We'll start with the extreme safety precautions that are taking place here (think of TSA or jail) - you must have a face mask - security check point (take off your belt, leave your electronics, keys, etc. before going through) - about 5+ guards, 2 inside the waiting area and the rest in the security checkpoint Once you make it through security, you'll need to go to one of the kiosks and check in. Once you're checked in there, you'll be called to one of the windows to do another check in. At that point I had waited about 30 mins. When I checked in with one of the reps at the window I was told it would be another 30-45 min. Overall wait time wasnt too bad, about an 1hr 45 in total for not having an appointment. While waiting, you are not allowed to take phone calls in the waiting area and its library quiet. Your ticket number will blink on the tv display as your notification. Overall an okay place, but the experience was extremely sterile and uninviting.

I have slacked off a bit so having a moment to catch up was truly needed. Let's see how it turned out. The library itself is well kept. From the areas I walked in, everything was clean and books were in place. When you enter, there are automatic sliding doors and metal detectors. In the desk area, they even have plugs if you want to charge your phone or laptop, which definitely came in handy for yours truly. I spent the next hour or so reading a book from home or checking out news on my phone. Quiet time well spent before hanging out with friends. Libraries are needed for peace and relaxation and this one provided both. The next time I'm in the area for another event, I'll be sure to stop here :)

The marker reads: "This shrine commemorates the Susan Constant, the flagship of the fleet that carried the first English settlers to Virginia in 1607. The Susan Constant, a 120-ton vessel, was built in 1605 and made one voyage to Spain before the Virginia Company of London chartered it. Captained by Christopher Newport, the Susan Constant, Godspeed, and Discovery sailed from London on 20 Dec. 1606 and arrived nearby off the Virginia capes on 26 Apr. 1607. The colonists erected a cross claiming the land for England, explored the James River for a suitable settlement site, and planted the first permanent English colony at Jamestown on 14 May 1607."
