This VA is utterly useless if you are fat, trans or need mental health services. I was told by…read morestaff and other trans folk veterans not to see the endocrinologist there because he is blatantly transphobic and dangerous. I have to travel almost 2 hours away to see a VA Endo in Boston because of this. The people there constantly misgender me and though I'm out as trans to my PCP as trans (she thinks I'm a trans man) I am not out as NB because she expressed to me one time that she didn't like "they" pronouns because she thinks it's gramatically incorrect (my pronouns are they). The mental health provider I saw there for 4 years for my anxiety disorder told me she felt like I should see someone else after I came out to her as trans because she didn't feel comfortable about it because she wasn't trained on trans issues. So I am effectively without a mental health provider with worsening anxiety. Another trans person I know got the go ahead for gender affirmation surgery and then, a month prior to the date the VA told them they couldn't do it. My doctors do not engage in Health at Every Size and are constantly bringing up my weight regardless of what I'm there for.
