The museum - if you can call it that - is rather small. It's just one room with a handful of displays and videos, which are quite interesting. But the real excitement comes during the tour, when you actually enter the smokejumpers' work space, where you will see these highly specialized firefighters hard at work - mending their gear, packing their parachutes, etc. We had the opportunity to speak to a couple of them and get their personal perspective of the work they do. We went through their gear room, watched them load up equipment for their next mission, and walked out to the tarmac to get up close to their aircraft. I enjoyed every moment. Our tour guide and engaging, enthusiastic, and very knowledgeable. There is no admission fee for the museum or the tour, but they accept donations. After this experience, I was happy to make a contribution.

I played a friendly tournament here and I remember it being very challenging because of the trees surrounding the fairways. I distinctly remember one hole being very close to the other so you have to make sure you hit it on the right fairway. All in all, I enjoyed my experiences here and I'm looking forward to more experiences here in the future without paying the annual fee!

The museum grounds contain a number of different historic buildings with short plaques discussing their previous use. I do not think the Historical Museum at Fort Missoula is an important stop on your itinerary, but it is worth a stop if you are in Missoula for a couple days.

This seemed to be the area most popular with kids (you should have seen them run to that fire lookout tower!). They apparently have working sawmill demonstrations every now and again. There is also a museum with a $1-3 admission fee and several other restored buildings (cottages, carriage house, schoolhouse, church, etc). We were on a tight schedule so we didn't wander over to these areas.
