gear room, watched them load up equipment for their next mission, and walked out to the tarmac to get up close to their aircraft. I enjoyed every moment. Our tour guide and engaging, enthusiastic, and very knowledgeable. There is no admission fee for the museum or the tour, but they accept donations. After this experience, I was happy to make a contribution.
